The server operates on a soft whitelist. Anyone can log in and walk around, but you need a Tildes account to gain build access.
New thread, I'll repeat my last comment. lol. Basically, I'm working on Daytowne that is essentially south or SW of spawn - along the river spawn is on.
The idea is that I will be offering some prebuilt houses on lots as well as empty lots. Hopefully folks will build in the general style of the village (i.e. somewhat vanilla-esque houses in scale and materials) and it can be a sort of vacation village for a second home. :)
I scrapped my initial layout, so I just have my house and one empty lot so far, I'm working on flattening land by the river (which is why I started it over).
If the idea itself sounds fun, I see some land just south of town near the nether portal that I might go to instead - it's a bit flatter and closer. So if you have opinions, express them and it'll colour what I do. :)
I get the greatest pleasure from building roads and villages. When it comes time for a new server eventually, I hope to help organize some road building. While I think some chaos is good, I think having a good grid system can help people navigate, so a combination of some grid and some chaos is good. :) But I also would never want to dictate how things should work, so there's that. :)
Edit; Working on a new spot with flatter terrain: https://ieh.im/s/msedge_peYi6A3Mha.png - south of town, see my little head on the map there :) So well past the end of the green line… Look for trees and bamboo
Been busy IRL the last few weeks so haven't been able to jump on, but if I do have time I would absolutely love to help out with this project if you would like some, even if it's just flattening out some land. Sounds like a great idea!
Absolutely more folks are welcome! I wanted to get things started to show the basic template idea, but more ideas are also welcome as I don't want to stifle creativity, either :)
And as was pointed out, NE of spawn because I keep getting my north/south backward for some reason.
edit: New spot, south of town: https://ieh.im/s/msedge_peYi6A3Mha.png
Look for trees and a bit of bamboo... :)
We really should consider extending the metro lime line further south. There is too many settlements down there that are not serviced via metro
I always planned to some day once I got around finishing the arena surroundings. My plan is to have a second stadium station on the south side and meet up with the road again. Something like this. From there it can easily be extended south.
We should also consider in that loop extending the rail further east and creating a stop for @revivinglaziness if they want it
I haven't had time this last week to play much, but if this is desirable for other reasons I'd be happy to help. I wouldn't extend the line just for me, though!
It would be awesome. :)
There is a walkway that is next to the green line that goes past where the green line turns. I wouldn't mind seeing the green line extend over to about where I am starting this. In fact, I'll make sure to incorporate space for a downtown station :)
I believe the lines need four blocks wide for the line + fencing, So I'll build my main street with that in the middle and roads on either side...
See my comment here ;)
Feel free to pick up the extension if you want to. There is no shortage of rail parts as we have a factory for them.
Hmm. I'll see if I can find that factory and perhaps add a nice loop, opening up some more land :)
The factory is way up north and I don't think I marked it on the map yet. Here is the map link, there is a roof portal nearby though.
Awesome - that's pretty easy to find :)
The map link really highlights how much I need to finish it. Function-wise I mostly just need to install a user-friendly item input system. But I also need to cover up the madness with something that looks half decent.
I should also put a nether portal that is better located and labeled. If I put the portal inside the one room meant for humans and don't put an exit then I can even pretend no one will see the outside even if I don't give it a nice shell.
the line could be either four or five blocks long. In modern parts of the rail, we have sometimes done an empty block in between the two sets of rails for aesthetic reasons on a few lines (fence, rail, empty block, rail, fence) but we are probably not going to redo the existing track so it will be a mixture.
I've already built some main street but will see about maybe building some of it slghtly wider. Mytown is one house and street and forest, soooooo..... it's not too bad to change it up a bit yet. heh.
Build it how you want it to look in your town. We can always adjust the track width for what you want as we approach your town if needed. I thought I would just mention it in case you want it to be wider. A good example of the wider look is on the Lime Line, as it moves through the skyscrapers between the river and the mall
I think you mean north or northeast of spawn, no?
Yeah, for some reason I keep getting my directions backwards. bleh. Thank you <3
Progress as of this evening: https://ieh.im/s/msedge_JV6YKDGdEf.png
Yes, no roof on my house yet. heh.
