My biggest thought here is that working for Red Bull F1 seems like a toxic nightmare and if you're not a generational talent who can be great from the word go you're in constant danger.

Daniel Ricciardo will make a shock in-season Formula 1 comeback with AlphaTauri from next week's Hungarian Grand Prix, replacing the ousted Nyck de Vries.

    • Do you think Nyck got a fair chance at Alpha Tauri? He's underperformed, but only had 10 races
    • Will Daniel be able to get results in that car? Has he gotten over the problems that led to his McLaren exit?
    • What can this mean about the Red Bull / Alpha Tauri lineups for next season?

I think the car is a huge issue at Alpha Tauri, but throwing rookie drivers in both seats (yes, Tsunoda isn't a rookie any more, but his performance still shows how green he is in that seat) only hurts the team more. The team needs feedback from their drivers to improve the car, and we know Tsunoda won't be giving anything other than angry shouts back to the garage. Riccardo will be able to provide much needed feedback.

I think we're in for a shakeup at Red Bull next year. Perez has had some amazing recoveries, but he shouldn't be starting so far down the grid that a recovery is necessary. I have doubts that they will move Riccardo from Alpha Tauri to Red Bull at the end of the season, but you never know.

Anyway, Red Bull is a ruthless work environment, unless you are a product of the youth program, you succeed or you die. The move is not really surprising. Before the season started it was common knowledge that the management had some doubts on De Vries. Even if Daniel is not as fast as he was he will give precious feedback to the engineers. Or so they think.

For a team that at times feels like they have half of F2 on their academy payroll, their programme feels disjointed. Alpha Tauri as a clear cut "secondary team" is a luxury that other teams seldom have, and yet, they chew through talent like there's no tomorrow. That's great for the grid, as right now I believe a significant portion of the drivers went through the RB Academy programme, but that must not be sustainable for RB.

They need someone in that Alpha Tauri to aid with car feedback urgently, and I don't know why they thought Nyck was the right choice for that. There is an air of insurmountable pressure coupled with rushed decisions that doesn't sit right with me when it comes to modern RB.

I don’t think Nyck got a fair cop but this is F1, that’s a long list. Plus you have to remember he was a F2 and FE champion, I would assume higher expectations due to that fact. I have faith that...

I have faith that the McLaren was just tough to tame. Will see how well he gets on with what isn’t really a fast car to be honest.

Perez still has contract with RB for next year, but I bet he has already started to sweat.

Not a surprise about De Vries - he was well known to not be up to F1 standard. Great to see Ricciardo back - I suspect if he does well (within the limits of what the poor AlphaTauri permits) then...

Great to see Ricciardo back - I suspect if he does well (within the limits of what the poor AlphaTauri permits) then Perez might be out on his arse at some point given he is not supporting Max nor the team well currently, and it is all self-inflicted.

All the Nick de Vries stuff aside, I do think it's kinda dumb that Danny Ric had a seat at Haas if he wanted it but turned it down because he didn't want to drive for a back marker team and he ended up in a junior team car. Like we could've skipped all of this and MAYBE got a few more points in the Haas (although Hulk is killing it)

I'm a Guenther Steiner stan so I'd love to see Haas do well, but honestly I'm really glad we get both Danny and Hulkenberg on the grid, I like them both.

Lawrence Baretto tweeted that Daniel got to drive the 2023 RB for the first time today in some Pirelli tire testing and had times that would have put him on the front row at Silverstone. We’ll see about race day conditions but this has to unsettle Perez and I’m hopeful he can use the fuel to energize himself.

I really think they're going to go outside their drivers program and lure someone in from another team.

This is what I think too. I don’t think there’s anyone I see in the Red Bull program right now that I can see in that seat in the future.

Who's nuts enough to think they can beat Max in equal machinery? Oh god. Imagine Charles alongside Max. or Lewis.

My thoughts exactly haha. Very happy to have in back in a seat. Will be interesting to see how he performs, I'm not overly hopeful but it will be fun to watch.

I don't know or care what set of circumstances have led to it, we got Daniel back.

I heard that was the case when he started again with them, because of some poor habits from mclaren, but that he's been doing a lot better on the sim recently. I still believe he has the potential! I guess these next dozen or so races will be his chance to prove himself again. Maybe he can catch that 2016 magic again
