Hello again all! It's been pretty quiet on the server lately. I hope everyone is doing well and has a good holiday weekend! Here are a few of my current and planned projects:
I recently finished my huge item sorting system under my house, I still need to assign items to a bunch of the chests, but it's fully functional! I also have two pet bats down there (Bruce & Wayne) so be careful not to harm them by accident if you do happen to visit (I accidentally killed Wayne once but luckily he respawned, IT IS THE SAME BAT AND NOT A DIFFERENT ONE! I WON'T HEAR IT STATED OTHERWISE!)
I also just finished building a Music Disc farm near Castle Frye Station. I wanted to build a music nook in my storage area so I'm looking to collect all the music discs. I felt bad grabbing so many from the Community Center, so I built this farm to compensate. Now I just need to go looking for a copy of Pigstep and Relic. I was also thinking the Music Disc farm could be further improved in appearance by making it look like a Radio Station or Record Shop; I did make a record out of wool for the roof, but otherwise it's just a farm out in the open currently.
I'm still planning to expand my nature trail across the island and making it a nature reserve, and I'm going to include some campsites (I have some armor stand ideas!). @teaearlgraycold also suggested including a birdwatching component so I'm going to include a bunch of parrots and, unless anyone has any objections, I'm going to expand on the small rest area building someone built at the north end, and make it into a place where you can also pick up a spyglass (and perhaps have some books with bird facts?)
A few small Christmas things I did recently are I added bells to Santa's sleigh, I added some Christmas banners to the community center as well as in my house, and I also put Christmas lights on my house and put up my own tree. I'm also thinking of making a Banner Center in town somewhere, a place more expansive than the station at the Community Center which will be dedicated to making banners. The idea is to have more storage for dyes/banners, give example banners for each of the available component patterns, and to have a place to store instructions on how to apply patterns for various designs used around town (for example the Santa banners I put up can be made with White Banner -> Red Lozenge -> Orange Creeper Charge -> White Fess -> Red Per Fess -> Green Bordure Indented -> Green Chief)
Progress on my picture of Jasper mentioned in the last thread has slowly begun. I've completed maybe 10%, but it's the easiest 10% so still a long way to go.
@Evie I revisited your museum to check out the new additions. I really love the lore! Slight bad news though, when I went down below to see if you added anything, a skeleton had spawned down there. Seems there must be a missed carpet block or something in there somewhere.
Another idea I want to do eventually is build a dinosaur safari park somewhere. I found a YouTube playlist showing how to build a whole bunch of different species. I'm thinking of an elevated rail system which brings you to various stops around an island with lecterns set up to provide info about them. I've been looking at the Dynmap for potential candidates, I scoped out one potential island today but it's too big and needed too much terraforming to look nice. I can promise our investors that John Hammond will not be involved with this endeavor.
I think I still want to build a glow squid farm at some point, but that has been put on the back burner since my glow ink needs have been met for the time being. I'm considering using the spot at 775, -40 where there appears to currently be a small tree farm? If that's what this is for I vote we repurpose that area if there isn't anything in the way below ground (I haven't looked). I already cleared out the patch of dirt that was at 720, -150 since we have the AFK tree farm now.
Edit: So this spot won't work for the squid farm, it seems someone has a canal under there, but I could put the Banner Center here. I might do that tomorrow.
And I want to try and help @ColdheartsTalon build a big cruise ship in the harbor of the Golf Course/Clubhouse at some point.
Happy Holidays!
Once I finish my sorting system, I'm down for a project. I can help with a dino safari - that sounds like fun. Or I can try to take on the glow squid farm (never built one... or even looked at one).
A dinosaur safari sounds amazing! Where is the island that needs terraforming, and what kind of terraforming does it need?
I was looking at the clump of islands at 600, 9700. When I first found it the area on dynamap hadn't been fully filled in yet so I had to fly out to scout, but it's bigger than I expected, it's a bit closer to other land than I'd like, and the mountains to the south are the wonky floaty kind that would require a lot of fixing. The biomes are a good mix there, but it's too much to terraform imo.
