Much unlike communication at RBR! I love that GP has the confidence to argue respectfully with Max. That is one of the best driver / engineer pairings I've seen in some time.
How do you all feel about sprints? Kind of torn on them. On one hand I enjoy that there is always something going on, but being in the US, keeping track of the timing and events can be hard. I...

On one hand I enjoy that there is always something going on, but being in the US, keeping track of the timing and events can be hard. I missed FP1 and Quali just because I forgot it was a spring weekend.
I agree. Still not a huge fan of them at all, but it is better now that the sprint race doesn't set the starting grid for the actual race. I would like to see it be it's own mini-series. Keep the...

I would like to see it be it's own mini-series. Keep the lesser points, but make it a Sprint Championship and not have the points affect the Drivers & Constructors Championship standings.

While I enjoy watching more racing, seeing the same predictable result isn't. I think for now, while Red Bull remains ultra dominant, a reverse grid like in F2 and F3 would make sprints more interesting. Once the dominance stabilizes, the reverse grid could be removed.

That being said, I do prefer the sprint shootout over the old version. But that's mostly because I'm still bitter about not getting to watch KMag start a race in 1st last year.
I’m pretty neutral on them. I don’t think the shorter race contributes anything. It would be interesting if they used much softer sets of tires to shorten their stints and force some strategy or...

I’m pretty happy with normal Saturday quali and Sunday Grand Prix though.
I know I may well be jumping the gun here, but I think Piastri will get a race win before Norris does (neither will be this year, of course). His form as a rookie is pretty remarkable.

I kinda think so too. It's be interesting to think about what Piastri would be like in an RB. If he'd basically be like Max just run away with P1 by multiple tens of seconds.

Fun race, with lots of overtakes. Too bad the little bit of rain didn't affect the race much. Idk, I always enjoy rain races. Need to break out those sprinklers! See you all in Zandvoort (well,...

That was close for Max in Q2; almost didn't make it out as the track was getting faster and faster due to it drying off. But by Q3, Max is on top by 8/10 over Leclerc. Glad to see both Mclarens in...

But by Q3, Max is on top by 8/10 over Leclerc.
Glad to see both Mclarens in P6 and P7, Piastri outqualifying Norris. And Perez made it to Q3 (P3) once again.
With Max's 5-grid penalty for taking a new gearbox beyond the allowance, Leclerc starts P1.
Max almost going out in Q2 was really unexpected. With the gearbox penalty that would have put him about where he started last year. Knowing that he does so well at the track, I'm wondering if he...

The news coming out of Alpine has me wondering what their goal is for the rest of the season. Damage management or focusing on next year's design?
Any context for Mclaren's performance? I haven't had a chance to watch quali yet. This should be a good circuit for them. Did they get caught out by track conditions?

Mark Hughes (best reason to listen to The Race F1 podcast) was saying that Mclaren haven't had time to develop a true low downforce wing for their current car. So they used the best wing they could knowing that in rain it would keep their rear end planted. The first stint on medium was bad because the interactions of traffic and aero package meant on the straights Norris was being eaten alive and in corners he couldn't capitalize on the speed he had with cars in front. They switch to to the hard to get him into open air but the tire was not working. So when the rain started coming they decided softs with the wing they had would be able to manage through the forecast and get Lando into open air. The wing and temp was also favorable to extend the soft through the end of the race.
Hopefully they get a wing developed through the break. They'll need it in Monza.
Makes sense at this track since you don't have to go back around to get into the pits. I would have loved to hear GP radio Max and tell him that pushing that hard was worth nothing.

I like the new format with separate shootout for sprint so it doesn't mess the race. Before I wasn't a fan.

Damn. That is a good idea. I have no idea why that did not occur to me sooner.
Thanks!

Man what was Aston Martin thinking sending out Stroll on slicks in SQ2? That was almost Ferrari meme level stupid.
If they were set on making that gamble, they should have done it with Alonso. Let Stroll take the safe strategy.
Don't you worry, the birthday boy still had the chance to crash!
Oh, Aston.. To think I was rooting for them at the start of the season...

Lando said post-quali that they are lacking straight line speed.
That's unfortunate I wonder why those chose this set up for Spa. Straight line was their strength in Silverstone.

Race is in an hour now, Max starts 6th, Leclerc on pole. I bet Max takes the lead by the lap 15. Feel free to drop your predictions too.
You're optimistic! I'd give it 8 laps.
EDIT: You were two laps off, fair play. And fuck me, that was brutal to watch
Pretty close! Lap 17 to take P1 away from Checo. Now let's see what the rain does...
Hamilton is finishing the fastest lap in 4th, and Verstappen is back in the garage. Yeah, that about sums it up.