That'll be the main street. Two blocks of gravel in the middle in case someone extends the green line out here. Next up, I'll build a bridge over the river. I'm growing the wood I use, so it all takes time. :) I'll have like 4-6 houses and a couple of plots set up in a day or two more.
How many people have joined so far? I’m feeling tempted...
Edit:
Dang. This was the coolest verification thingy I ever did. Like... log into the game, then copy something to my bio here, and it got verified? Wow. What sorcery is this?
Eighteen people have played on the server this month (excluding those with a playtime of less than one hour). Many more who, like myself, played a lot in the past but haven't recently.
If you do return, you'll be pleased to find that your home's property value has skyrocketed as my house next to yours has been turned into station/junction of the Red Line and the Purple Line :)
On average I would say active players at a given time are between 0-5, with occasional peaks of closer to 10 (sometimes during the weekend it gets busy). There tends to be a few players who have joined the server recently, there are still a few of us who have been active since the start as well. Since a lot of the playerbase is adults with responsibilities, it is common for a player to be inactive for a few months due to varying things, and then come back on after a bit of a hiatus. The most active times for the server are during EU evenings and North American evenings.
Yeah um sorry. April has been fallow for me with Minecraft. Was glued to the server in March :(
It happens. Part of the server culture is that people will get busy and stop playing. Sometimes they come back when their life becomes less busy, other times they don't. There is no pressure to continuously play
The verification thingy is this project that I made.
At the very least you should hop on and take a tour around and see all the stuff we've built. We've got a lot of very cool stuff to explore!
So... Yourself included, we seem to have gotten 5 (!!!) new people suddenly join the server over the last week‽
I have kind of taken the approach that since we have a decent core player base, there tends to always be a steady trickle of new players. Not every new player sticks around, but we tend to get enough that the server has a self sustaining player base to maintain a small active server
I started writing what I'd accomplished in the last few weeks and realized I was writing it like I write my notes for my stand up meetings at work :D Oy.....or should I say ahoy?... me mateys, because this pirate's back in the action playing Minecraft again!
I've been spending a bit more time on my pirate island working on various projects. I'm actively farming wood to build a ship and also expanding the giant wood door I'd built on the island. The plan is for a WoW Deadmines-esque door obscuring a ship safely docked inside of a cave. The one I'd built is really way too small, so I expanded it 5 blocks in all directions, which honestly still may not be big enough...
I, for one, am interested in integrating Scrum into the tildes minecraft server, so long as @creesch is the scrum master
Noooooooooo. I spend at least an entire day a week in ceremony meetings. That's 8 whole hours :(
Hell no. Took on the role once in a team where they had it as a rotating role. Did not enjoy it one bit.
Fun fact though, I actually have scrum master certification (company paid for it and passing the exam is extremely easy)
Alright, you can be the product daddy
Did you make sure to add the title to your name on LinkedIn?
Ugh, recruiters are already annoying enough trying to ask about stuff I enjoy doing.
twitch twitch
Lmao at this interaction of Tea seeing my new cat ears
awww, lol. Well, let me make a formal declaration that cat ears are welcome in any town I have say in. :)
Since we have some new players I'm bringing back the weekly shilling for the Web Chat mod @creesch and I work on. Combined with TailScale (free) I can use Minecraft as a chat app anywhere in the world (screenshot).
Yup, great mod to just hang in the server and chat with folks online! Of course I am biased, but it is why I started the project in the first place :D
Since we are apparently supposed to do our comments in standup format:
What I worked on yesterday: Got the functionality of the first elevator in the mall fully working now. This includes a slight barrier pops up when the elevator is not present at that floor.
Roadblocks: Pistons activating and buttons operate on the same sculk level. So to do the barriers I had to use wool to really restrict the range. It works, but seems slightly clunkier than I hoped.
What I am working on today: I am now in the decorating phase of the first elevator.
@creesch as the scrum master, did I forget to include anything in my standup report?
Is this going to be an impediment for this sprint? If so, is there anything you need here or are you able to navigate this blocker?
