What is going on with the Epstein files?
I try looking things up, but it’s apparently common news-site practice these days to try to tie things to other news (Gaza, civil liberties, etc), which I don’t want to know about as I’m on a news diet. (If you know of a site that does maybe a weekly newsletter of only the top two things to know about the week that’s passed, please let me know.)
So re the Epstein files: Are they released? Are they going to be released? What’s in them? Is this thing about Putin having compromising photos of Trump true?
I got you homie imma catch you up
To stick to basics: the "files" is in reference to all of the material the federal government has about Epstein, his network of clients and associates, and their dealings/depravity. They have not been released, in the sense no comprehensive record has been put out by the federal government, unredacted and without interference. Folks expected it because it was an explicit promise Trump made when he was campaigning, that folks would be given the info along with JFK and MLK and some other stuff. They've done some here and there but it's been a poor showing, with obvious effort to obscure what connections the president had to the people involved as well as what Epstein was up to. More has come from folks leaking stuff and as pressure builds the federal government is acting more desperately. Just recently congress let out a trove of emails that are so on the nose terrible that it's got folks across the politics saying, basically, "just fucking do it already". Folks believe the admin less and less, congress is doing dumb shit to avoid releasing stuff, it is both the biggest and dumbest coverup.
You can go way deep on it by checking out Whitney Webb's site, Unlimited Hangout if you like. She's been going through it for quite a while. It's way bigger than just Trump - the whole of the western empire might buckle, hard, if the full picture gets assembled. What little credibility remains in our political systems/aristocrats will pretty much vaporize and who knows what happens then. Have fun!
You have likely followed this closer than I have, but I can't help but be doubtful of this, specifically in the US. How much of that sentiment is a type of "someone will finally come and save us" hope? Isn't it basically expecting the same rotting institutions we are so fed up with to suddenly properly function and course-correct history? There's a LOT of investment in the status quo. I can see a lot of famous people being "cancelled," retiring to private life, some possibly absconding to their private islands or fleeing to friendly countries, etc. Protracted court cases with tons of obfuscation, maybe a couple big showy sentencings to make examples to the public if we're lucky, while the offenders quietly get released early on parole for good behavior 18 months later. But some sort of moral reckoning, or system reset? Much less real justice? I doubt if there will be enough outrage to force partisanship out of the equation and enough integrity among the replacements to avoid a mere reshuffling of the deck. We've probably got scandal fatigue. The Panama Papers came and went. The Catholic Church is still churching. FIFA is still FIFAing. I don't know how many people even care that Edward Snowden is still living in Russia. I've been heartened by some of the recent protests but it feels like we aren't collectively as angry, nor engaged, as we should be.
I'd love to be proved wrong though. Maybe things might turn out differently outside of the USA, at least.
I can definitely agree with the uncertainty. I'd imagine a turning point more likely than a breaking point, and even that might be one only for future historians to identify.
Re: that last sentence, it's true.
Re: the other guys outside of the west, I'm betting it's the same.
Blackmail, coverup, lies and evidence that our institutions stopped functionally doing their jobs about 15 years ago.
These guys created a searchable dump
https://couriernewsroom.com/news/we-created-a-searchable-database-with-all-20000-files-from-epsteins-estate/
Unfortunately they didn’t connect an LLM to it so its pretty basic term-search.
I searched for Obama just as a litmus test, cause he’s not involved, and theres a ton of really boring references to him just because he was the president at the time. Was a good litmus test imo, helped me get my bearings that a lot of these files are super boring and only have meaning as part of the larger story.
Given the context of these files, I find that to be a positive. last thing we need is to cast any doubts on hallucinations or other signs lacking authenticity.
Someone did, with plans to open-source it once they perform some cleanups:

Having already prayed to God for the first time in 30 years, I'll now address Mr. Putin:
Hello sir. I know it's not mine to give away, but I'm pretty sure the world will be cool with you having Ukraine and like 3-5 other countries of your choosing if you have the original photo and plaster it on every billboard in the world. Especially if Bubba is in fact Bill Clinton, because that would just be perfection.
Please and thank you.
The saddest part is that Trump blowing a dude is way worse than diddling a kid to MAGA.
Agreed, who cares about this specific thing (except that it’s Kompromat) but MAGA will find it worse.
Over the next few decades a constant stream of Trump’s crimes and other activities will be revealed. There’s nothing about him that would surprise me.
It’s one of the reasons I’m so completely furious that he was even able to run for president. He’s obviously had skeletons in the closet since at least the 1980s. A functional/less corrupt Republican Party would have never accepted him as a candidate, and informed voters would have never picked him (TWICE!!!)
How many presidential scandals involving Bill Clinton getting head can one country possibly have?
Some have been released. I believe those came from the Epstein estate.
More are being held by the US Department of Justice. Congress is currently scheduling a vote re requesting that those be released.
