How it started.
How it's going.
Gorgeous! The new copper blocks add so much detail
Unfortunately, I think I'm going to have to donate my base to the community, as I can't see myself being on long enough to finish it. It's nestled into the upper cliff up on the mountain next to the big ship. Also you can have my things. I have too much irl stuff going on.
I hope your irl stuff gets better, friend
Yours is the place with the rainbow tree, yeah? That build is gorgeous. I vote we keep it 100% intact.
Yes, I specifically picked the spot where the biomes blended to get the leaves to be multicolored :) if it is kept intact, I may come finish it when I get time. I just didn't want to leave it to be an eyesore.
I vote we keep it intact then :) Because it isn't an eyesore anyway, if anything it is unfinished potential but even that is underselling that it is already pretty in the state it currently is in.
There is no map expansion this week. The dynmap images take up a lot of space. So we can't afford to expand the dynmap beyond its current radius. It'll remain at a 10,000 block square.
I think it's fun idea having unmapped lands to explore beyond where most people live.
Treasure Planet?
I love how this nether roof mapping project is turning out. What a great idea.
Thank you so much! I was going to make a post today to gauge reactions, as I'm always nervous about building right up against other's builds.
I've always thought the nether roof was great for travel, but a blind, barren place. I was hoping to create more of a sense of place, and explicitly show the scale that at which you're traveling when you're up there. It does, however, require a butt-ton of wool. I was planning on building the 4 maps closest to spawn - I'm currently working on #2 of 4.
Yeah I 100% love this effort. It's very neat to see our stylized portals mixed in with a representation of the real terrain surrounding their destinations. It's also way less laggy than having something like a map wall. A+ :D
Also side note: I can say 100% for certain that carpet duping works just fine on this server. So do with that what you will.
Also side side note: Apparently moss carpet can NOT be duped like normal carpet (at least not in the way that I tried). Very strange seeing as how it behaves exactly like regular carpet in every other way.
I love the looks of it! My only small gripe is that finding the right direction based on the floor markers is slightly more difficult now.
However, that is probably that can be solved quite easily as well by using different markers for those that now use carpet.
We could do like the guardian farm trail, make guidestones instead of carpet lines. I think I'll do this for my own once I'm able to get online later.
Guidestones would also be beneficial in that we could do carpet on top of the guidestones, to not interrupt the beauty that is the dynamap
Just brainstorming here, but what about overhead guidestones? That might be interesting because the foot path could still be clear.
Was literally about to suggest the same - overhead would be pretty cool - could use walls or fences
Reminder all, to respond to the poll if you haven't already - where should the PVP arena be located? I'll close the results tomorrow and set up a drop off point for materials.
Currently at a three way tie with three votes each and the poll is almost finished! Who will cast the deciding vote!?
Looks like a few more people voted since then... and the winner is Steppe/Alpine Highlands! Not what I voted for, but the people have spoken and it is a good choice nonetheless. I will set up a drop off point at (200, 1000) for the materials. I already got all the redstone (if I remember correctly it was tman who dropped it off), but here's what remains to be collected. I'll strike through the items as people contribute them.
81 stacks of redstone dustAlso, now that we know the biome, I've been thinking about what building materials to use. I think stone/stone bricks would be simple and elegant for most stuff. But maybe dirt for the arena floor? Spruce wood as an auxiliary building material and for stuff like signs/fences? Also what should the team colors be? Maybe yellow and red or pink? Taking suggestions.
For the iron, there should be plenty in the iron farm for you to grab. For the leather, we may want to get a piglin bartering farm setup for that. I am working on building a library in my house and realizing how slow going leather is using cows, so you should go with bartering
Yeah fully agree. You could probably get an ad hoc bartering setup going in just a few minutes and outpace any cow farm. Obviously a proper bartering farm would be preferable, but the logistics of those can quickly get overwhelming.
There's the leather / stake farm at the community farm already setup if you didn't know already, might help you get some leather faster too!
Yeah, leather is a pain in the ass. I managed to get everything else still open today. But leather would take a lot of time.
I know @ColdheartsTalon wanted to build a better barter farm this time around, is that still the plan sir?
It is. I've been away from home for the past week or so. I brought my laptop, but forgot the powercord so I haven't been able to play. I might be able to start on the piglin bartering setup next week.
At the exact dropoff coordinates, there was nothing yet.
