Added decorative signage to the potions diner: https://imgur.com/a/UTcaVzJ
Why did I call it "The Lonely Diamond Diner"? As I was moving the previous builders stuff out of the abandoned shell, I noticed that the player had a single diamond in their chest. That diamond is the one that is currently on display in the item frame in the diner. I decided to display it as kind of a first dollar earned kind of thing for the diner
Edit: I added a book on a lectern outside the diner to explain the server lore of the building. I also mentioned that it has been converted to the potion brewing lab, to potentially help slightly with discoverability.
Already said it in game, but it looks really neat and I like the lore.
In honor of the Lonely Diamond Diner I decided to do a little bit of a promotional action in game. Just saying, some chests around town might have extra content.
I'll add a bartender and a few guests to the diner soon!
Finished adding some patrons to the diner!
I like them. If the current interior decorations were a hindrance, feel free to change them. I am personally not a fan of how the tables and chairs turned out, but I did not have a different idea and wanted to keep the project moving forward
I think the interior is great. It's cozy.
I noticed that the colored wool farm was running low on a few colors, and upon investigating found that the dispensers were completely out of shears. I refilled them, but it may take a while for the chests to restock.
<3
I noticed a few other stores also running empty last week and have been trying to restock them here and there. Overall, I feel like a few people who put in a lot of work to keep them filled have been less active. This means that the rest of us need to step up and be a bit better here.
So consider this my call to arms for everyone to stand AFK at farms a bit more and check if they need maintenance. Don't just grab the last item of something and run off ;)
Would chunk loaders be of any use for the afk farms that don't require player vicinity?
I dont think chunkloaders are really the answer. They will just cause server resources to constantly be allocated to those farms, regardless if its needed or not (ie, doesnt detect if the farm is stocked or not).
It really should just be as simple as, if the farm is low on supplies and you notice, do something about it. Or tell @j0hn1215, hes good at afk
We should be able to make some simple timed chunk loaders with the new 1.21.3 enderpearl mechanics.
I honestly don't know. I'll leave that to people more in the know about such mechanics to answer that.
Some of it is also simple manual stuff where it is nice if people who use it last or who notice stuff runs low refill things. For example, the dye repository at @eyechoirs place was running out of red and yellow dyes. These are extremely easy to refill with bone meal as the flowers for it our just outside the door.
Edit:
Oh, another example of this is replacing shears in dispensers like mendanbar mentioned. There are quite a few farms that use these up.
I was thinking that the wool farm was a bit slow...
I'd love to check on the sheep for it, but I have no idea where the guts of the farm are.
They are above the collection area, near the base of Positive's ship at the back. There's a small granite staircase that leads around to a hole in the side of a hill. TBH I never would have found it without freecam. :D
sorry about the hidden guts! i built the farm to get the wool for the pirate ship sails, and then added the collection mechanism to be convenient for the village.
No need to apologize! It was a snap to refill once I found the sheep, and freecam made finding them trivial. Many thanks for making it available in the first place. I've needed colored carpet or wool for most of my builds, so it has been a huge time saver. :)
Another day, another job done. Last night I added armor stands to The Spawned Inn. The place feels much more alive now!
Thank you so much for this, it feels lived-in so much more now!! I do still want to add a farmer villager behind the counter, which could help newbies trade a few crops for emeralds or food starting out.
I'm also still not in love with the nether roof portal location. I want it to be something that's quick to run to when you die and re-spawn at spawn, but I don't love that it's kinda the first thing a new player might see, and I don't want nether roof travel to be the default mode of travel for newbies (despite the amazing nether roof portal carpet map design, of course).
