The server operates on a soft whitelist. Anyone can log in and walk around, but you need a Tildes account to gain build access.
I made a post for people who are curious about the server and may have questions.
-How can I get started?
Head into Tildetown to pick up free supplies. From spawn, take the bridge over the river. You can get a boat at the end of the bridge and explore the whole area from the water. If you continue on foot along the birch wood path, you will reach a sign and a choice between the mountain path or the river path:
If you take the mountain path up, you will pass by the transit stop for the Red Line, which takes you to the transit hub at the center of town.
If you take the river path, you will pass by a white bridge leading to the Hall of Heroes.
Both paths will lead you into the center of town and the message board. Here you can check for free supplies in the chests. There is also a book that lists most of the resource farms on the server.
Also in Tildetown: A villager trading hall, a large community storage automatic sorter, a community super smelter, Iron farm, fireworks farm, and much more.
-What if I don’t want to go into town?
Opposite the path heading into Tildetown is another path which will take you out of the spawn valley to the north sea. There are several builds along this path, ending at the flower hill developed by @Felicity .
-Where can I build?
Anywhere in the world is free for you to build on, as long as someone else has not claimed the spot first with their own build. There are some spots near the center of town that are still open to development.
-Is there a fast way to get around?
There is a system of portals connected on the Nether roof. Look for the tall and skinny stone tower near the center of Tildetown which will take you there.
-Anything cool to look at?
There are too many builds on the server to list them all, so I will pick a few of my favorites at random for this post:
Noox’ Crashpad is the only generated building left and thus the oldest building in Tildetown.
The Southcliff Plaza was built within the first 24 hours of the world, although I am not sure who built it. Most of the road system in the area started from this point.
The bridges connecting the spawn valley cliffs are amazing, built by @IsildursBane who also built the cathedral in this image. In this second view, you can see a white camping tent, also a build from the early days of the world, by @Mendanbar .
On top of the southcliff mountain sits a massive boat built by @Positive and others. There is a water elevator to get to it from the earlier mentioned plaza.
Farther out of town, you can find a hot air balloon with a whole house aboard! This is another @Noox creation.
There is an evil tower that looks to be corrupting the surrounding area. This is @ColdheartsTalon build, and includes a lot of hidden surprises within.
The sprawling estate built by @eyechoirs has a lot to see and do.
Back in Tildetown, make sure to stop by the Museum of Natural History. I read @joeglen is looking for donations if you find anything interesting!
-Questions about mods
Minecraft has never been easier to mod. Grab a 3rd party launcher like GD Launcher or Prism Launcher and download mods directly into the launcher. Make sure to use the ‘Fabric’ version of game/mods.
This older modlist has some nice features and performance improvements. My mod list is a little larger, as I have included shaders and the Distant Horizons mod
I highly recommend the Stay True texture pack and if you use shaders then I recommend Complementary Reimaged.
Great overview!
I recently added some extra signs for all of this. So, it shouldn't be too hard to miss ;)
Within town, things get a bit more confusing. It is worth noting that on dynmap you can find markers for a bunch of stuff. Although it should be updated @noox used to do this but they haven't been on in a while and it shouldn't be down to one person anyway. @teaearlgraycold can I have the rights pretty please to add markers to dynmap?
After visiting the museum it is only a short walk to my estate where you can do a lush cave tour or just mingle with the villagers of the town on my estate ;)
I've gotten distracted by some personal life stuff - I'll hop on tonight to update the Dynmap and then I'll also paste the Dynmap query I use for updating the map - then anyone can easily add their markers!
That happens from time to time, like I said shouldn't be up to you alone to update that thing :)
I think I found the right commands, but was not allowed to use them, hence me asking Tea. Apparantly you already reached God status ;)
Hah, I can't make it tonight after all but saw that you already added some new markers! Just in case, here's an easy query for the registry list; just fill in the blank spots :)
Yup, decided to give it a go and found I have the rights :) All houses from the book have been added, also some farms (not all of them though).
I also created a new set which is hidden by default for transport stops and such on the various raillines. For that one I used
/dmarker add <marker-label> icon:<icon-id> set:<markerset-id>
while traveling on the rail, so I didn't have to type in coordinates.HOW DARE YOU HAVE A LIFE!
Exactly! Smh my head 😤
you shake your head your head?
smhmh my head
That's just a headache in the making
Yeah I’ll go ahead and make you a God (aka a mod) later today.