I saw some chests further down in the middle of the arena but didn't want to assume. So I just placed a bunch of chests at exactly 200, 1000 ;)
Edit, updated list after doing some AFK stuff today
80 shulker boxes✅81 stacks of redstone dust✅ accidentally doubled that for you as strikethrough didn't copy over when making this list :P23 stacks of iron✅60 stacks of cobblestone✅ (actually more than double that as someone else seems to have delivered them)23 stacks of stone✅ (Also more than double that)24 stacks of wood✅ 24 stacks of birch logs.32 stacks of slime balls✅7 stacks of string✅6 stacks of nether quartz✅5 stacks of glowstone dust✅1 stack of obsidian✅Awesome! That went quicker than expected. Just intalled Litematica and started construction. So begins the slog.
Use middle click! I find it oddly rhythmic.
Not sure when you need the leather, that's still missing. @Mendanbar, basic bartering is easy to set up you said?
I won't need it for a while - it's basically for all the armor that will be used during gameplay, so not until the build is basically done. No rush on setting up bartering.
Good to know :) I set up a bartering system on the roof but, I am having trouble getting piglets to spawn. I think I am too close to the gold farm, so I will be moving everything elsewhere later today.
I tried for a few minutes last night to spawn some with no luck. I think you'd have better chances if you can find a crimson forest biome to build the spawning platform in.
Yup, is what I am planning to do. Thanks for having a look though!
Oh, another hint that might be useful in wrangling: Piglins run away from soul torches/lanterns/campfires, and run toward gold dropped on the ground. So once you get them to spawn it should be fairly easy to get them to do what you want.
Didn't know about the light sources, that is good to know. I knew about the gold :)
Anyway, everything is set up for take two https://www.creesch.com/dump/img/img_66c7698eaa94c.jpg
edit: lol, I managed to get hoglins to spawn on a frequent basis. This should mean that at some point piglins should also spawn, as the conditions are basically the same (Except for light level). So far no piglins though.
With some help of Gravy to get them to spawn it finally works. It really is insane how much it yields, the screenshot is from an overflow chest I had to add.
Screenshot of the entire thing
Oh and location, it is on dynmap as well: [name:"Barter station", x:43, y:128, z:-721, dim:minecraft:the_nether]
I'm thinking the leather is probably just for the armor to be used in the PvP fights.
Yeah speedrunners set them up all the time to get quick pearls, and you can even go slightly more fancy with a couple of droppers pointing into a space where you've crammed some piglins. I've used a variant of this design to get quick drops in the past. Disclaimer again, that this isn't a design I would use for scale, but it's plenty to grab a chest each of the various drops. Probably makes the most sense to just build it on the roof near the gold farm for easy access.
Thanks, seem straightforward enough to build. How do you get piglins on the rough though? Edit: Place nether blocks and they'll spawn it seems?
Off-topic feel free to ignore: Not quite sure what it is about these minecraft videos but the way my mind works time seems to slow down watching them.I just don't get why these things need to be a 10 minute videos other than ad revenue... This could mostly be a schematic and a few screenshots..... This could have been a 1 minute video.
Yep, I think most non-magma blocks will work for spawning in nether wastes and crimson forests. I think they have light level requirements as well?
Hah, yeah MineTheFab is especially meandering in his explanation. I honestly like it because he sometimes gives some hints to his thinking process, and I find that helps me adapt designs to my needs. His newer stuff is a bit more streamlined as well.
Also, related to this video in particular, you can probably mostly ignore the item sorting if you just need quick drops. IIRC I just made a huge stack of chests and had the hoppers feed them unfiltered. If you remove the sorting the design is super quick and easy.
I just went ahead and build this on the roof, although I just realized I build it in the wrong delta, so I'll be tearing it down and rebuilding it.
Edit, might first check how close another biome is and see if I can lure them to my contraption from there.
edit2: This is now a thing, though I wonder if it is too close to the gold farm for new piglins to spawn. Which also made me wonder if I can't somehow extract a few from there... not sure how that would work though.
Edit3: nvm the gold farm are zombies
Also forgot to mention that the hard part about spawning the piglins is preventing ghast spawns IIRC. Ghasts have an annoying habit of appearing when you don't want them to.
Noted, will be aware of them. Also realized I need armor for the piglins or name tags so am going to sort that out first as well.
The hard part so far seems to be getting to spawn them. So far there was one which was gone when I returned with a name tag. The rest all have been zombies.
Maybe I am too close to the gold farm?
If you do happen to have some time and are willing to check on it. It is all roughly at x:101, y:135 on the roof.
The iron farm was out of commission last time I checked. It seems like someone was maybe trying to improve it or something because the hopper lines couldn't keep up with the output. The iron isn't flowing all the way to the collection chests anymore.
Edit: And slime balls are more than covered, I dropped off a few stacks of slime blocks.
I stood there yesterday and afaik new iron was going in. Maybe slower than I realized though? Also the chest contained multiple stacks of iron blocks, so certainly 23 stacks of just iron.
