I've been following the Elder Scrolls series for two months and man are they hungry for any scraps Todd can throw at them. With E3, /r/elderscrolls has been nuts with people hype about the potential for an announcement, then disappointed when it was "Starfield is coming, and here's a new IP from a non-BGS Bethesda subsidiary."

That scratch does look surprisingly like the map. Considering it's the same team BGS team doing both games, it totally makes sense for them to sneak a hint like that in, if this is actually a hint, and not just a little easter egg, like a Pizza Planet truck in a Pixar movie.

And yeah Gamers in general get really weird about certain franchises. The hype get pretty ridiculous, imo.

I've been periodically updating the wiki page on The Elder Scrolls VI with the non-info that is the "development process." I find it very amusing to see a wall of text chronicling the countless ways Todd Howard and Pete Hines have stated "We're not releasing this game for like 10 years" in interviews.

Get a move on, Todd. Or better yet, hire Julian Le Fay and let him get on with it. Oh, actually...

Ohh well. Considering how relatively disappointed I was with the direction skyrim was headed in compared to its predecessors, I'm not even sure TES6 is going to be good. Sucks that systems driven Open World games aren't really in fashion these days.

Kirkbride was contracted for some writing in Knights of the Nine, which is why we ended up with the excellent Song of Pelinal as a counterpart to the otherwise relatively non-boundary-pushing Oblivion. I think Kirkbride also did some consulting for Skyrim, or they at least used many of his ideas (direct quotes or otherwise). But I get the impression from C0DA and some of his interview comments that he is not particularly interested in working that closely with Bethesda? I know that he likes Kurt Kuhlmann a lot, who I believe is still at the company, so it's certainly not out of the question! We will have to wait and see.

YES! I mean, I was going on about system driven open world games yesterday (the newer games being less system-driven, compare the stripping/simplifying of alchemy, enchanting, spellcrafting etc.) but it's the narrative and world building too. Morrowind had so much going for it there compared to Skyrim. Them focusing on text in dialogue enabled them to go into great detail. It also (imo) synergized well with the lack of quest markers and the "mental homework" of figuring out your destination.

The books paint a way more interesting picture of e.g. dwemer or the AlmSiVi temple than anything in Skyrim. Mushroom forest biome? Telvanni wizard cities grown out of plants and only accessible by levitation? Skyrim and Oblivion seem unimaginative by comparison.

Agreed. When a large portion of the industry is over-milking tired franchises I'd rather just try to enjoy the journey. One RDR every decade is better than 8-10 Assassin's Creeds in the same time.

I don't really get what that even means, though. For one, the "killer" moniker makes far more sense for games like WoW or League, where as constant multiplayer games there is a finite amount of time MMO players or MOBA players can spend on.

On the other hand, for single player releases, you play it... and then you're done. You can release an excellent open world RPG, and still buy and enjoy the next elder scrolls. Since single player games take up such a fraction of your total annual gaming time for most gamers, they're not mutually exclusive like that. In fact, I'd argue most people who like those kind of games would play both in this hypothetical and have a great time.

Also, I wouldn't saw W3 is in the same niche (which is a good thing imo). In comparison, the role playing elements are much lighter in W3, in both gameplay elements (specifically, customization) and narratively. In W3, you role play as one specific character, Geralt, who has a very strong, defined character - and that's a strength of the game. But it's also not the same, or objectively better, than how TES handles it with your own created character.

Hasn't it been clearly stated that Elder Scrolls 6 is several years out (several years from Starfield, which is a 2022 title with delay-potential)? Is anyone seriously expecting ES6 before 2024?

Anybody guessing a year says 2024 at the earliest, but hungry fans are gonna be hungry, I guess. There's also a thing where folks only follow news around E3, and other trade shows.

I can't clear the tutorial in the prison, but I appreciate the automatic attack system, it's clunky to drag your sword.

This reminds me: anyone remember the name of that 1st-person fantasy RPG Obsidian was supposed to be working on? That'll probably come out before TES VI and also probably be better.