And so the church of creesch was born
I'll try to not let it all go to my head ;)
edit: I failed...
You might have to expand the church in your estate if you are going to be starting a cult. Especially with Evie and myself having cathedral inspired builds, you may need a grander church. Although, your estate could easily be rebranded as a compound, which would give you a cult spin on things
Hah, considering that the majority of the villagers sleep in a dungeon under the church the compound rebranding could actually work :P
Well, darn, if the mushroom gang wasn't RPing as an anarchosocialist republic I'd seriously consider building a creesch temple now
praise be! The holy one appears before us! ;)
I was sure that the screenshot would show a bunch of "helpful" markers like the signs you put in the nether hub. :D
Hey, some of those are helpful ;)
The first floor of the museum is pretty much done! Rocks and minerals: feel free to check it out! Still working on exhibits upstairs. I have been swamped since the academic year started!
Definitely anyone feel free to suggest ideas for exhibits and cool stuff to show off!
I walked through the museum last time I was on (very happy it's so close to my place!) and it's super great! Excellent work on it.
Ooo... I made a favorites list
I really enjoyed seeing my bridges with the shaders on, they look great. Especially since I am around the bridges all the time, I am kind of desensitized to them, but they were such a fun first week or two project.
ooh thanks for the rec for the stay true texture pack, it fits exactly what I wanted from a texture pack
Thanks for this post! I don't think anyone has made a clear guide starting from spawn before, so this is super helpful. Especially the pictures.
I always laugh when someone brings up the tent. It was such a throwaway idea in line with my whole "vacation" theme, and somehow it has stuck. :D
The tent is going nowhere. I have designed the library wing of my cathedral/house around the tent (I did move it over three blocks) so it will be a permanent fixture.
Thank you for this, Bront! There's definitely been some confusion about options of where to go when new players start.
To that end: I am actually continuing work on The Spawned Inn!
I'd like to make the inn at spawn actually useful, both for new players, and server veterans.
Current ideas:
-Ender Chest
-Stables
-Map Room (start of spawn->town map already up!)
-Villager or two to trade with/a farm to get items for trades
-Free food/starting supplies
-Nether Roof Portal (if one will fit - it's fairly tight up there)
-Metro stop in the "mine" area
So, what else to people think would be helpful when you start out? Or helpful when you just exit the end? Or helpful when you unexpectedly die with no spawn bed and find yourself naked and alone?
Man I have to give this a try now
Good thing you mentioned the flower hill. @Felicity I haven't seen you online in a while, but if you intend to come back (or if you still play but not at the same hours as me), feel free to let me know, as I'm currently digging a highway for blue-ice boat travel that passes very close from your area; adding a branch towards your area won't be a problem at all!
This past month really hasn't lent itself well to free time between the daily stress and preparing to move countries, so I haven't been able to play as much as I'd hoped. I'll probably hop on sometime soon and we can coordinate something, heaven knows I can use a distraction.
I get it; I'm also on a similar boat (ba dum tss) nowadays. Good to hear you're coming back in the future, and good luck with moving countries! I hope the stress on your end isn't as bad as I imagine, but we're here to distract you from it for at least a while! :)
This is perfect timing. I'm finally back home and looking to jump on the server for the first time this evening. I'm comfortable adding all the mods by myself, it's lovely it's easier than manually jiggle the inside parts of .jar files these days, but do you know if you can share custom launcher profiles to install them all at once?
I can export a zip of the instance in prism launcher, but I rather not share that as I think it includes everything. It also allows me to export a list of all mods including links to modrinth in markdown format. My modlist is slightly different but also overlaps plenty. At first glance it mostly comes down to a different map mod and I also have AmbientSounds installed. Which actually is one of my favorite mods as it brings the world alive with, lots of ambient sounds (wind, rustling trees, birds singing, etc), you do need to adjust the volume of it because by default it is loud.
Had a lovely time exploring the server this evening. The builds are amazing all round town and shaders/distant horizons elevates that rather nicely. Unfortunatly the verification seemed to not have worked for me, does anyone know if you need to do something/wait a little bit of time before it works? I've double checked spelling for the verification code.
It should work immediately. @teaearlgraycold would be the best to reach out to for help
Interesting, there must be something broken. I’ll look into that.
Hmm, I can't see anything wrong. Can you tell me if you saw any errors? Sadly the website's error records get deleted after 1 hour so I can't review errors there. I did just check and was able to re-verify myself.
