I'm sad because I'm looking forward to it, but I'd rather support the striking actors and striking writers and just wait a little bit longer.
Right. Solidarity with all the workers, let their voices be heard and understood both by unaware public and greedy corporations.
Might be a blessing in disguise for WB as they’re strapped for cash for marketing and the current marketing for Part Two hadn’t been successful. It hasn’t come close to the engagement the first trailer for Dune Part One got back in late 2019. It really did feel like there was very little hype for it.
What advertising though? The only reason I even saw pt2’s trailer is word of mouth and because I’m already hyped. I haven’t seen any advertising
That’s part of the problem. The second trailer came out two months after the first. That’s a very short amount of time to release a second trailer after a full first trailer (as opposed to a teaser followed up by a trailer). This was done because of the first trailers lack of engagement compared to the first Dune’s trailer.
Now, at the very least, they have four more months to sort of reset and try something new.
Really? In my circles there was a ton of hype, and a lot of disappointment that it is being postponed. I know a lot of people that finally read the book(s) after the first movie, and are super excited at seeing it depicted onscreen.
Yeah, I think the biggest mistake they made was not shooting them back to back, like Lord of the Rings or The Matrix sequels. Had it come out a year later and not 2 years later, it would be a lot more relevant.
Edit: Fixed a typo.
Part 1 came out in 2021. So it was supposed to be 2 years (now it'll be a bit later).
I think they were waiting to see if the first movie was a success before approving a second one.
A really surprising number of people in my social circles felt really burned by the first one, because they didn't realise it was a two-parter. Like the first thing out of their mouths was about how they were annoyed they had paid to see only half a story, only then followed by any favourable views. It's only anecdotal of course, but I wonder how much that kind of attitude has impacted the overall reception of Part 2?
Dune was pretty clearly billed as part 1 of 2, so I imagine its a rather uncommon opinion.
Spider-man: Across the Spider-Verse though...I was mad (though not really) when it ended as it was getting really good and all of a sudden there was a "to be continued" ending.
I had about three seconds of "oh damn, it's a cliffhanger" and then "holy shit I'm so hyped!" for Spider-Verse :P
People can be interesting with what they do and do not notice in marketing materials.
I knew at least one person who went into Rogue One not realizing it was a prequel to the original Star Wars.
I find this attitude rather annoying because those same people probably would have complained about having to see a 4+ hour movie, and it would have to be pretty heavily butchered to fit in the standard 2 hours.
I kinda feel bad for the crew who've been passionate about this movie series. First part 1 was screwed up with COVID and WB not respecting the wishes of the director to not stream it at the same time as theatrical release. Now part 2 with this delay. It's in good support of the strike though.
Might be a good idea to bring out Aquaman 2 during the strike when Amber Heard cannot do interviews. Because that's going to be a dumpster fire if she's put in front of media.
On the other hand the rumour is that they've had multiple test screenings and re-shoots because it's just a plain bad movie...
I mean, did you see the first one? Just plain bad might be an improvement. I'd put parts of it on level with The Room, honestly.
No, actually if it's just bad it won't be as hilarious. It needs to be awful.
And, yes, I saw it in theaters.
I'm a simple person. I see Jason Momoa, I watch :) (Dude is a month older than me and I'm not sure we're even the same species tbh)
It wasn't The Room bad though, the action bits were genuinely good. James Wan knows his shit. It's just the fact that the worldbuilding in DC superhero movies is lackluster due to lack of overall management.
James Gunn might help, but Marvel does have a 15 year lead on DC, so he's got his work cut out for him.
No disrespect to the kid but teen Aquaman was the Wisesau analog in my mind. Add in the way Black Manta did a homage to propeller man in Italy after the Meet-cute that was like an hour and a half into the movie, the movie which was two and a half hours long I might add, and you've got a recipe, in my book, for bad.
But, Jason Mimosa's got a winning smile, doesn't he? Can't argue with that.
