Divided Supreme Court Rejects Bid for Religious Charter School in Oklahoma
I find the recusal interesting and wonder what the takeaway here is for groups that want to use government funds for religious schools. Will they take this as a signal not to try and escalate again for fear of getting a precedent against them, or that they should try again in a way that sidesteps the facts of the Oklahoma courts ruling?
From a different article:
There's no telling how she would rule in a different case, but I expect someone will try again.
As Trumps Monetize Presidency, Profits Outstrip Protests
Trump should be careful about upending norms too much, or he should really prioritize ending democracy, because if Democrats sweep the next elections, they could use his own play-loose-with-the-rules playbook and nail him and his family to the wall without going through the courts like they did during Biden's presidency.
In the words of The Expanse's Secretary Avasarala:
Dems would not be able to do this because we do not have media support. Have you noticed that even on "liberal" media it seems like Dems can't do anything or get their message out? How Dems are held to different standards? Oligarchical control of the media, baby. One of the foundations in the fascist wall.
Sources contradict Trump narrative about Qatar offering plane as ‘gift’ (CNN)

This story follows the classic Trump pattern.
Often two or three additional, conflicting reasons are given, and the media argues about those too. Then the illegal thing just happens because there is another scandal to use up the news cycle.
He can’t legally accept the jet. It was never going to be used as Air Force One.
It also doesn’t matter that the jet is old and has been on the market for a long time.
It also doesn’t matter that it’s a weird and tacky jet.
It's a weird boondoggle because Trump wasn't satisfied with Air Force One for no good reason. My guess is that eventually the plan will be abandoned as unworkable.
It doesn’t have a gold toilet or something like that. It’s weird that he is always so worried about appearances, but he has very poor taste and is constantly doing embarrassing things that would cause a typical person to hide in shame. And he sloppily puts on orange makeup. His support is endlessly confusing to me.
I remember early in his first term that he called The White House a dump. It probably bothers him that it contains historical reminders about people who were better than him in every way.
He's probably one of those people that don't want a used house.
In the ongoing saga of the Trump admin trying to destroy anyone smarter than him:

I figured I'd put it here since, well. It's difficult to seperate it from US politics: Small plane crashes into San Diego neighborhood, setting homes and vehicles on fire (APNews)
Airplane crashing season is back, which, well, Musk cut out a lot of workers from the already stretched avian security. If anything, it's been sometime since once happened and it's impressive how much of the infrastructure keeps working despite it.
It's absolutely horrible what's happening in that neighbourhood of San Diego... Families of the residents and those who were on the plane are, of course, having their life thorn apart while those responsible for it getting this bad are not seeing consequences any time soon.
We will have to wait for the investigation's findings, but it seems doubtful that this has anything to do with air traffic control.
Jesus, I think I'm really needing to take a break from being in the loop given how I'm jumping to conclusions.
Thanks for correcting me here.
nonono, this is the internet. We double-down here. Get it right! :)
I'll put this in a reply to you so I can say I agree.

Also, the crash happened at 4am, which I'm sure doesn't help. There's a control tower, but it doesn't operate at night.
Most crashes are due to a combination of factors; this is known as the Swiss cheese model. But ultimately it's the pilot's responsibility to decide if conditions are good enough to land at an uncontrolled airport. Perhaps there were other factors like the airplane's maintenance.
