Kind of off-topic but at the bottom of the announcement blog post Mozilla is doing a T-shirt giveaway for early adopters, when I saw that last week I figured Tildes ReExtended works on Android, and luckily enough I was one of the first 200 so I'll be getting a free T-shirt out of it. Thanks Tildes! :D

I was about to give up on the android version yesterday before I realized that tampermonkey is available. Lack of extensions is one of the biggest complaints I always see from conversations.

I think Firefox Nightly and some Android forks enable you to have any extension on Android.

I'm pretty sure they've been available on the standard Firefox app from the play store for a long time now (over a year I think). I am not a beta tester and I appear to be on the standard version of Firefox. I know I've been using Dark Reader, LeechBlock, and uBlock Origin for a very long time.

I do know that support is not 1:1 with the desktop version, and only a few specific addons are supported. Could that be what you are thinking of?

My understanding is that you can't install any extension you want with nightly/beta, just the ones that are in the Mozilla Add-On site. One extension I've found most beneficial, Bypass Paywalls Clean, was removed from there because of some copyright/DMCA business as my understanding goes, so I've seen it repeated a few times that it cannot be installed with Firefox nightly.

BPC does have a combo blocklist for uBlock Origin and a companion user script install that works on Tampermonkey (and by extension, Firefox on Android) here. It's not quite as good as BPC on desktop, but it does the trick for the vast majority of paywalls I come across on my phone.

This is the one I'm most interested in. I've had to install KiwiBrowser to get it working on mobile. I wish there was a way to get it working on Firefox Mobile.

There's also steps to get the actual extension onto Firefox mobile, which doesn't seem terribly hard but still kinda annoying.

install an old version of Firefox (like v68.11.0 from archive.mozilla.org or apkmirror.com); first you have to remove your current Firefox app.

download add-on's xpi-file (custom version if you want to use custom sites) from releases and install/open in Firefox. now you can update Firefox to the latest version

add-on will stay active & automatically updates to the latest version

in add-ons it will be labeled as not yet available and also has no more option to enable the add-on in private browsing (in Firefox 116+ it may only show the option on automatic update of the add-on)

You can find the specific instructions/links on the gitlab page for the extension
                https://gitlab.com/magnolia1234/bypass-paywalls-firefox-clean

I'm tempted to try that one.

I’m glad they’re expanding official extension support. Now all I need is a decent interface for larger screen devices!