Edit: @GravySleeve said that you had some initial typo in your username and then tried a second time. I see your bio on Tildes has two identical validation codes in it. Maybe you have the incorrect one in there twice?
I didn't see any errors just put the two names in and copied the code. The two codes was testing to see if it needed to be at the start or end to work. I'll replace my whole bio with the code (which I'll double check again) later to test.
When you press the verify button there should be some kind of message at the bottom of be page.
Ah, it's now popped up with you need to be on the server to change your nickname. That didn't pop up when I tried it yesterday (I wasn't logged in to the server then either) so I'll try when I'm back from work. Apologies if the issue is just me not reading it all properly haha
That’s step one!
With curseforge (I know, I know, I should switch to something newer), there are pre-made modpacks you can instalI, I imagine the newer launchers must have them too. I usually go with the Fabulously Optimized modpack, then go install any extra mods I wanna use to go with it.
The Perpetual Furnace is lit! Definitely still some beautification work to be done, and a few roads to divert, but a working product is now up and running!
With the rainbow kelp farm, over-river kelp pipe, kelp processor, and fuel aqueduct now finished, the furnace in town has an absurd amount of fuel in it, and more flowing in all the time!
So: Please use the furnace! Put as many smeltable items in as you can! No batch too small or too large!
Got to use it properly this week, was nice to have items smelted this quickly! :)
So I am starting the iron farm storage overhaul project. I am going to set up autocrafters to turn bone meal and iron into blocks and only store blocks. I am also going to look at replacing some of the long hopper lines with alternating clay pots to reduce performance impact
Edit: After some slight testing, iron blocks appear to be working. I might have a slight issue with the bone blocks so need to run a longer test
Edit 2: Electric Boogalo: The rerouting and autocrafting seems to be working well. I am now in the process of converting the second set of iron farms out back to use water streams instead of hopper lines. The one snag I have ran into is that the farms are not well marked with a different block so I broke one farm and need to wrangle these villagers some more. I will also do some clean up of that access area so that it is easier to work in
Edit 3: The farm is now fully working. I fixed the farm I broke and significantly reduced the amount of hoppers for the underground portion of the farm (and also made it look nice and easy to move around. I still want to clean up the storage of building supplies in the back, as well as look at reducing hopper usage for the second floor in the tower
Edit 4: I have fully cleaned up that area. The farm should be working well but if it isn't let me know and I can come fix it. I redecorated some areas as well. I felt the birch wood floor did not match well with the rest of the build so I changed it to copper and cyan terracotta
Alright, I have updated a bunch of markers on dynmap:
If you feel something is missing add it to the relevant books in the town square. Bonus points if you also give me a dynmap link in this thread (makes it easier). You can do that by double clicking the location you want listed, then right-clicking the little link icon in bottom left corner and copying the url.
Once I finish moving my things underground, I'm considering demolishing most of my current house and replacing it with something more public-facing, especially since it's so near the natural history museum. Maybe some sort of small zoo? Interested in any ideas people have.
Why are you turning into a mole?
I liked the idea of having a window in the cliffside near town, it's a good view
I have been doing a ton of strip mining (if anyone needs cobbled deepslate I have tons). I found this cool generated structure and giant cave way out there
https://imgur.com/a/CyuqxIW
I found it funny how I was seeing your stripmines right next to the tunnel I'm building for the blue ice boatway, rather than accidentally benefitting from your free labour :P
I should have maybe worked on your tunnel instead to get my diamonds
You had even left some diamonds behind in one (and possibly more) of your tunnels!
But yeah, funnily enough, I've probably gotten over 2 stacks of diamond ore by now, just by casually digging this tunnel
WAIT, WAIT, WAIT! Hold on. Are you saying if you dig a lot underground, you find diamonds?!?!?
I'm absolutely chuffed to bits
Throw some in community storage! I don't currently need any, but I know the community storage is empty.
Good idea, I threw in 8 shulkers full
@GravySleeve you madman, you made it work! The warden addition is freaking awesome!
Hey thanks! Did you take the tour again? The trigger for the lava flows has been added as well!
Edit: I just might have to adjust the timing some more. I didn't get a chance to test again before leaving for work.
I did do the tour again, it was awesome! Not sure if the trigger worked, I think the lava might already have been flowing? I'll pay better attention next time when I am not distracted by ominous warden sounds and darkness.
It may have still been flowing from the previous test. The area has to stay loaded for 5 minutes before the lava will start to receed.
