What did you do this week (and weekend)?
As part of a weekly series, these topics are a place for users to casually discuss the things they did — or didn't do — during their week. Did you accomplish any goals? Suffer a failure? Do nothing at all? Tell us about it!
Started first round of chemo. 1 down, 8 to go. Then radiation and finally surgery. Already ready for treatment to be over with.
I finally got around to finding a primary care physician. If I knew it was going to be so difficult I definitely would have started my search earlier. Most of the PCPs in my network are book so full that the earliest they could see new patients was spring 2024. Luckily I was able to find one with more availability but not until November! US healthcare is so broken. Anyway, this probably doesn't seem like much but I'm proud of myself for finally getting around to it.
This weekend the baby will be with Grandma so my partner and I will have some much needed time alone together.
I'm proud of you, for what it's worth. It's always a triumph when somebody prioritizes themselves, especially with health.
I'm right there with you, struggling to find a PCP that's in network and available soonish. My last PCP kept canceling/moving my appointments and it just felt like I wasn't really cared for after paying.
Hoping to find a PCP that I like by the end of the year. Wish me luck!
I had an exceptionally excellent weekend—I saw Barbie (fun!), went to Bite of Seattle and ate a lobster roll (tasty!), and saw Taylor Swift and experience a stadium cause measurable seismic activity (very fun!). We originally had plans the next day but instead we slept until noon, got burgers, and then fell back asleep until 7:00pm.
Watched barbie with my family. I didn't like the story very much, but of course the sets and costumes were to die for! Also, I made an appointment to see a new therapist. It's weird but I'm more excited about that than anything else. I'd been with my old therapist for 6+ years and while she is lovely I felt that I needed someone with a different specialization. Stoked to see what will come of it :)
I went to my first concert since the pandemic - Jimmy Eat World and Manchester Orchestra. It was outside, and I was masked up the entire time (despite the heat advisory).
It was good, but also really weird to be the only person in a mask.
I feel like the pandemic really underscored and enforced my latent introvert. Baby steps.
Last weekend was exhausting. My wife's birthday was on Sunday and my reservations fell through at the last minute so I had to scramble for a backup plan.
BUUUUTTT... time was limited. She only had 1 extra day off, so whatever we were going to do, it had to fit in between end of work on Friday and going to work Tuesday morning...
Then I remembered a trip we took to Disneyland... she wanted a side trip to Hollywood to find Rush's star on the Walk of Fame, but we couldn't make it, traffic conspired against us. :(
So I booked the Loew's Hotel, 1 block from the Walk of Fame and around the corner from the Chinese theater. We flew down, found the star, toured Hollywood Blvd., caught Barbenheimer. It was a good birthday!
Currently packing to move on Monday. Very stressful; my three year old is not sleeping well at home because of all of the changes.
I really hope my wife and I are doing the right thing. It's impossible to save up for a down payment for a house. We are moving to her parents' house upstairs so we can save up enough to afford a house. Tired of renting and the prices for rent around here are skyrocketing.
I feel like this is our best move long-term, but the short-term already feels pretty bad, and we haven't even stayed one night there yet.
I'm planning to catch up on administrative chores this weekend, but I'm also meeting someone I care about here, https://bonsailakemerritt.com/ and going out to eat. : )
Work. I feel like it's what I do every week.
In my evenings however I've been playing with Inkarnate.com and making maps for a D&D game I'm going to hopefully start hosting next month. I sent out an email to all the players with the pitch last night and I'm eagerly awaiting any response at all..
This weekend I'm probably going to see Barbie.
This is the first week in a few months where things slowed down for me. I got to spend time with family and treat them to dinner. My wife is finding early success in a new venture. I ended the week with a lot of gratitude from my team members. Now trying to just keep cool and relax into the weekend.
I nearly failed my LPIC 101 exam! I was talking to a boss at work who basically said "Yeah, just put it down, nothing motivates me like having it scheduled." We talked about failing stuff and I figured the worst thing that happened is I find weak points to grind out.
It scores from 200-800 with a passing score of 500, and psychometric/difficulty-based scoring weights. I got 520, and saved it by reviewing my exam and changing a handful of answers. My weakest point was command line questions because I was weak on all the commands and their flags. But I passed. I have to start studying for the LPIC 102 exam next.
I also switched my desktop's Linux distro from NixOS and Arch to OpenSuSE Tumbleweed with KDE. It's freaking great! It was easy to set up, but I nuked my previous btrfs subvolume based setup. I used OpenSUSE like 13 years ago and it was pretty slick, and I'm re-convinced that it's a great distribution. I also unfortunately found a package that needed fixing, but have a bug report on it now. I'm unfamiliar with RPM packaging, so I just submitted a bug describing the fix, since I sorta don't want to be in charge of any packages.
I also bought a Kirby Otamatone, I think the "original" size. It's one of those things I'm buying just for the object, but I love Kirby, and the idea of having an Otamatone, so it's perfect.
My nieces’ high school was putting on a summer production of Beauty and the Beast, so my wife and I both volunteered a few weeks building sets and running sound.
Opening night was tonight, they were fantastic!
It’s so cool to see kids grow into their characters, watching them add subtleties to their performance and learning to play off each other. The kids were seriously dragging Thursday night, rehearsing totally flat. Tonight comes, first of 4 shows, and they come out with so much energy.
I was teaching a girl how to run sound and it was so cool working with her. She picked it up quick and is really interested in continuing, I may offer to mentor her after the show is done. I have loved my career as an audio engineer and I love the idea of helping someone else start theirs.

@talklittle, this you? If so, did you mean to post in this topic, and double post?
Hmm, that is the account I gave to Google for testing, required before the app can be published on the Google Play Store. I didn't expect them to actually post comments using that account... Maybe there's a way I can instruct them to post under ~test only. Sorry for the noise.
Interesting. I had no idea they did that sort of thing either. And no worries, a bit of noise was worth learning you're one step closer to publishing your app. ;)
Besides, the irony is their comments are actually relevant to this topic since someone at Google clearly spent this week reviewing your app, and test posting to Tildes using it. So welcome to Tildes, mysterious Google employee using @ThreeCheersGoogTest! :P