@mendanbar I managed to get 30min of being the only one on the server and still there was no ghast spawns. Not entirely sure what is wrong with the spawner, but I am going to build a single layer in a location that looks promising to see if I get better results
So just to eliminate spawning rules as a problem, I loaded up the old 1.20.4 tildes server world in 1.21 to see if my farm still works. Indeed it does. It's slow, but I was getting ghast spawns at least every ~30 seconds. I've included a picture of the farm and also a shot of F3 as I'm watching it work. You can see that it's built in almost identical conditions to yours, and the design is also nearly the same. So my only conclusion is that the location of your farm is cursed. :D
https://ibb.co/Qfyq4q1
https://ibb.co/jrzn3n6
Hopefully building in a different place will give you better results.
I built one layer in a new location, and it is working. It is not that fast so I will add more layers later to increase efficiency. The first one may have just been too close to spawn that something else was loaded
Yeah, seems like my location is cursed
And now for a seperate comment with screenshots as to not distract from my server navigation PSA.
BTW, this link needs to be fixed. ;)
Oh uh, let me see if I can figure out which one is missing there :)
Edit: Fixed!
That's a great shot of your Mushroom lookout! I came over to see it the other day, and it has quite an amazing view.
It does! :) If you haven't already, the cellar actually also has a very neat view from the window I put in. When you are there you should also check out the ... cellar of the cellar. It prototypes a few of the things we discussed ;)
Sorry whoever you were, if you had plans to eventually come back and continue the build. It was just so close to town I felt compelled to do something with it. Obviously, if you do come back someday, it's yours to change as you see fit.
The ghast farm is done and working. It is located at 343, 1575 on the Nether roof. It is also added to the public farms book. I put a sign at the farm both of the original designer and that I built it. I think that putting a sign of the designer and whoever on the server built it should be standard for our communal farms. I have seen others on the server doing that as well. The signage just allows for others to reach out to the Tildes builder or look up the original tutorial if the farm breaks.
Now that I have ghast tears, the potion lab is stocked with ingredients for all potions, but turtle master. I am hoping to get time in the next day or two to add a book on a lectern for instructions on usage and maintenance of the brewing lab. I also want to decorate the diner some more, add storage for brewing ingredients, and maybe add in a small netherwart farm for convenience. The discoverability of the potion lab is a bit on the low side, being in the basement of the diner. However, I am comfortable with the low discoverability since the potions would be less of a thing that new players would need to find easily. Also, having it viewable from the red line increases awareness. Currently, to learn about the potion lab it is on the town message board, in the communal farms book, signs on the building, and seen from the red line of the metro. If anyone has thoughts on the discoverability, I am open to feedback
The location has been added to dynmap as well :)
If no one has any objections, I'm going to use this terralith generated structure as the location for the winter/Christmas Ice Boat Race. I think it will be cool to have a water elevator that brings you up through the center of the tower and then race down the spiral. It looks cool at night too since apparently soul lanterns were generated inside the structure. It even already has an elf with a workshop.
@hamstergeddon Holy shit I just took a ride on your new "secret" railway and it is a long boy! Where are you connecting it to? I feel like you mentioned it but I forgot. Currently it seems to stop near the ice road but I feel like it is going to be further out maybe?
I have no idea, tbh! I just started building it because I wanted to build somewhere vaguely east of town and kept running into other people's builds, so I just kept digging and putting down track.
Well, I enjoyed the ride already :D
New computer, new wallpaper!
There has been some talk recently about navigation around the server. Some of it is adressed by more signs around and marking things like the transport hub. But, I also want to atract some more attention to the server dynmap, specifically some of its functionality people might not be familiar with.
Hopefully that is useful for some people :)
That dynmap right-side sliding menu is well hidden.
@teaearlgraycold If we wanted to change this behavior, dynmap has an option to default to a "pinned" sidebar. In
/plugins/dynmap/configuration.txt
, search forsidebaropened
and change the value topinned
Edit: Just checked the default config, and wanted to note that the
sidebaropened
line is commented by default, so you'll need to remove the#
at the beginning of the line as well.@IsildursBane I decided to check out your docks this evening, and ran into these seedy characters. I went to introduce myself and they were quite rude... grunting and aiming their weapons at me. The docks are easily A+, but I give the clientele a B- at best.
