Beginning May 8th at 10 am Pacific, we're opening a reservation queue for Steam Controller. Once you reserve, your place in line will be saved. When we go back in stock, order emails will be sent in the same order that reservations were made.
I know some folks wanted to get the new Steam Controller, but given that it likely sold out in minutes or even seconds, not everyone was able to get one. So here's your chance to get on the waitlist!
Because I am so magnanimous, giving, and obviously most humble, I will likely not be reserving one this time. So that's one less person getting one before you! You're welcome and good luck! 🥰
I hope they do this with Steam Frame. Maybe not even on day one, but reservation system would be great! I certainly will be buying that and I hate waiting for restock and then not being able to...

Here's hoping this reservation queue works well and Valve is able to reuse this for the upcoming hardware launches. I'm very excited for the Steam Frame and I'd hate for them all to get gobbled up...

I wonder if they just totally underestimated the demand. $100 is pretty pricey for a controller, and it seems targeted towards a somewhat niche market.

I remember the first Steam Controller had middling interest. So they firesaled it. But then that's when interest, I think, started to increase. Because people, including myself, finally for our hands on it and realized it was actually a really good controller, even if it looked weird and the idea of using touch pads as dpads was strange.
I imagine that, plus the great Steam Deck touch pads, and all the buttons it has, and deep customization, really pushed interest in the next Steam Controller way higher. I know a lot of people have been wanting Valve to either re-release the original controller or come out with a new model.
While I'm principally a PC Gamer and I love my KB&M, it was the Steam Controller (then eventually the Steam Deck) that got me using controllers with PC a lot.
I don't see how they could with how much hype and discussion there was across the internet. Everyone was talking about it and most saying they were going to get one. To think it wasn't going to be...

To think it wasn't going to be a huge hit is crazy

Although the Index didn't sell nearly as much as the Steam Deck. Although while the website did have technical difficulties, things went pretty smoothly after the ball started rolling for that too. I ended up getting blacklisted because I was out-of-state on hotel wifi, but I eventually was able to reserve a unit despite the delay.
I think they didn't expect that 100€ controller will be at such demand. I want one too, but I want Frame more, so I'm still waiting. Confroller will come eventually.

I belive that a lot of people bought the controler just to make profit out of it, that's the main reason products like these goes out of stock day one.

Well, they won't get the money from me. And if people weren't dumb, they wouldn't get the money from anybody. Too bad there will always be someone who will buy it from them...

If it wasn't profitable not that many people would be doing it, sadly. People are impatient but also some people may not be able to buy it straight from Valve like most of Latin American countries...

My mistake for being like Valve and not thinking the Controller would be too popular on its own, completely missing any chance to buy it on launch day. I guess fingers crossed I can pre-order it...

It did for the Deck. I'm somewhat surprised by their choice to make the initial sales round first come first serve.
It worked great for the Index 7 years ago, baffled they didn't use it when they've had and used it for so long
