Don't really think they're going to win, but they're fun to watch. I'd like to see England have a nice showing on the international stage. Watching Mexico upset Germany was fun.

I'm not a huge sports person, but my favorite teams are the Tampa Bay Lightning (Hockey), the UCF Knights, and the Clemson Tigers (both in American Football).
I'm still a bit bitter that the Knights weren't in the NCAA playoffs last year, but I absolutely love that they've declared themselves the national champions as a way of giving the middle finger to the committee.

I love UCF's self-declared National Championship. I personally don't think they deserved to be in the playoffs, but I think that's more of a reflection of the flawed playoff system that we currently have. I like the idea of a 6-team playoff with a guaranteed G5 team if they're in the top 15 of the AP poll (or something like that).
Personally, I think they should've taken Alabama's place in the playoffs (seriously, no team that wasn't Alabama would have made it into the playoffs at all coming off of that embarrassing loss to...
Personally, I think they should've taken Alabama's place in the playoffs (seriously, no team that wasn't Alabama would have made it into the playoffs at all coming off of that embarrassing loss to Auburn), but I do agree that more than anything it's a reflection of how bad the playoff system is. If a team can't get into the playoffs no matter how well they do, then what's the point of them even being in the running for that division? If the playoffs are really the P5 playoffs, then they should call it that instead of the Division I playoffs.
Personally I think a 16-team playoff would be ideal, though that might be too many games to be realistic. Put in the top 16, or the top 15 and the top-ranked G5 team if they aren't in the top 16.
The issue with expanding the playoff too much is that it devalues the regular season. College football is the only major sport where each week is essentially a playoff game. It's really hard to...
The issue with expanding the playoff too much is that it devalues the regular season. College football is the only major sport where each week is essentially a playoff game. It's really hard to recover from one loss (and near impossible for two losses). I agree that the current system is really unfair to G5 teams.

I think it's fairly typical for the best one or two conferences to get some slack. For instance, it's happened with the Big 10 lately. The SEC has had a really great run as the one of the best two football conferences. Eventually, the cycle will continue and we'll be complaining about how some other conference is getting too much benefit of the doubt.
The issue is that the system also makes it impossible to recover from being a team that hasn't historically been good. The rankings end up being as much about popularity as they do wins. All four...

The issue is that the system also makes it impossible to recover from being a team that hasn't historically been good. The rankings end up being as much about popularity as they do wins. All four of the playoff teams had recovered from a loss (if you can count Alabama not dropping out of the top four after their loss as a recovery), whereas UCF had no losses to recover from and didn't make it anywhere near the top four.
Even if it devalues the regular season more, I'd rather see a larger playoff. That way, the champion is more representative of who was actually the best team in the league, not who was the best of the four teams that the committee thought would make a good show.
Definitely, that was a real shame. I was hoping either the Lightning or Vegas would take the cup, but it does certainly seem like the Capitals earned it this time.

Baseball is pretty much the only sport I follow with any intensity. I do root casually for the Knicks and NY Rangers, but I couldn't name more than one or two players on either team. In football I have a soft spot for the Saints after living in New Orleans for a few years.

Favorite sport is baseball, and my favorite team is the Atlanta Braves. Been a fan since I was born - grandparents lived in Atlanta and my grandfather supplied equipment to the team. He made sure I grew up a fan (and it was so nice to watch every game on TBS at the time).
For NFL I grew up a Redskins fan, but a few years under Dan Snyder's ownership caused me to jump ship. I landed on my #2 team, the Jacksonville Jaguars, but I have been watching less and less football recently. I'd be surprised if I watch more than a game or two this year. I find it hard to support with all of the data about head injuries and with the league seemingly covering up the problem.
Don't really have favorites in any other sports, although I do enjoy watching basketball and tennis.

Been a Knicks fan since the 99 playoffs. It's been downhill ever since.
I'm pretty hopeful about the future, though. Next season will be tough with KP out for most, if not all, of the season and we have a young squad. Who knows what we do at the draft or if we end up in some wonky trade.
Our main issue is ownership. James Dolan is the worst best owner in the league. He has the money and willingness to pay for a good squad but he puts his nose in the decision-making processes too often and he doesn't have the same basketball smarts as GMs in the league

Am Danish, so I support my local soccer team, Brøndby. We had a hell of a season but pissed away the championship in the most brutal fashion, suffering two late goals against the unfancied Horsens and bottling it at home to eventual winners FC Midtjylland. With our goalkeeper and star striker leaving, I'm sceptical that we'll be able to mount a title challenge next year, but coach Zorniger has been great so I'm trying to keep the faith.
Obviously also rooting for Denmark at the World Cup. We were lucky to beat Peru but I'm hoping we can squeak by Australia and make the round of 16. Doubt we'll go any further than that, but who knows ...
I've also got an inexplicable fondness for Glasgow minions Partick Thistle. Been on two pilgrimages to see them play and own about 13 jerseys and 300-odd match programmes and just about threw my computer across the living room when I watched them get relegated a month ago. I hate football :-(
As for US sports, I'm a Pens fan because I liked Mario Lemieux when I was a kid, a Pacers fan because my total absence of athleticism meant I only liked shooting 3's like Reggie Miller, a Cubs fan because I liked the fact that they never won (need to find a new baseball team) and a Packers fan because I enjoyed watching Brett Favre when I was getting into the sports. Ironically, I now far prefer watching defense-first teams which has made it hard to support the Dom Capers era Packers but I'm not so much of a football hipster that I can't appreciate Aaron Rodgers' greatness.
Nowadays I barely watch any other sports than soccer, though. A competitive, wildly complex fantasy Premier League game takes up most of my designated sports time during the week and like others have said, the NFL's treatment of head injuries makes it hard to watch football.

I follow a lot of sports, but of the ones currently in season, I'm a San Francisco Giants fan (Major League Baseball), rooting for Federer at Wimbledon, and pulling for Iceland in the World Cup because I'm convinced they're magical.
Iceland winning it sure would be crazy, but the first set of games haven't gone as expected either so who knows.

Increasing the size of a playoff tends to decrease the likelihood of the best team winning--there are more opportunities for randomness to kick in.
Glad to see another Lightning fan here! Hopefully we get a better ending to next season.

Hey, at least 2015 was pretty great!
Atlanta - Falcons, United, Hawks. Chicago Blackhawks
No Braves???
They must just like bird teams.
bird teams are best teams.
Nope. Grew up watching them, and slowly lost interest in baseball. Then they moved (I live a few exits from Turner) and I totally lost interest.
https://tilde.team of course! Seriously. It's been around since late 2017, is free to join, and is a lot of fun.
the only team for nerds :D
What drew you to support the Penguins as (I think it might be safe to assume) someone from Kansas?