Maybe it got fixed? All I know is I unclogged the hoppers the other day, but the dispenser wasn't kicking them into the water column so I was throwing stacks in manually.
Edit: I bet the stuff you saw flowing in was still the stuff I chucked in manually. I didn't sit around and wait for it to process.
Nether Quartz incoming! And slime balls too!
And does wood type matter?
And obsidian and glowstone dust! Funny story, I thought you needed glowstone blocks, also, I thought you needed way more than 6 stacks....I have 9 stacks of glowstone now if anybody else needs any....). Ha, seems someone else already gathered the glowstone and obsidian.
Thanks for all of that! The wood type doesn't matter btw, this is wood is earmarked entirely for crafting stuff like pistons, hoppers, redstone torches, levers, etc.
I've got the redstone on the cyan line functional all the way to the river we discussed @Auk @eyechoirs @GravySleeve. Here's a map. The star is a functional stop at the Cubic Cabana, and the red line is the turnaround at the river. Feel free to pull it further south if that works better. The design is still super rough. Just getting the line functioning was a lot of work, though, so beautification will have to wait for another day. :)
By popular demand, the rocket shop has been upgraded to make level 3 rockets! @Noox
And it didn't brick the server this time??
Tea upgraded the server when we figured out the bug causing the crash.
Whooo awesome!!!!
Okay, I am now seeing connection issues without using any VPN and while on a fiber internet connection. We might need to move server hosts.
It's also possible that 1.21 is less stable. I've definitely seen more crashes and instability with this version, so it's not a stretch to believe that the instability extends to network as well.
Could be, although on the previous server I also sometimes did suffer odd random disconnects where I would suddenly be dropped but after being dropped could connect basically directly afterward. To the point that I was wondering if it might be my internet connection. Which would be odd considering it is a 500mbs up/down fiber connection that otherwise is very stable. Just to be sure I did run a few scripts for a while that would ping various services and also do periodic tests for download speed, jitter and all that. Nothing turned up there.
I have experienced it on the current server a few times, although not as frequently. The sort of lag people do suffer from, I have only really experienced once. Some people do seem to suffer from it more. So you would think it is something specific to their connection, but they often do experience it at the same time.
If I had to guess, the hosting party might have some network or routing related things going on. Certainly routing issues can cause odd behavior as it then isn't consistent, but only when someone gets routed the long way around.
Having people that experience issues run
tracert
orPathPing
at the exact time they experience these issues might give some insights. Assuming that dynmap runs on the same host, otherwise these commands do give misleading information. Also, if someone wants to run these commands, do yourself a favor and do not share the results without redacting them.
Even if it is something like that, it is unlikely the hosting provider is going to change much. More often than not, you get the network you get and good luck with it unless you are willing to pay a premium.
Long way of me saying that changing hosts might indeed be easier if it is network related :)
Are you renting a minecraft server, or an entire VPS? If it's the latter, I can probably give you a referral code for the cloud provider I most commonly use for non-work things (Hetzner).
It’s a VPS. I’m thinking of hosting it on some real hardware.
This is what I do, but mostly because I'm cheap and always seem to have at least 2 Frankenstein computers lying around at my disposal.
My use case is a bit different though, as most of my players are connecting from inside my house. 🤷♂️
If you're not going to host it on your own hardware & network, and you're seriously considering testing the migration or actually migrating the server, I'd definitely suggest checking their dedicated server offers (but not the "server auction" offers). Unless, of course, you find something cheaper that's just as reliable (or more).
If I was already done with the real-life things I've been mentioning on the server occasionally, I'd be able to set up a test instance for you on my name, but I don't think I'll be able to right now — a lot of things going on these months (not in a negative way!)
Just because you were having issues just now and I did not. It really feels like either a routing issue on the server side or something in your connection is simply not playing nice.
Considering you are familiar with Hetzner I guess I don't have to ask you about your internet connection and possibly wifi situation I suppose ;)
It's really weird because this seems to be the only minecraft server causing such problems for me. I was on Hypixel and on my free Aternos minecraft server that I share with my partner, just a few minutes prior to logging in on the tildes server, and both of those seemed to work more or less flawlessly. No huge delays, no being kicked for network reasons.
So, sadly, a lot of the time it's basically unplayable for me, at least from my current location. Thoughout the weeks I've tried with mods, without mods, on separate wi-fi channels, on separate wi-fi bandwidths, on different IP addresses, on different DNS servers and nothing seems to really fix the issue for me. Just happens randomly, even when my "24" mbps connection is in very acceptable levels when speedtesting otherwise. 30-second delays for any of my actions 60% of the time sadly makes it mostly unplayable for me.