Pirates! 🦜
I vaguely recall using a mod many years ago on some long-forgotten server that let me do some clever things with my inventory and I can't recall what it was. It had buttons to auto-sort/organize my inventory and it even went so far as to replace depleted items in my hotbar with items from the inventory. So like if you're placing dirt and you "run out" it'll replace it with another stack from your inventory so you don't have to keep swapping stacks onto the hotbar.
Anyone have any ideas of mod that might have been, or if that functionality is even possible client-side?

Do not listen to the liars...
Are YOU the liar?
Okay
I just finished making another allay xp farm like the one in my volcano. This one is underneath the Enchanting Shaq in town. If you only need 30-50 levels it's faster than going all the way to the enderman or guardian farms; If you needed to enchant an entire suit of armor those farms would be more suitable. I also made it viewable along the rail line.
I also (with a bit of help from @creesch) tidied up the area out front of the villager trading hall.
I appreciate that you made it viewable from the metro line. I feel like the red line is gradually getting more interesting which has been a cool progression to see
Yesterday, after talking about it with various people, I build a greenhouse around the village farm in front of the diner.
Overall I think it turned out well, but I also feel it could be improved with some details maybe. This build specifically made me wish more solid blocks have slabs, walls, stairs, etc. also why doors can't snap to glass panes and walls is also one of those highly annoying mysteries to me...
Anyway, if someone is around and sees some room for improvement feel free to do so. I don't claim ownership over the build.
Tea, would it be possible/worthwhile to add an AFK plugin to indicate when players are AFK? It is not something necessary since we normally communicate well or can tell when someone is AFK. However, it might be a nice quality of life improvement if we added one.
Here is a quick search of one that I found: https://www.spigotmc.org/resources/afk.35065/
What, so you more easily spook me when I'm AFK!?
Also, is there a setting for NEAR keyboard? I'm often folding laundry or working near my computer.
Exactly, I want others to have that opportunity.
In all seriousness, it is not something I feel like we need to have this. So if you have a genuine concern with it, I am fine with us doing it. To me, it just seems like something that could be a nice QoL improvement
I actually like the idea! I also like that other people can mark you as AFK, because I will forget a lot...
I searched briefly on one plugin that would appear to work as a starting point, but I did like that feature. I think other plugins may automatically tag people if they stand still after a certain time or once they start moving again. However, I did not find any plugins that did that in my brief search that were still up to date (I think I looked at a grand total of three plugins)
FYI, I've been using the Remote player waypoints for Xaero's Map mod for this and it works really well. I ended up turning off a lot of the other features because I found the markers distracting in game.
Edit: here's what it looks like in game
That looks really great and would be useful. Definitely could be an option that I personally run. However, I was more thinking it would be useful to have something on the server side, so that everyone does not have to install a mod. Of course, if running an AFK indicator puts too much strain on the server, than running this clientside would be nice
I definitely agree. I wasn't really able to find anything too promising when I went looking for server side AFK indicators, but I would be in favor of that approach as well.
Vanilla tweaks has and AFK datapack (under "informative"), but I'm unsure how that would play with our already existing custom name aliases. I would prefer if it added the AFK text rather than doing a color change.
Now that the haunted house is finished, I'm reconsidering doing the ice boat racetrack idea I wanted to do from before. I think it will be cool to build a winter/Christmas themed track. I'm thinking there could be a section that passes through Santa's workshop, I could recreate Santa's sleigh from last server, maybe I could use snowmen is some clever fashion. I wouldn't mind making it a collaborative effort if anyone else has ideas as well. I'm gonna start looking for a suitable area to build soon. (East of spawn, and near the witch farm both seem suitable).
I also still want to build the shopping mall eventually.....someday soon.
Edit: Oh, and if anyone wants to represent any other winter holidays, we can certainly do that as well.
