Fuck you 2026. Picard has always been my favorite captain, he's the one I grew up watching with my family. My brother sent me a text message just 5min ago sharing the sad news.

    THIS FUCKING YEAR

    ETA:
Patrick Stewart was a queer ally who since I knew him was always just there saying the right thing. He also was a big supporter of DV charities and again, he was just always there having understood the thing to do.

    Gah he'll be missed.

Oh. This is going to affect me more than or nearly as hard as George Carlin passing back in '08 did. This is a horrible year.

Oh man, this is one of the few celebrity deaths that really got to me :/ Countless hours have I watched him being the best captain of the Enterprise. I will take the time to listen to him...

I will take the time to listen to him narrating his own autobiography again. I can highly recommend it to everyone. His life story is all kinds of amazing and he narrates it well.

I have very, very few people on my list of "heroes" - I hesitate to even call them that because I personally am not comfortable with elevating people to that level. Captain Picard is on that list...

I have very, very few people on my list of "heroes" - I hesitate to even call them that because I personally am not comfortable with elevating people to that level. Captain Picard is on that list though. And from what I know of Stewart himself, he was likely not far behind.

We watched all seven seasons of TNG as a family when I was growing up, and I've only recently started to realize how impactful Captain Picard was on me. He was a little more prim and proper than I'm interested in, but besides that he was everything I try to be: wise, compassionate, humble, strong, thoughtful, considerate, and excellent to others. He was probably the number one adult role model I had at that age, other than my parents, and he might STILL be in the top two. For years, when trying to make difficult decisions, I imagined what some hypothetical ideal wise person would do ("what would Jesus do" -style lol). Part of my realization was that I had always been imagining Captain Picard :')

Obviously a lot of that is simply the character writing, but I don't think anyone would seriously try to argue that an actor as good as Stewart wouldn't shape the character himself over the course of 150+ episodes. Picard was great because Stewart made him so.

Ugh, this one hurts real bad. Walter Koenig's death was sad, this was heart-breaking because I wasn't just familiar with him for Star Trek.

Yeah, I did not need two of my influential sci-fi heroes to be gone in one week. Unfulfillable voids.

Captain Picard's best inspirational speeches. I always found this compilation when I was having a tough time. I'm glad he knew his work brought solace to so many people.