@teaearlgreycold is there a way to get a copy of the first server world? I am thinking I want to do a similar build to what I was starting on the first server, but I forget exactly how I did it
Try this: https://tildes.net/~games/1fc7/tildes_minecraft_survival_world_downloads
If you can't get the world download, I still have it on my computer. I could get screenshots or a litematica schematic if needed.
I got part of it downloaded yesterday, but then it stalled part way through and won't complete anymore so I may have to take you up on that. I want a screenshot of a crane that I was part way through building when the server shutdown was announced. I believe the coords are around 400, -1200. It was just west of the Asian styled mountain that was a couple hundred blocks north of the observatory
I've just restarted seeding all 3 worlds if you'd like to try the torrent again.
I can do that, I'll be on in an hour or so!
Got you a couple screenshots!
Thank you. I am considering building a crane in a similar manner near my cathedral and wanted to use my own build as inspiration
@soap , I found a secret thing!
:O
My tunnels have been unearthed!
Yeah, I really stumbled upon them by accident. I was hunting down a skeleton somewhere by sound (cleaning up dark spots) and basically went through the tunnel roof. It's a nice train ride!
If you want, we can look at extending your rails towards the transit hub :) Possibly make it a branch of the redline or its own line.
Sounds good! I've been meaning to put the exit somewhere that isn't underwater lol
You are now connected to the red line! In fact, the intersection I made will later this week be turned into a proper station replacing the current village trading hall station :)
It is fully functional so people can now more easily pay you a visit :)
Edit:
Still needs a bit of finishing touches, but it now properly is a station and the old one has been closed of :)
Storage has been installed at the witch farm
Also added 35 cauldrons to collect powdered snow. Figured I might as well since its in a snow biome and is somewhere people will afk at
And an egg trap to get rid of any zombified piglins that spawn from the portal.
No kidding! That's a lot of storage! :D
redstone is important!
So... I just realized that I get three paychecks this month. How good of a gaming rig can I build these days with $8-900 USD?
Edit: I guess my big question is, can a computer in this price range handle things like DH and shaders well? I'd love to be able to try stuff like that properly.
I'd recommend starting with one of these as a base point and then modifying things like storage and the case to fit you personal needs and preferences.
https://www.logicalincrements.com/
OR.... save it for next month, and have even MORE to spend
Well, that certainly makes things easy. I'll probably pick one of the recommended builds from the Very Good - Great price range. Does anyone know how well a PC with those specs will handle things like shaders or Distant Horizons? I'll be sure to get at least 16Gb of RAM if I go with the cheaper option since I've got an SSD already I can use.
Yeah you should be good to go for both of those in most cases. I honestly would go for 32GB of ram if it fits in your budget, gives a game like minecraft a bit more room if you want to. But it isn't strictly necessary.
On a related note, I was thinking earlier about recording the volcano ride for you today. But I guess you rather see it for yourself with your new pc?
No, by all means, do a video! That'll be awesome! Are you able to include sounds? When I tried to record the fireworks display at the end of last server, I learned replaymod doesn't record sound.
One Volcano recording for you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GaX1AQQE-I
I feel like the colors are a bit more muted as they did appear on my screen and of course youtube compresses the heck out of it.
Thanks so much! Now I have something I can show people when they ask what I'm doing with my life. Heh.
No problem. I made another recording after tweaking some OBS settings and I think it looks much better in as far as colors go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Y7UnJ2smRk
I did forget to set minecraft fullscreen though :P
Oh for sure sounds can work, I would just use OBS to record :)
Should definitely be able to handle both concurrently, but perhaps not at high resolutions and settings. If you’re going to play at 1080p you should be able to do quite a bit with those PCs.
I've had good luck lurking on r/buildapc and the associated discord channel. There are some very helpful people on there that can tailor-make you a build with pcpartpicker exactly to specifications. Amazing folks.
There is also r/suggestapc and r/suggestalaptop If you are less of the "builder" type. :)
Just finished building a pickle farm in town. I put it next to the bonemeal farm.
Now that my computer seems to be stable again, progress has resumed on my volcano! And some good progress it is! I added a stopping point along the cyan line so you can switch over to take the volcano tour! The line will ferry you over the water, through a piston door, and into the volcano's interior. From there, you can either stop and look around my base or continue on the rail line up through a scenic tour. The tour loops through the entire volcano before returning you back over to the cyan line. Still a lot I want to add, but come check it out if you haven't yet!
Also, @eyechoirs where have you been? I wanna do some PvP gosh darnit!
