Music sounds incredible during the dimensional travel montage, and 2099 world looks pretty wild.
Also, PART ONE!?!?
Yeah, it's supposedly a two-part sequel. And I'm glad for it, since the more the better.
That looks amazing!
I have a weird aversion about animated movies (don't ask me why), but my girlfriend convinced me to watch the first one and it completely blew me away. Very excited to watch this!
I'm admittedly quite biased as a comic book nerd and Miles Morales Spider-Man fan, but IMO it was the best computer animated movie I have seen in a long time. I definitely don't think it deserves to be sitting as high on the IMDB top 250 as it currently is (#64), as there are far too many cinematic masterpieces that IMDB users have ranked lower than it. However it was still really good, and is up there with the likes of WALL-E for me in terms of its quality and emotional impact.
I'm not much of a comic book person (never read a Spiderman comic) and loved it. The art style is truly original. It goes all-out with its multiverse premise and there are some down-to-earth moments to keep you from zoning out entirely. Maybe my favorite thing to come out of the whole Marvel empire in a decade.
Does it deserve the same rating as Princess Mononoke? No. But it's kinda in its own niche and there it's outstanding.
Personally, I'd say it's really that good. I'm a biased source as I generally have fun with comic book movies, but I've even heard some people who usually steer clear of those say they quite liked it. It's a movie where it's clear that a great amount of care and dedication was put into it, and the deeper you look the more of that you find. I'd highly recommend giving it a try.
8.4 actually seems low to me. I'm not into comics but I do enjoy superhero movies, and Spiderverse is in a league all by itself. The story is solid, the characters have depth, the jokes are well timed, and the animation is exquisite. I do not say this lightly, I went to school for 3d animation in the early 2000s and although I don't work in that industry I know what good and bad animation looks like. Spiderverse is not just "good" animation, it is a joy to watch.
The animation is stunning and has pushed the field forward in a landmark way. I'm a sucker for design related stuff so I think the movie is worth watching just on those merits. Story wise, it's nothing special, but much better than your average comic book movie
Like the others, I'm biased, but my wife who doesn't like comics really enjoyed the movie. I think it's worth watching just for the animation, which is pretty different from a lot of what's out there.
It's a comic book movie that fully embrace its comic book heritage.
It's art style is, well, comic book-like instead of going for photorealism, but through different characters there's also different comic book style (classic american book, eighties darkness, manga... Too bad there no franco-belgian ligne clair style).
The plot is about multiverses, a very comicbook thing. It does leave the door open for a sequel (and indeed we have one now), but doesn't scream "HEY I'M PART ONE OF A FRANCHISE" or doesn't relies extensively on pre-existing knowledge.
It does stuff with the framing and editing that's particularly well suited for animation and would be "too CG" for movies.
So uh yeah, it's a good one.
It’s great to see movies being advertised this far off in advanced again. Now that studios are confident that there aren’t gonna be delays anymore.