Yeah that is what I figured, which also makes me think it is a routing issue. Somewhere some people get routed through a few shitty hops causing issues. If anything moving servers might fix that.
As this is the old thread (just figured this discussion was the best place to pick it up again). @teaearlgraycold
do you still have plans to potentially move the server elsewhere? I think it still could be beneficial because of it also meaning a different network, but given the above I think you don't need much beefier hardware.
Yeah I'm still going to try out a move. Just being lazy about it.
Out of curiosity, were they all on 1.21? If so, are any of them paper servers?
My aternos one is a vanilla 1.18 server, and I'm honestly not sure what framework hypixel runs, but that was on 1.21 :)
I've made a good bit of progress on my nether portals for my volcano base. My roof portal is inside a mini-volcano and connects to the top interior of my big volcano. The portal room is full of lava and iron walkways. Currently I'm demolishing a bastion to collect a bunch of Blackstone Bricks and their variants so I can work on the volcano basement floor.
The server is acting very strange for me, it gets laggy, then the elytra stops working and I can't eat. I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting and just seems stuck.
When I’ve had that experience it’s been caused by a bad network connection.
Ooh, as an Australian, that’s something I’m unfortunately familiar with — sounds like you’ve got some severe lag somewhere between your game client and the server!
Are you playing via wifi or Ethernet, and do you have issues with any other games or websites? Just some basic troubleshooting — try rebooting everything (modem, router if that’s separate, computer that you’re playing on, maybe even any other network connected devices you own) and give it a few minutes unplugged before turning it back on.
I figured it out, was a badly set up vpn, thank you
So this week I have been working on the library that is part of my cathedral I call a house. It is getting near completion, just need to figure out a ceiling, exterior entrance, and some other minor details. I am also hoping to create some secret passageways connected to it. My longterm goal is for this cathedral to have a ton of secret passageways It does get close to campsite 1 that @mendanbar made. I know mendanbar has previously said I can remove it, but at this point I feel the campsite is iconic.
Maybe one of the secrets should lead to a hidden trapdoor/entrance at the campsite 😉
I like that idea, I will definitely incorporate that in at some point
Sorry @j0hn1215 a ghast spawned on the roof and in the process of dealing with it a bit of the map caught on fire. I was able to put it out but just in case you are wondering why there is a little bit missing.
@Auk, I think you build the road from the treehouse towards the town? I noticed it last week and also saw it wasn't quite connected yet to town. I took the liberty of connecting it both to the road network towards town and also with a bridge into the village I am rebuilding.
Yes, that was one I built. Thanks for connecting it in, I got that far and wasn't sure as to the best way to link in so hoped it would make sense as someone expanded in the area.
@Noox, is the roof tower being renovated? ;)
I would not be upset if anyone decided to renovate that tower BTW. I constructed it with limited materials the first week of the server and it's one of my least favorite builds.
I do like the tower to be honest.
Although I already did do a few touch-ups around the base when paving the area and recently I moved some blocks around on the roof so some trapdoors give you access to the portal making it easier to fly in.
EDIT:
Oh! It is hollow of course, I might do something with the inside!
Oh i totally forgot to take it down haha - apologies I moved my armadillo to my new base and needed a safe way to get her up there LOL
I'll get rid of it tonight when I'm on!
No worries, already took it down while doing some work on the tower. The scaffolding I put in your crashpad stash chests.
@GravySleeve , I figured out what the sound is I am hearing! "trident returns". You can play it here.
Today it was Evie collecting heads, but sometimes I also hear it randomly near my house. I wonder if tridents returning is a global sound....
Just googled and found this from a year ago. No resolution, but strange indeed.
FWIW, I also searched the bug reports for both Paper and Minecraft and didn't see anything that looked related.
Isn't that similar to the totem activating sound?
No, different sound the totem one is more like an explosion. I was able to identify it by turning subtitles on.
My random guess (haven't logged in in weeks) is that you're actually being pranked by someone
Could be, the thought did occur to me. But it is really random and with large intervals.
What an unusual bug.
There is a distant horizons update, if you use Iris you might want to wait with updating as the newer version is not compatible yet. Or it is a combination of updates, currently my installation is a bit borked.
Edit:
I had to downgrade DH, Sodium and Iris.
The combination that works for me:
The DH devs say there should be an Iris update today (1.8.0 beta 3).
Fun stuff, meanwhile DH actively prompts people to update while it will break for now.
For now I just downgraded the mods, see my comment edit.
Yeah. The in-game update prompt seemed like a terrible idea when I heard them boast about it on a release update. It’s a hierarchical inversion.