Just as a slightly related note, we do have an ice road/route I made a while ago. It has on reststop along the way with a villager.
It might be fun to create more winter wonderland things along the way?
The speed beacon at town was enabled again. Previously, it was turned off because people (including me) found it jarring to have the forced FOV perspective change. So....dunno who enabled it, but sorry, disabled it again ;)
There isn't a setting to disable FOV zoom?
I don't mind it in other situation, overal people found it unpleasant last time it was enabled. So it was disabled.
That was me, I find Haste 2 to be problematic in town. Makes minor adjustments to things difficult and I don't think anyone is doing massive digs near town currently. We could just disable that beacon if there isn't another option.
You didn't disable haste though? Only seem to have enabled speed. Though I agree that hase can also a bit annoying. But I also think a few mining operations and the stone farm sort of depends on it.
Edit:
Okay we now have
Tea suggested we could also do something with levers and pistons to block off beacons temporarily for things like builds.
Oops, thought I had switched it correctly. Haste 1 will probably be fine!
Busy assembling my new computer now that the last of the parts arrived yesterday. It's been a while since I last built one, I'd forgotten how annoying cable management can be. I'm hoping to be back online by tonight, assuming no disasters of course. Wish me luck!
Good luck! Also yes, cable management is annyoing.
Well, the hard part is done! All the hardware is put together and it started right up! Installing Mint now, should be ready to play again soonish!
Dunno what launcher you are planning to use btw. But recently I did play around with linux on my old surface go and saw that prism launcher is available for linux in various flavors.
The Ubuntu custom repo instructions had some issues for me so I ended up going for the appimage flavor. Though the flatpak one would likely also have worked but I had not set that up.
Official launcher gang
Official launcher is solid, why bother exploring others? Although I do miss the OG launcher that had no picture and just displayed patch notes
Because you won't know what you are missing out on if you don't? I mean it isn't mandatory but if you never explore anything new you will never learn or pick up new stuff ;)
Anyway, a more real answer is that using a custom launcher makes it much easier to handle a variety of things:
All very valid points, that honestly I just haven't cared about personally. Also, my comment was more joking, but I appreciate the thoughtful response. I run very few mods, with I think I am now running a grand total of 2 (minihud which I got for horse stats but use it occasionally for other things) and freecam which I installed for debugging the cursed ghast farm spot. I guess also mod menu, but that was for debugging freecam. I know I should probably run more performance boosting mods, but I never bothered to learn what was actually best when optifine was no longer the de facto standard. However, the official launcher is super frustrating on Fedora, so I may actually explore the world of third party launchers soon
Fair enough :)
Okay, just in case you decide to look into that stuff I am going to do a bit of an info dump.
Performance mods you might want
As a note, all of these are also part of modpacks like Fabulously Optimized but I personally don't like using modpacks as those do a lot more and also change default settings.
Setting stuff up in Prism Launcher
Linux installation
There are a variety of ways to download Prism Launcher on Linux.
The flatpak option is probably the most straightforward if your distro comes with it however gravy had issues clicking on links in chat and I suspect that might be due to flatpak.
There is also an AppImage binary offered, which is what I used on my old surface go tablet and works pretty good.
You simply download the AppImage binary, move it to your location of choice, make it executable and run it. On linux you can make something executable in the terminal with
chmod +x fileName
.Further down there are instructions per distro as well to use more traditional package managers, I had some mixed results with the Ubuntu instructions. So my personal recommendation is using the AppImage binary.
Setting up minecraft and mods in Prism Launcher
I would also add that even if you don't care about mods, it can be advantageous to switch to a modloader such as fabric/quilt to eke out some extra performance from your PC. I say eke, but really the difference can be sometimes quite significant (I've seen double digit changes in FPS, for example).
A custom launcher can make the process of setting up a fabric/quilt instance trivial.
I've used gdlauncher on Linux with good results too. Though they recently did a rewrite and I can't speak to that version on Linux. I would be willing to bet it works fine though based on their past releases.