I managed to get it working with excessive use of wool. But since it is my first time using calibrated skulk sensors, I had to learn it as I went. If someone has more experience with skulk sensors if they know a workaround without using wool, I would love to hear it.
So I got both elevators working now, and have got the rough new exterior section of the mall built. I still have a lot of little things left to do on this project, to give it the polish that the mall requires. If someone is looking for a grindy project, the road section south of the mall needs to be moved south 4 blocks
You've got to burn down your story points, and retrospective your planning poker.
Planning bloody poker man. State of things. Sometimes they make us do things with fruits. Like, plan how easy it is to peel an apple vs a grape. Or a strawberry. I've been working there since the early 90s, Agile and Scrum are utterly unhinged. At least, in any implementation I've ever been a victim of.
I knew I didn't mention details about my story or time estimates. I blame that on Creesch not properly planning out our release plan, since I do not have story details or time estimates. I also forgot to mention my roadblock of the road being in my way, but I also have very limited room to move the road over
Well as a scrum master it is not my task to plan out the release plan. However, if we don't have this on our board it is something we should start planning I will take it up the PO (@TaylorSwiftsPickles
tag). The other aspects you do mention are valid concerns! Make sure to note them down so we can address them in the next retro and formulate action points on them!
Appreciate you all for bringing this up. I’ll sync with the product team, review the backlog, and ensure upcoming stories have enough detail and estimates ahead of refinement.
For the roadblock, let’s make sure it’s visible on the board so you can discuss it during standup and prioritize if needed. I’ll coordinate with the Scrum Master to ensure it’s addressed in the retrospective.

I have plans to extend the walkway to the new site. I may also rebuilt what's there at ground level with my style of road unless there are objections, but I won't start with that, so no rush
I'll be making some main roads, marking out plots, building housing, planting trees. I'm hoping folks will come create a "vacation" house there. Hoping to see matching building styles - not exact, but using wood/stone for the most part. Stuff that would generally blend into vanilla structures for the most part. :)
If that's the Daytown location, what's the house right near the Temple of Bloom?
I'm not sure what the Temple of Bloom is for sure, but if you're talking about the original Daytowne location… I'm thinking of naming that Daytowne North as opposed to the new location of Daytowne South or something like that. Or maybe better names that aren't quite so masturbatory / ego stroking. hehe.
I intend to develop both locations, just taking a while as I'm a bit slow and work slowly :)
It's the dome like structure surrounded by a circle of trees near spawn.
Weeeellllll, I'm still not 100% sure, but here's a screenie of what I think you might mean, but either way, with the original Daytowne on the river there - one house and a dock. I'm working on flattening the land (sllloowwwlllyy) lol:
https://ieh.im/s/msedge_oCl3WrjaS0.jpg
Yep, that's the one!
Daytowne North has land!

I'm about to lay out some plot and build a couple of houses. Feel free to claim a house or a plot. <3
It took way too long to flatten the land. lol.
I've had a lot going on IRL lately, so I haven't been on much, but I'll build a little cottage in Daytowne next time I have a little time to play. :D
If you prefer a lot that already has one of the ugly houses I built, feel free to replace. And poke around in my house for building supplies :)
(I'm gonna re-do those houses. I wanted some variety, but had to see them up to decide I don't like them. lol.)
Also open to resizing lots and orientations. They are small, although I did those small on purpose :)
I went ahead and built a house in one of the plots! If it's not up to code, feel free to demand changes ;)
I can't wait to see!
I won't really have time to be online this week (I have visitors) but I'd like to pre-claim the northmost west plot (the one closest to the stone hill you haven't terraformed yet) to build a little mushroom house there.
I'll mark it when I get back in :)
I have returned.
The Mushroomhaus has been constructed.
@teaearlgraycold time to upgrade bluemap maybe? https://github.com/BlueMap-Minecraft/BlueMap/releases/tag/v5.7
Done
Why did I think this was a weekly thread? lol. I've held off on posting another something because I was waiting for the new thread, even though here on Tildes, that's much less of an issue. lol.
So.
