Tildes Minecraft Survival Weekly Thread
Server host: tildes.nore.gg

The server operates on a soft whitelist. Anyone can log in and walk around, but you need a Tildes account to gain build access.
Server Changelog
- All registered players now have access to
/co inspect
. This command will allow you to see block changes from the last 14 days so that you can hopefully resolve land disputes without admin/moderator intervention. - There is currently an alpha version of a treasure hunt script (source) running on the server. Once every few days you'll see a
TREASURE HUNT!
message in chat and a 10 minute race for an elytra or netherite loot begins. - There is a page to see each player's time on the server in the last 30 days.
- I have disabled Phantoms entirely
I've been going through a really bad slump lately in my life, and haven't been on much. But I'm wondering if I could maybe build a "village" of sorts with a bunch of different kinds of starter bases, no particular theme. Just so new players can pick a home to base in, until they have enough materials and a plan for their own base they want to build. I just like to build small bases, and usually get burned out just thinking of larger builds. If anyone has any input on this, by all means let me hear it. I'm also open to others adding to this "village."
I'm thinking every building would be livable, even if it's the town's church or something. Not sure yet.
I think this sounds like a really cute idea!
I also love this idea and would be happy to contribute materials and/or builds. :)
I've been working on the very same thing! I found a valley that I think is just lovely (-225, -225ish) and got to work... I've only built a village hall thus far, but I've been looking forward to building some little cottages and a church.
I just found your town hall, and it looks lovely :) I really like the lookout!
Did you have plans for where roads/bridges go, or what theme you'd want for them? Any plans at all? I don't want to step on any toes.
The TildeTown town hall was completed recently [1] [2]
We also got a Nether hub upgrade! [1]
I get a ton of lag around town hall. Is it the maps? Not a huge deal I'm just curious.
Me, too. The issue predates the town hall. Not sure what the exact issue is. For me the performance problem goes away when I disable shaders.
Oh good to know. I'll try without shaders next time I'm in town.
I wonder if it has to do with the number of light sources being rendered around town.
Might be the beacons specifically? I know my particular shaders seem to stutter the most when multiple beacons are in view, though most of my testing has been anecdotal.
I'm not suggesting we remove beacons or light sources BTW, just trying to get to the bottom of the mystery. 🙂
I've had a streak of bad luck the last 24 hours. I've been building a castle in a snow biome and I realized one of my towers was built 1 block too narrow and had to redo the entire tower (and it was otherwise completely finished). While working on that, I got blown up by a creeper and when I ran back to get my stuff, a second creeper blew up and destroyed all of my armor (thankfully weapons/tools were looted by me). I still haven't setup a proper portal connection to this build area, and I'd lost my elytra, so I had to run through the nether to get to the main hub so I could get back in town.
I ended up falling into lava and lost EVERYTHING I had left. So I eventually got back to town and began the process of making/grabbing new armor/tools, got them all enchanted, and returned to the nether...where I promptly died in lava again. So I lost everything yet again.
Fortunately the server is now setup to make it easy to get fully regeared...assuming I don't die in yet another stupid accident along the way :) I will likely be taking some gear from the town center again, as most of my diamonds are at the castle and I'd rather not make another naked nether run just to get them. But next time I'm in town with those diamonds I'll be putting together some armor sets with random enchants to replace what I take.
Side note, if anyone would be willing to help me setup a nether roof portal for me to more quickly/safely travel between town and my castle it would be greatly appreciated!
Oof. Creepers man. I was having to lead a few foxes from a taiga biome so I could finish my Duck Hunt game, and a creeper blew them up when I was pretty close to being home. I had to go back thousands (maybe 6k?) of blocks to get another pair.
Do you know how difficult it is to lead multiple foxes past chickens and up hills, for thousands of blocks, without the leads breaking? Too hard.
But yeah, your situation would've probably made me rage quit, and I'm not usually a rage quitter. Screw creepers lol.
I definitely did rage quit...and then immediately sign back on :D
You can probably use the nether for long distance fox transport
Yeah, I didn't think of that at the time.