Maybe some of us can focus on filling out the dynmap so we can find a better spot?
I haven't looked over everything that's available so far, so that might not be necessary. But I'm also looking for a Trail Ruin so I'll probably go exploring some new areas anyway.
Decided to hop back on the other night and ended up dying in the middle of a cave. Nearly called it quits, but opted to just start over from scratch. Which didn't last very long because I settled on a new project idea and the thought of doing it without diamond tools didn't appeal to me at all.
So instead I am re-establishing myself in Tildestown and working on building a big submarine in the town docks. I built the sail (or fin, the big top bit with the periscope) last night so it should be visible if anyone wants to check it out. Still working on building the interior and will be adding some detail work to the exterior.
I've got absolutely nothing going on at work today (hooray holidays), so I might pop on later to continue on it.
Also whoever found the Elytra and assorted diamond items on a Piglin and left them in a barrel by my nether portal -- Thank you so much!
Been away for a bit binging other games.
I don't know if anyone finished the Trade Harbour station on the east edge of town while I was out but I guess that'll be the next thing to wrap up if not.
While I tried to make an in-game subway map, even with only 3-letter codes for each station the labels are too big to be practical. If someone else wants to pick that up and try to find a way to make it work they're welcome to, there are already some materials out there (and a portal to the nether roof just east of the kitten art for easier access, maybe that should have an ice road built).
Is there a reason using labelled flags wouldn't work? Based on the main map in Tildestown I was under the impression the labels for those are small enough
If you mean compared to the area map in town hall, that works because it's spread out across a large number of map tiles. I'm instead trying to cram about 20 labels into a single map in an organized pattern with tight spacing. Expanding to make it 2x2 would allow for plenty of space (for now) and still fit in each station, but then you couldn't easily carry a copy around with you which was one of my original goals.
ahhh that makes more sense, thanks!
What if you did colored blips, and just put a key near the subway map instead? Usually thats how maps are, anyway, with a key. Whereas real maps use numbers, like this:
https://valleyfairmall.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/VFM-map.png
We could just use unique colors, or color combos.
Combos of markers with a separate key could work, I was trying to maintain portability as much as possible so I wanted to avoid requiring two maps for it.
Maybe put the key on signs at each stop and then just have the map separate with the color codes.
There is a portal on the nether roof that ColdheartsTalon and I set up which connects over to my picture of Jasper. There isn't a path to it set up yet, but I can do that easy today.
Edit: And have you considered just using a sign next to each map for the station labels?
Having a separate sign with just the names was something I tried as well — that's the other partially-completed area just north of the subway picture — but identifying which station is where is still a problem, since you still need an identifier on the map to connect to a name. There's an (already out of date) map posted in TildeTown Central that shows the issue - it barely fits with a colored marker for the line and three-character code labels for each station and that's before adding another station or two to make the Birch Line accurate. The idea was to have a legend posted next to it with code = name for the entire system (e.g. TTC = TildeTown Central, CFR = Castle Frye).
Two-character codes might be a temporary fix but if the system grows much more I don't think that would necessarily fit either. Numbers with colored markers maybe, but that's more abstract and potentially renumbering existing stations to fit added stops in the middle depending on the numbering scheme could be awkward.
I'll try to think of a solution. I just finished making an ice road over to Snowy Art Space, just gotta put buttons on it to stop spawns. The beginning of the road is to the west of the auto piglen farm, follow the yellow wool.
Edit: I need to put up a sign, but the Snowy Art Space Ice Road is done.
Few new farms I added:
Panda Breeding: 345/1245
Squid Farm (lots of ink): -165/-765
Blue Orchid Farm (light blue dye): 610/200
edit: Glow Squid Farm: -429/-591
I knew I should've asked if anyone had a lot of black dye or squid ink before I built my submarine. I spent hours farming squid to make the gray concrete I used!
