Last week @Bront made this overview for anyone who wants to get started, figured I'd link it again here :)
Also there have been a bunch of updates
Updates!
Edit:
Also just added a lectern at the spawn inspired by the instructions Bront wrote.
I appreciate you including a screenshot of my stables. One thing I have been doing with my base is adding in secret rooms and passageways. One of the goals with that is for it to be fun for others to check out my base. If you haven't checked out my base for a while, I would recommend it. Also, if you find a secret passageway, you can DM me on Tildes but please don't tell others.
Appreciate the shout out! I've almost finished with everything I have on my todo list for the volcano! Most of what I have left is pretty simple other than wrangling an elder guardian, so I should be moving on to a new project soon(ish)! I had planned on doing the shopping mall next, but I think I'm going to do a smaller project instead first (not sure what yet).
Hey all! The
server destroyerblue ice tunnel connecting TildeTown with @Noox's base and Shroomlandia (formally known as "The De Lijn Line") is now open.Very off topic but @ShadowFox I just noticed a very lovely carpet-flag in your house!! Though I "live" practically next door, weirdly enough I've never visited your base before, really cool :) I hope we'll see you back on the server sometime!
I hopped on tonight to finish my entry for the Hall of Heroes. I was worried I wouldn't be able to capture my vibe, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. 😂
Mendanbar, at rest. Arnock, on the night of his joining.
Children of Tama? Sokath, his eyes opened. Darmok and Jalad on the ocean!
(Took me a minute as I'm not fluent in Tamarian :D Also, the original implication of the sign is unintentional, ha)
Shaka, when the walls fell
Off topic, but this whole exchange reminded me of a bumper sticker I saw a few years ago that had "Darmok & Jalad" and was made to look like a US political party sticker. I went searching online to see if I could share an example and found this, which I think I like even better:

I would say you nailed it :D
I have redone the townsquare metro stop. I tried to copy the style @Evie did for the harbour in town square so it blends in nicely. Evie, feel free to modify the roof so that it better matches your style, I did not get it quite right. @creesch moved the portal to where the bell is, so that also got moved in this redesign. The new station should help visually highlight the messageboard, encouraging new players to check it out. I left the old stop boarded off, but mostly still there as a fun easter egg of the earlier build
https://imgur.com/a/GnTmIsr
Also, with the work of others, most metro stops on the red line have been decorated from the initial functional starting point. The only stop that still needs decoration is the one for the communal farms. Some tunnels have been decorated, but most of the north stretch has not been decorated yet.
Looks good to me!
This looks so nice, and adds some much needed cohesion to town square. I appreciate the picture posts as well. I'm going to be on travel for work next week, so I'll be getting my Minecraft fix via these screenshots. 😂
I'm throwing together a haunted house near town, hopefully to be completed by Halloween. I've got a few ideas using animated armor stands and some redstone tricks that I hope to implement. No peeking until it's done though! It will ruin the surprise! I put up signs out front so enter at your own peril!
I have done some horse breeding and managed to breed a horse at max speed (with decent jump too). If you are wanting to breed a quicker horse, let me know
Edit: Also, I have reduced the herd in the pasture in the communal stables. All of those horses are over 12 b/s. The top speed of a horse is 14.23 b/s, so they are all fast horses and are free to claim
In unrelated news, the butcher is advertising sales on various items in the horse meat assortment. Also, glue seemed to be overstocked suddenly in the store.
I have added in a metro stop in the Spawn Inn on the red line. I still need to do finishing touches, but it is functional. The revised line goes east just after the stop beside Bront's house, and then rejoins the line at the northeast corner of the red line.
I have also been just thinking about how can we improve the metro to both help out new players, and also showcase builds as players journey into town via the metro from Spawn Inn. I am considering redoing the Town Center station to make it feel a bit more important than its current appearance. This is a balancing act as it should not overshadow or replace the transit hub, but it should encourage new players to check out the message board, as that will help them get established on the server.
Considering how I just redid the villager trading hall station I feel like you are probably good to go ;) At least as far as underground goes. Above ground, you also have some room to play with between the nether portal and the travel agency.
It might even be possible to incorporate the nether portal in the above ground design?
Yeah, I am thinking maybe the best way to approach this redesign may be to consider also redesigning the transit hub. But that may be hard with limited space and also I do not want to just go around redoing other people's builds.
Edit: I wanted to add that I also have no idea for a redesign of the transit hub. However, it is worth considering as we are further into the later game on the server, it might be worth considering improving some of these early builds.
I have been thinking about the transit hub a little bit and doing a few tweaks. There is some room for expansion or redesign at the back. But to be honest, unless we are getting more lines or transport options I do think that for now it is good enough until we have better ideas.
Perhaps adding some extra signage on the inside of that station? But fwiw as the one who did that station's exterior, feel free to do whatever you want with it. My priority at the time was just moving the entrance/exit so it didn't face away from the town square.