Please, hamster. Carry fire resistance from now on!
Yeah there are plenty in the piglin trading area. I'm particularly accident prone around lava so I always have a potion on my hot bar.
Well I'll certainly have lots of opportunities for that enchantment now that I'm without armor :D
Oh god I was mad because a creeper blew up some sheep I was taming but this pits that into perspective... that's such horrible luck! I had a fall into lava recently myself, so I feel your pain -- redoing my equipment was already such a pain, I think I would've snapped if I'd had to do it twice!
I'm not experienced enough to help with a roof portal but if you need a hand with anything else feel free to hit me up. idk where you are relative to me/town but I could help out with an iceway or something if that's doable.
This just breaks my heart to hear! Drop in your overworld coordinates and I’ll set you up a nether portal on the roof this weekend… and maybe drop off some potions to help with your lava problems :P
I put a sign up in a clearing I made that says something to the effect of "jambo intends to build here" - I have since unfortunately been unable to play, and I feel bad that I have potentially taken up space, so if that sign still exists please feel free to remove it and build there. There's a trap door that goes straight down to diamond digging level, so be careful around that, I can't remember if I put water in it or if it's a free fall one way ticket to the respawn screen :)
So exciting. I'm going to be back in town next week and can't wait to see the improvements.
Are there other big projects people are working on? I'm able to help on things again.

@teaearlgraycold Did you say there was a donation link to help with the server's funding? If so, could you link it here?

Ooh, I've been missing some MC. Can't wait to try this out!
Got a small semi-auto sniffer farm set up on my island at 498, -86. You are welcome to take any of the drops in the barrel, and feel free to breed them as well to get new sniffer eggs. I only ask that you don't hatch any new sniffers in my enclosure. I don't want my new friends to be crowded. :)
Oh also anyone is welcome to take a dip in my natural hot spring while the sniffers do their thing :D
I got really bored with my snow castle project and moved on (already!). I found a nice little savanna village and decided to turn that into a new town. I don't intend to compete with Tildestown or anything, I just thought it might be fun to create my own self-sustaining town where I build all the farms and infrastructure myself.
Feel free to check it out -- https://tildes.nore.gg/?worldname=world&mapname=surface&zoom=6&x=-1538&y=64&z=1149
I built a factory building that I'm using for bulk smelting/cooking and am currently working on a large storage building. Eventually I'll be connecting the two using rails and hopper carts so I can easily transfer raw/cooked materials to/from the factory.
And shout out to @ColdheartsTalon for building me the roof nether portal to make my trips to/from Tildestown much less deadly and painful!
Any interest in adding some datapacks? I've used some pretty minimal packs from vanillatweaks and voodoobeard in the past that enhance the game a bit without being too obnoxious. I can post a few of my favs when I'm back at my PC if anyone would like to hear more.
I've had a blast playing BTW. Getting spoiled by all the well made farms, ha. Last night I made it all the way to the end to raid some end cities for shulker shells and then chickened out and decided to just wait for SovietBen to finish the shulker farm. :)
Everyone has been so wholesome as well. Little things like greetings and sharing really warm my heart. Sorry to get all sappy, I just really appreciate a diverse group of people getting along in harmony, even if it is just in a block game.
I’m curious what datapacks you’re thinking of.
I can elaborate a bit. Here are some of the ones I've used, in order of least to most game-altering.
Minimal:
Little bit Extra:
I've got a few more that are even more "out there", but I wouldn't really consider them for a server that's trying to remain Vanilla (things like warp pads, or world gen structure alteration for example)
I like the mob heads. combine that with the armor statues book and its a great way to add life to builds
Fun tip about mob heads that not everyone may know: You can dispense them on to villagers and they render. GoodTimesWithScar made an entire village of "animal villagers" for one of his builds for Hermitcraft 7. :D
Well okay now we have to have it! lol
As a noob who's never really played minecraft much before this server, I like the ones you mention in your "minimal" setup since they don't seem particularly obtrusive, but particularly most of the options in "Crafting tweaks" are things that would really be nice. About half of them are things I as a noob assumed you could do and was disappointed you couldn't lol
I never would have guessed you are a new player. I happened across your base area a couple nights ago and it's lovely. It took me a long time to get halfway decent at building, so I assumed you must have been playing for years!
