I've seen this article and video posted around to such a degree I genuinely thought the reddit thread full of positive comments was some AI astroturf operation to get sales up.
Then again, ubi games always have a long tail.
It probably is. I don't think the game sold well and having played it briefly I'm certainly glad I didn't buy it.
I've been playing some on gamepass and it's been pretty fun so far. It's not a masterpiece by any means, but it's been pretty solid in the 15 or so hours I've put into it so far. You do have to install Ubisoft's launcher to play it, though, which is probably a no-go for a lot of people.
I really enjoyed my time with the game. It was a well realized environment, an ok story, and well-implemented mechanics (mostly). The biggest complaint was that while that's all true, there wasn't much compelling me to continue playing. The story wasn't strong enough to grip me, the mechanics feel tired and unoriginal.
Maybe those things have been addressed now but I know I eventually just kind of fell off. I do intend to go back and play some more at some point but I question if that point will ever come.
That's true for all open-world Ubisoft games. You need to really like the environment and existing in it for the games to have any draw. AFAIK, the Star Wars game has a pretty good atmosphere and people like that about it, but don't ever expect Ubisoft to do anything revolutionary.
Every publisher that rushed a launch or half-assed a game is chasing after some post-launch success story like Fallout 76, No Man's Sky, Cyberpunk, etc. And they all seem to have learned the wrong lesson from those cautionary tales.
On the one hand, oh aye. On the other...
...well, I don't miss the era of games that didn't perform to unrealistic expectations being dropped like a dead possum after launch.