I have been meaning to check out gdlauncher. But it looks like they only support curseforge, not modrinth which I do prefer.
Good to have options though, also on Linux :)
The new version (carbon) does support modrinth. I think it may default to curse, though. Next time I'm in front of my gaming PC I'll take a deeper dive and post an update.
So I just had a chance to check. GDLauncher Carbon (latest version) does have an appimage version for linux, and it does support Modrinth pretty extensively. Modpacks can be sourced directly from Modrinth. Standalone mods are a little fuzzier. It sort of looks like the mod search is unified, and it defaults to curse for downloads. But once a mod is installed, you can use a menu (that's sort of hidden TBH) to switch the source if it is available on Modrinth.
Side note on why I chose GDlauncher
I play a lot of Minecraft with my nephews and kids, and GDlauncher is just an easier interface for us all to work with. It auto-manages the java installs, and I find the interface easier to understand for kids. Definitely not knocking Prism here though. I like the idea of it being open source, and would probably more seriously consider it if it were just me using it. I will say that though GDLauncher is closed source, the devs are a great bunch of people that are hyper focused on providing the best experience they can to users. (I was not paid to say this, ha).Hrm, seems like I am sticking to prism then. I can just choose where to download individual mods from and I don't like using modpacks.
I do see your reasoning btw
Yep, definitely not for everyone, which is why I felt the need for the disclaimer. It's been great for my use though. :)
I only knew that options were available on Linux, I hadn't done any research yet. I'll check out Prism first.
To be honest, the flathub option is probably the best option for most people. I did a quick search and it seems like it is already part of your mint install, so I would just get that option first and give it a go :)
edit: https://flathub.org/apps/org.prismlauncher.PrismLauncher
I just hit the install button in the software manager, but there is a button labeled "Flatpak (Flathub)" as well. What's the difference?
Keep missing you in game, if you don't want to use beta versions of mods then Iris 1.7.3 and DH 2.1.2-a work well together.
You can also use the latest versions of both but then you need to run beta versions of Iris. The latest beta of iris just gave me issues with shadows in shader.
@j0hn1215 the road is done!
@teaearlgraycold no detour anymore!
@GravySleeve did you remove the fireworks maintaince access? Or is there another new one?
I did remove it, it was always intended to be temporary. I put a trapdoor directly behind the shop and intend to make it a bit nicer down there.
Ah, must have overlooked the trapdoor.
Has anyone else tried AI Minecraft? I did, and it's quite strange. Like being in a dream (and not necessarily a good one).
It's pretty rough but fun and an interesting view into the future of technology. The creators highlighted that this technology could be used to create new types of games controlled in ways other than traditional buttons and joysticks. They trained the AI to control the image with recorded button inputs. But they could have trained the AI to control the image with with text, or a spoken voice. I'm imagining a holodeck-like experience.
"Computer, delete character" 😂
I kid, but it is very interesting. I've seen some other videos that attach ChatGPT to a "helper" character in game, and I think that might be interesting to explore for mods like Minecolonies.
Oh, giving villagers "personalities" through an llm would be interesting as well. The fact that the output is sometimes rubish doesn't really matter in this context.
Ha, yeah imagine a villager acting erratically, and then coming to the conclusion that they just had a bad day. 😂
It is like being in a fever dream. I put down a wooden block that occupied my entire view. When I turned around the entire landscape changed to wooden buildings.
Having the inventory open is trippy as well as it is constantly shifting around what it shows you dragging around.
Same! I placed a bunch of wood blocks and it decided to autofill a village from that as I was turning around. Wild. I also had a lot of trouble just selecting a certain hotbar slot, as it kept switching on me. Breaking blocks was also very weirdly inconsistent. Sometime it would instabreak like in creative and other times take ages. I ended up actually locking it up as well. At least it wouldn't accept any input anymore. I'm glad they included a download link, it's fun to rewatch.