Yeah, some of the unpackables are goto choices for me. It's really nice to be able to unpack wool to string for example.
haha thanks for the compliments! I'm heavily following youtube tutorials for most of my builds on the surface, with maybe some block substitutions based on my aesthetic whims, so it definitely looks better than my skills if I built something from scratch designing it myself lol. The stuff built into the cliffside is less directly copying tutorials but still built based on my googling pictures of others' builds and squinting at them for a while. But even following tutorials is fun and I'm a learn-by-doing person, so I'm hoping to get better at building over time. I want a whole cliffside thing going!
I'd also like to add that, in addition to the crafting recipe tweaks, we could add the ability to blast sand to glass, and raw ore blocks to their smelted forms. Things of that nature.
Server is up! I’m away right now so can’t figure out what went wrong.
tysm for fixing it :D
A cool picture that i hadn't realized my texture pack does :)
Is anybody else unable to connect? I got booted off the server earlier tonight and ever since the server select screen says "cannot connect to server" for this one. I wanna know for sure whether it's something on my end or if the server is down for some reason.
No trouble connecting here, but it looks like there was an outage that was fixed about 30 minutes after your comment
yeah luckily I saw tea's message about it beingnback up, so I was able to still play a bit this evening.
Is it possible to play from Nintendo switch bedrock edition?
You’ll need to buy the Java edition
Not by default. There are two ways to get cross platform; either an interpreter on your end, or a program on the server.
I think you can rule out the interpreter on your end, since it does require a java account for translation. (at one point, microsoft was giving out free java accounts to players with bedrock, but I have no idea the status now)
The server-side thing is done with a custom mod, so it’s a possibility if the admin wants to implement it.
The only problem with these two is that the nintendo switch bedrock edition locks down the servers you can play on, so you have to do DNS trickery to make it work.
What’s the status on TNT dupers?
I'm curious what players think. There are two potential issues:
If there's tremendous lag we can roll back the change to enable TNT duping, but I'd want to set expectations that this is a possibility and any high-scale TNT duping flying machines could be rendered useless.
Destruction of the wrong things could happen, and is something I or a moderator could undo. But it could still be stressful for the victim (and work for the person fixing it).
I have enabled TNT duping as an experiment. Give it a shot! I need to see what happens with performance to decide if it stays enabled.
D'you hear that Tea? That faraway sound?
It's the sound of @SovietBen 'whoop'ing in the looming distance.... :P
Or the sound of a CPU in a Texas datacenter crying?
It's a datacenter in Texas, it was already crying from the heat and over-worked AC system!
Ooh, excellent! Goodbye bedrock nether ceiling, it’s been nice knowing ya!
Personally, I think making tnt dupers is a very fun late-game activity, so I’d be down. But we are using your server with your hardware, so if it’s causing lag (which it probably will), it’s your call. Speaking of hardware, if you don’t mind me asking, what’s the server running on? I have a spare oracle cloud compute instance I’d be happy to donate to the cause if you’d like.
It's running on a bloom.host VPS. I'd rather deal with a VPS that isn't a loss-leader cloud market entry maneuver.
Like I said, if no one's worried about the destructive powers of TNT dupers then we can try it out and roll back if it's too laggy.
Personally, I'm fine with sand/tnt dupers until Mojang (or you) adds something to the game for renewable sand.
Looks like I replied to the post, not the comment. My bad. Thanks for your reply!
(And again…) :P
Looks like it…
You can easily have multiple versions installed with both the official and most unofficial launchers.
If you haven't gotten back yet: from the mc launcher, click "installations" on the top bar > "new installation" > 1.20.1
After that, from the "play" tab, just make sure the "server version" is 1.20.1 before you click "play"
Oh yeah I figured it out! Thanks!
I have this game on Xbox, can I play on this server?
Sorry. You’ll need the Java Edition. It runs on pretty much any computer, though.
