This is Aspyr's business model essentially, it seems. Do a half assed job porting an old star wars game to modern systems, market them a bunch, and then put in the bare minimum to fix issues after launch. They did the same thing with the Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy and KOTOR 2 launches on Switch, and in the case of the latter, even cancelled the release of a DLC that was promised in pre-order packages.
As soon as I saw this game was being released by Aspyr, I knew to stay away.
For PC at least, you can still get the originals on Steam (Battlefront 1, Battlefront 2) and GOG (Battlefront 1, Battlefront 2) for the time being.
I will never understand changes like this. Isn't it less work to just leave the original as-is? It's like they ruined it on purpose. I almost wouldn't be surprised if this was the product of a story in JIRA that said "As a user, I want the loading screen sound effects to be shittier".
Well... What did we expect, truly? It is known that big studios don't (or maybe actually even can't) care about such things anymore. Have a look at GTA trilogy's Definitive edition and what is missing, how they didn't clearly do quality check on many things (look up some videos). Or Starfield and how many people perceive it after a bit of gameplay (not their first thoughts).
There are exceptions, of course. But behemots are going to slowly die IMHO. And new ones will arise.
It really doesn't surprise me that EA would forget (or deliberately not) mention credits for a used mod. I guess credits will roll for at least 10 minutes and every thinkable employee from the company and from every company that at least remotely got involved will be clearly stated there...
An update to this:
Star Wars: Battlefront Modder Finds Further Evidence Classic Collection Uses Their Mod Despite Aspyr Promising It Wouldn’t

I've never had excitement turn to disappointment so quickly in my life. All they had to do was rerelease the games exactly as they were, with new servers and online functionality.
It's a case where any PC modder would have done a better job.
I did dipped my toe into the missing scene for BFII before, mostly to try out the BFIII stuff. It has to be one the most simplest game to mod.
Do you have any suggestions for mods?
Edit: Fixed by our Tildes curator.
Maybe I missed it, but the article does not say what the mod in question is. Honestly shocking and makes me wonder how this article could be written so thoughtlessly.
https://www.ign.com/articles/eagle-eyed-modders-spot-something-off-with-the-star-wars-battlefront-classic-collection-trailer-and-asajj-ventress-holds-the-key - this article says it’s a character reskin.
Yeah, I noticed that too, but I hadn't read the link in the article.
@mycketforvirrad would it be possible to change the article to the one @teaearlgraycold linked instead? I think they cover the same thing.
Sorted!
thank you for your hard work :) much appreciated!