I think my plan is to bring that stop up to street level and be open towards the message board. I will look a bit more at if there is basements nearby, but I am considering just having the line pop above ground for maybe 10 blocks. Signs would work, but ideally I want something a bit more visually apparent
Bringing the entire rail up to street level might be a bit difficult. Not impossible, but it will leave you with very little room where there already is little.
Also because, in my mind anyway, it does need to fit and respect the current town plaza as well.
The biggest issue I am seeing is that below ground it now isn't clearly a station where all the other ones clearly are.
One idea I had when looking at it just now is moving the tunnel a bit and go from there. If you look at this screenshot, it might be an idea to make the rail go right where the current tunnel up is. Then make platforms on either side, with double stairs on each side going up and converging.
Possibly add bubble elevators for each side as well. And of course dress the entire thing up like a proper metro station.
That would make it really distinct and if you then have various signs stating "TOWN CENTRAL" it will be clear enough for people traveling through what it is.
Edit:
Doing a bit of surveying and measuring, I do think it is possible to do things above ground. But it still is tricky. Just to make it clear, this is roughly the area I think can reasonably be built in the line of dotted blocks I added after a bit of consideration. Ideally (in my mind anyway) the tree stays because I believe it is a custom build tree (not 100% sure on that one) but I can also understand you wanting the extra space. Perspective from the other side.
So surfacing is possible, but is tight. While I am typing this out I realized I have protected the square with the town bell. This is mostly out of sentimental reasons because I cleaned up that area when we first started. But if I am being honest, it can be made smaller or possibly incorporated nicely in the station (I would like to keep the center part with the bell). For example, that would allow you to use this area as well.
Kind of what I am envisioning if I do bring it to street level is just something simple like fence post pillars in the corner and a simple wood roof. I feel like something small and open would work well in the town square. I still need to look at it more closely, but I am out of town this weekend so it will have to wait
Oh yeah, that should totally work with the space available.
The haunted house is officially open! Come visit soon, located just to the southwest of the nether roof tower in town.
Wrong thread, gravy!
Whilst it took a few more deaths than I was hoping I've almost finished my hermitry and tooling up and I'm ready to return to tildes town. Anyone got any small plot coordinate suggestions for a little house?
It really depends on what kind of building you want to do. Do you want to build in the flat area near town, on the edge of the cliff overlooking town, or the steep cliff edges on the river? Also, do you want neighbours that are close or do you want room to expand?
Depending on your preferences, there are various plots still available I think. I did a bit of scouting:
There a probably a bunch more spots available, but these did stand out to me :)
Note, I used dynmap links but check the locations out for yourself as well as because it isn't always super clear what dynmap is pointing to in my opinion.
I think the cliff side spot would be really nice to have a build there. That area just seems like a mess to me. It will be a tricky spot to build though as it is a pretty steep hill
They can also cover up the archaeology hole behind the comically large mushroom and build there. I recall Evie (who was the one who found this thingy in the first place) said that we can cover it up if we want to.
However, we do not claim any responsibility for any yeast infections and/or other fungal infestations.
The other side of the Fun Gal Avenue is also unclaimed, except for 2 or 3 blocks where I placed my oyster mushroom sculpture.
Yeah could be a challenge, although it also gives various options with a layered building. The area is entirely free though, even underground there doesn't seem to be anything as far as I could tell.
Layered building would be a cool idea.
I've not had the time to be on since I made the comment but hopefully over the next few evenings I can make a start on the cliff. Layered building sounds like a fun challenge to attempt to make look nice.
@teaearlgraycold I know I said I was logging of, but then I changed my mind. But seems like the server is now down?
My bad. Fixed it.
@GravySleeve what's up with all the cats and fireworks farm? I was hunting for the source of the golems spawning and suddenly saw them :D
If you mean underground in the farm, it's to direct the creepers to their death, as they are afraid of cats
Ah, didn't know the farm uses cats for that or that creepers are afraid of cats :D
Yep!
I've been thinking of rerouting the path through my volcano a bit when I can get back online again. Hard to explain the plan, but I'll try. After the first cave section, instead of crossing the bridge, I'm going to alter the path to go over to the amethyst geode and then passed the warden. After the warden, you will continue along through where the axolotl is and then cross the bridge. Then the path at end of the bridge will be altered to continue up and out of the volcano. Basically, the main reason I want to do this is for the view of the warden as you go by will be much clearer and direct. It also should be fairly easy to accomplish as I'll only have to change one area of the path.
Edit: It has been done! Turned out to be slightly more awkward to do than I thought, but the viewing angle on the warden is significantly better!
Does anyone have a clue why golems keep spawning around the trading hall? The entire area is lit to the degree that it might as well be 24/7 daytime. They also spawn in odd places like on top of the hall, on top of trees, etc.
Has someone been killing them, causing them to gossip? Or did @teaearlgraycold tweak some mob spawning settings?
Edit: Minty to the rescue. Apparently we had a leashed golem that is now missing. So everytime we kill them they just respawn.
Oh yeah, there used to be a golem in the tank with the villagers. Wonder where he got to.