I literally just built it the last 2 days.
I AFK'd at the glow squid farm for a while today and never got any more glow ink. I have no idea how the farm works so I don't want to try and diagnose/fix it. Maybe I wasn't AFKing in the perfect spot?
The new glow squid farm? Go in the building, and down the ladder. The afk spot is the froglight at the base of the ladder.
There should be almost 20 stacks of glow in there already.
How do people feel about me removing the big stone tower in the middle of TildeTown? I don't think it gets much use and it covers the town on the map.
The airport tower? I think that would make sense to remove with easy access to fireworks nearby.
Alright, done.
I'm also thinking of removing the cherry leaf tower and adjacent slime farm. It looks like it's not even producing any slime.
Works for me, plus the slime farm under town is much more productive.
The deed is done
🙏 Thanks. It blocks my base on the 3d dynmap but I never got around to fielding the idea to remove it. Also opens up some space to build a castle.
Here's a shooting range gauntlet drop. 80 block bow and arrow bullseye :)

Happy New Year Tildetown!
I was wondering what all those popping sounds were while Talon and I were working on the Banner Center! Very nice!
The Banner Center is officially open for business! Come check it out at 667, -247, just around the corner from the Community Center! Thanks @ColdheartsTalon for all the hard work!
Have not been on the server as much of late due to work, but am trying to play a bit more now. Have decided on my next project: the Therapia Used Books and Coffee Shop. Located in Tildestown on Therapia Lane, next to the chess board and catty corner from the giant bee. May still be a bit before I start construction, but in the meantime, if anyone wants to help I have a box for donations of books if anyone has any or wants to write any to put in the store.
Edit: Location changed, going to put this at the lot where hamster's house was.
Just wanted to say that I recently destroyed my old house (east end of town), so there's a massive empty lot available for anyone who wants a space over there. I didn't do much to fill in the underground, which is a series of rooms and caves I'd been using for various things, but the surface is leveled out and ready for build.
I'm also now establishing a base in/under my submarine parked in the dock. Come check it out! Will update this post with screenshots later.
Love the look of your new base! I went ahead and claimed your house's lot to use for my coffee shop/book store, it will make a great spot!
Awesome! Look forward to stopping by for a coffee and a book. If you want some books to fill the store, let me know. Might be fun to cram a short story or two into a book.
I am accepting donations if you'd like to write anything! There's a chest in the lot you can leave them in
There once was a man from Nantucket...
The nether tunnel to the end nether portal has been renovated with prismarine. I did lose all my gear by going afk in it so I'll do some armor building today. I do love repetitive tasks like placing copious amounts of blocks so if anyone needs help with something similar, I'm game.
Hey all, the spot for the surface level Mining Depot input chest location has been reserved for a while now, so I went ahead and completed it. You can now drop off your unwanted quarried goods into the chests at 770, -112 instead of going all the way down there. I don't know how to make the shulker box input system, but I made it so there are three regular double chests you can use at the surface.
I found the Snout banner while trying to find another copy of Pigstep (which I failed at), and I also found an Enchanted Apple so I was able to make the Thing banner. Now that we have all the banner patterns I started looking for a place to build a banner center and I found someone has already made one, or started anyway, it doesn't seem finished. I hadn't noticed this building before so I'm not sure if it's new or an old project. Anybody know whose work this is at 668, -242?
I also found one Trail Ruin but didn't have luck finding Relic yet either. :/
Edit: I forgot to mention, the existing building for the banner center isn't big enough for what I had in mind. I want to be able to display a banner for each pattern with the patterns' names on signs beneath them.
Edit 2: @ColdheartsTalon and I got a lot of work done on the Banner Center. Still a bit more to do, but it's looking nice! We added a basement to the existing banner building.
lol, I didn't realize that an enchanted apple is how to make the thing banner. I've got 3 of them sitting in inventory in my house
