Factorios first (and probably last) expansion/DLC releases on 2024.10.21 (in three days from now), and I'm sooo looking forward to this! \o/
Additionally the Factorio base game will receive a free update to version 2.0 with many optimizations and QOL features.

Personally, I mostly just want the trains thing, and the other planets and rebalancing are just a nice bonus. Overhead trains means I won't have to think about train signals and other peoples' train setups in MP.

Minor spoiler for two new game mechanics (already revealed in the trailer)
E.g. heating the factory so it doesn't freeze over, or spoilage of items, which makes it necessary to relatively quickly consume items. And there are a few more, like item quality.
All this will require new builds for new puzzles to solve.
And in the coming months it's also going to be interesting to see what the modding scene will do with these. There are excellent overhaul mods for vanilla, and now modders can design and add completely new planets, like this new water planet.
Same here, the qol is nice but really at some point you kinda figure out factorio and it's more about complexity and organization, but the mechanics of solving the complexity are all the same....

With how they are doing the expansion there is going to be a whole slew of new issues to solve and I'm really excited about that too!

I read a comment that Factorio 1.0 now looks like a tutorial. 🙂

This game is going to be mammoth now. Like I know theyve made it easier to launch a rocket in 2.0 but for casuals it already took tens of hours to get to thinking about the rocket, never mind 3 other planets of content.
I'm gonna get a server going I think. Maybe with the power of friendship we can do it.
Apparently they fiddled with the tech tree and costs, so rockets are earlier and cheaper. My recollection is something like 2/3 of the way through the tree and 30% of the material cost, but that...

Could always use some mods to make the early game less of a grind. Starting out with some robots and power armor with some of the basics researched saves you about 2-3 hours of busywork

The nice thing about factorio through early phase is that you can apply all the learned thinking from later phases and even think about what you'll do with what you are building now for later, that can help with the reputation somewhat. But also server is good too, my friend and I play together and we both work on areas the other might not be interested in, so can help push forward. There is also team pressure like either one of us might be on a building tear which can pressure us to get going on a project too, so building together can make a huge difference for sure.
It took me a very long time to launch the rocket across several attempts, but after I'd done it once I was able to do it again much faster (even with additional constraints for achivements).

I have been religiously following every weeks FFF, and am hyped beyond belief at both this expansion and just the factorio QOL features. Im not actually sure whether I will play space age first, I might just do another vanilla (+elevated rails) run to appreciate all the new QOL stuff first. (also, I still need to get lazy bastard, so it seems a good time to do it.)
Im also working on setting up a factorio server on my NixOS machine so that I can update it to the expansion as soon as it releases to play with a few friends.

I've been waiting very impatiently for this. Stopped playing my existing modded Space Exploration sometime after they announced Space Age - so many of the improvements sound like a huge quality of life increase that it feels like it'd be a pain to play the "old" version now. I think I'd be excited for just 2.0, but Space Age looks like it adds a lot of interesting mechanics mods couldn't really do before.

Just great times for Factorio nerds. 🤓

For me, both are equally impactful.
Is there a finalized list available somewhere?
This site in the wiki maybe, but I'm not sure how accurate/complete it is.
I only followed the FFF blog posts so far.

This is going to be dangerous to my health and productivity

I know people who took all next week off to play the game. I hope you're doing something similar.
I wish I could, but I just started a new job at the beginning of the month, so I dont have any vacation saved up.
