It was dense and awesome. :)
In light of the effort, the rule of the hunt was was: don't break things. In other words, no destroying foliage / plants to look for eggs.

Happily, he quickly calmed down once you reassured him and once we fixed it.

So the extra whispers confirming that sort of stuff are really nice

Correct. We had frequent talks about how to respect other people's builds. They spent a lot of time watching me building, as well as my interactions with others.
Luckily, both of my kiddos are rule followers and have always been able to respect the builds of others. There was one minor slip-up early on (Bob in the Easter egg hunt in S1), but the kids learned.

There's room to make minor incremental improvements:
- routing Prismarine Crystals from the chests under the kill chamber to the Sea Lantern crafter,
- building overflow mechanisms into the intake. I suspect Prismarine Shards will eventually clog everything. Also, I'm amused by the thought of yeeting the shards over the edge to perpetually rain upon the guardians below. Something of a vast payback for the times they killed me during the early stages of the build.
However, for the moment, this is good enough for me.
Find it by heading north out of the nether hub (nice job, Talon) and following the sea lanterns (nice job on the road, Creesch). It will be obvious.

Correct - they're on the server - ages 8 and 10.
They roam around town and other safe areas, although the older (Bunny) is a bit more comfortable exploring solo.
In general, they are 1) in awe at what people are doing, 2) overjoyed to be on the server, 3) aware of the privilege of participating. "Dad, come look at this" or "Look at what I found!!" are constant refrains.
They are the servers biggest fans.
They watched (and rewatched) the broadcast done by @Teaearlgraycold of the raid in the ancient city. They were excited/scared/thrilled to be part of the Ender Dragon fight (they told all their friends). They constantly talk about what @Noox would think about various animals / pets.
They're also intensely curious. Today, the younger (Bob) was just watching @ColdHeartsTalon as they worked on the nether hub. Talon was kind enough to involve him in the build. @Creesch has also benefited from Bob's supervision and also involved him. Thank you both for the kindness.
I know that kids can be a lot, but I truly appreciate the kindness, tolerance, and patience. Also, they've been on the server since S1, but it feels like they're interacting with more folks this season.
Much love to this community.

I like figuring things out. How the redstone signal works (or doesn't) in this case is like a puzzle. I will likely wind up using your spacing, but wanted to try "fixing" the classic design first.
Also, good to know about the golem collision. I would have wondered about that once I ramped up the number of the little gremlins in the machine.

So, I've built a guardian xp farm using ianxofours design.
It's AWESOME when it works. Zero to 30 levels in a minute.
Sadly, it breaks when someone is in the nether. As you may imagine, that's very far from ideal.
I've tried two different types of chunk loaders: a hopper based item loader and a minecart-based loader (not gonna link - there's a bazillion). Based on what I've read, a hopper-based loader would be best, because they're more resilient to server restarts. Sadly, neither of them works.
Emblematic of my growing desperation, I asking different LLMs about this. One suggested possible changes to the server configuration:
- Option 1: In paper-world-defaults.yml or paper.yml: spawn-limits: monsters: 100
- Option 2: In paper-world-defaults.yml or paper.yml: mob-spawning: per-player-mob-spawns: false
- Option 3: possible issue with hard-despawn-range being less than 128. If < 128, then raise it to 128.
- Option 4: "If you are the admin or can talk to them, there is a specific Paper plugin called Otherside. It was built specifically to fix this exact problem. It gives mobs a "grace period" (usually 20 seconds) after they go through a portal where they are immune to despawning, giving your farm time to kill them."
- Option 5: In paper-world-defaults.yml, look for portal-search-radius. If this is too low, the Guardians might get "stuck" searching for a portal, giving the despawn timer time to catch them.
I don't know if any of these are hallucinations or legitimate solutions.
If i can't get this to work, I may start over and try this farm: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0XDeqQ30a0 it will just take longer to get functional.
