Chill early morning albums?

Anyone have any good stuff to put on for just a chill weekend morning?

My usual go-tos are
-Salad Days and 2, Mac Demarco
-Wakin On a Pretty Daze, Kurt Vile
-Random Spotify jazz playlists
-What's Going On, Marvin Gaye
-A couple of Wilco albums

What do you guys like to play to start off a morning right?

Wow, I'm not sure I could take Penitentiary Philosophy early in the morning. That song and much of the rest of that album overwhelm me even when my brain is at 100%!

It does get somewhat overwhelming but after listening to it hundreds of times it has a familiar tone that I like in the morning.

Listening to Stakes is High and I love it for a morning vibe. I routinely come back to A Tribe Called Quest for morning stuff when I need to just absolutely groove to the rhythm while getting stuff done. Have a good friend that swears by them for getting into a flow state when mountain biking and I agree that good hip hop is great for that sort of mentality.

P.S. Still can't hyperlink on this site lol

I actually have few favorite to achieve flow state when it comes to running dinner service. I totally identify with that theory being chef and basically having to hit that flow state on a regular basis to perform on the job.

Allah Las is another favorite for the morning. They are great lazy morning surf rock.

Also, Salad Days is an awesome pick!

I had never thought of surf rock for the morning! That's fantastic. I can see the jazz influences here too. You might like The Flowers of Romance by Mouse on the Keys.

Perfect, will definitely give them a listen. Surf rock stuff is fantastic for a nice sunny morning with some Beatles thrown in as well imo.

We've recently gotten into chillhop, so either YouTube or Spotify will do for that; ChilledCow and Steezy are both pretty good collectors of lofi chillhop. It's just so mellow.

Only found out about ChilledCow last night though and I'll definitely be looking into that more and probably toss it on at some point this morning.

Man, ChilledCow is my mothafuckin jam at the moment. I'm actually listening to a Spotify playlist featuring a lot of their tracks. It's the best thing with a cup of coffee.

Big Calm by Morcheeba (sample track)
Music Has The Right to Children by Boards of Canada (sample track)
Selected Ambient Works Vol 2 by Aphex Twin (entire album)

But to be honest I usually put the radio on in the morning. BBC Radio 6 Music is fantastic. No adverts, very limited playlists (in the sense presenters play what they want, not that you get the same ten tracks all day long) and the DJs are all passionate and knowledgable about music - there's an equal chance to turn on to all eight and a half minutes of Kashmir, achingly beautiful music from First Aid Kit or the most recent Tiga and Clarian track - and anything and everything inbetween. Streams worldwide, 24/7, for free.

Also Selected Ambient Works is a fantastic album on the couple of listens I've done but I've never really listened enough for it to make it into my rotation consistently. Will have to give it another listen.

I've taken to listening to the Yuru Camp OST in the morning if i'm too sleepy for my normal music. It's got really interesting instrumentation and it's generally nice and comfy. Check it out

    John Martyn - Solid Air

Those two are sort of coupled in my mind because their styles are similar.

I've only listened to Pink Moon, but it's for sure one of my favorites. I'll have to check out the others. Are they pretty similar thematically to Pink Moon?

I like trance in the mornings, so I'll often pull up the latest A State of Trance, or just a trance radio on di.fm.

Nice, I work out to trance stuff sometimes but haven't thought to work it in as a morning sort of genre. I'll definitely check out di.fm though, I didn't know this existed.

I've been subscribed to di.fm for years now, great place to get radio for nearly any obscure sub-genre of electronic you might be into. I find like the Vocal Trance and Melodic Progressive trance stations a lot, and later in the day I'll jam to some Hardcore or catch a DJ Mix. Their partner site Sky.fm (I guess its RadioTunes now?) has a good variety of non-electronic stations as well.

No, actually, not that. I actually listen to a lot of atmospheric/drone stuff. I'd probably recommend the ambient tracks off Goths by the Mountain Goats orrr The Disintegration Loops by William Basinski.

For awhile there in Fall/Winter I started every day with the Bladerunner 2049 soundtrack but maybe You've Always Meant So Much To Me by Wrekmeister Harmonies would be a better recommendation? I can talk ambient weird stuff for hours.

I personally am a fan of Music For Happiness - Joey Pecoraro. It's a very relaxed album, and pulls in great suggestions if your music service lets you start radio stations from albums.