I wrote to Tea to feel him out about the idea and he is frankly mixed on it, but welcoming nevertheless… so after some more thought, I would like to discuss the possibility, but I realize there will probably be yea and nay votes, and I can be persuaded.
I love the Minecraft server, it is delightful. And although I'd like to do something, I do NOT want to harm the server or take away players or support.
…but I do miss Biomes'O'Plenty, and I really miss a tree harvesting capability…
So I'm considering spinning up a probably Fabric based server. Not as competition, but perhaps to be an additional alternative.
I can only imagine it might steal some focus from The Tildes Minecraft Server, but perhaps not a whole bunch. And perhaps if the server reset cycles are set off from each other - if a server lasts a couple of years between resets - maybe by the time Tildes needs a reset, mine will have slowed down and will continue to slow while Tildes gets a burst of action.
If I'm able to do this, I don't know about the same support - I'd like to set up mapping, but I'm thinking of having a mapping mod rather than an external map. Also using Waystones.
So there may be players who really don't like my server anyway.
but I know I would play on both. Kind of like I play American Truck Simulator for a bit, then go over to Euro Truck Simulator 2, then back to ATS, then back to ETS2… I might play on each a bit less, but I play on the two of them more than if I just had one of them. heh.
If I do set up a server, I'd set up one or two villages with the intent to keep them somewhat reasonably looking like Minecraft villages as folks built there. But outside of that, it would be free and open.
I'd like to build a network of roads for the central core of the server. A little central planning can help with chaos - but actually open things up a little bit so that those who like building roads like I do can help with that - roads or rail or whatever - and those that just like building stuff (helpful like farms or artistic like whatever) can also get to places to do that easier.
So I'd like to know:
While I hope there is support for the idea, and I hope that it can be done without harming the Tildes server (so that I feel comfortable in setting it up), if the community doesn't like the idea, I'd rather know that. So please, your honest opinions. <3
It's a weekly thread, I just forget to re-post the thread occasionally.
It's a conspiracy to keep competition down! ;-)
Initial thoughts is as you plan, it may not be different enough from the Tildes server that it may split playerbase. I would categorize the Tildes server as vanilla+, whereas yours might be vanilla++ or light modded. I think if the main Tildes server was pure vanilla, or if you went heavily modded they could exist together better. But I also am probably in the similar thought of mixed feelings, and would not oppose it.
Another thought is it is worth considering the initial interest and activity peak of a new world/server. I think initially both would sustain themselves, but I feel like after a month or two, one of the servers may struggle with activity.
i would be willing to say that if I killed the Tildes server in this way, I'd shut mine down with no hard feelings.
Also that I'd take suggestions for mods - although I've definitely found that finding mods that all work together and not cause Minecraft to crash can be difficult, even mods from the same engine like fabric and version - but if this happens, I'm targeting 1.20.4 with fabric.
Also worth noting: I think I have to supply a working modpack, which might complicate things. I can't run curseforge right now - I am running Prism at the moment. I'm not sure where compatibilities exist. I do know that it might cause a little barrier to entry, though.
But I'm also going for maybe.... Vanilla+++ or maybe at least Vanilla++½+ :)
I'm open to making it more modded and less a competition, as the last thing I want to do is harm the server and community I do love <3
FWIW, I think someone here did try to set up a modded server a while back, and the lack of an easily downloadable modpack was a pretty big impediment. I would recommend just agreeing on an already maintained modpack (something like Better Minecraft) and going with that. Then at least the work of maintaining compatibility with mods/versions is on someone else's plate. The other thing to consider is that modpacks tend to be anchored to a given Minecraft version, so a long running server will eventually fall behind wrt Vanilla features.
Speaking personally, though, I would absolutely play on a modded server in addition to the existing Tildes server.
Funny you mention that specific mod pack as what I was sort of doing was working on a trimmed down version - with some other additions, of course.
But that really would be a good idea since it's more broadly available in more options.
I'm going to let this stew for a couple of days… but if the feedback continues to be mixed-but-trending-positive like I view this right now… I may give it a go.
So anyone seeing this who hasn't weighed in, your voice does matter to me.
(And additional thanks to those who have!)
