It's a small thing, but browsing on mobile would be a bit smoother if there was an option to switch the "Comments" and "Actions" buttons under each post

Obviously it's a pretty small thing, but being able to jump in and out of threads easily while using my phone one-handed would be nice.

I'd love to have a "mirrored" mode, where the buttons like vote and minimize comment are on the right instead of the left

Yes! Exactly. It'd make the mobile website (which, kudos to the site that it is as usable as it is) completely navigable with one hand.

Only if you’re right handed! But since most people are, it makes sense. I find this a lot with mobile sites. If they’re designed by someone with big hands they don’t think about that issue at all.

Oh I never even thought about that but now that I've seen your comment, that would be amazing. I use vote and minimize links more often than reply, more, bookmark, and label.

The first thing i can think of is to move the 'time ago' stamp to thw left position, and then comments. This would make the comment button more central on the screen for all users, evening out ease of access for one handed use.

This would be an option so it wouldn't make things harder for anyone, but better for everyone. :)

Since we're on the subject of website tweaks... I have only one suggestion that has to do with consistency.

The links on the home page sometimes lead to this comment page, other times it's to an external site. There's no way of knowing unless you hover over the link, something you can't do on mobile.

It's not a huge deal but if there was an indicator (ie, image of 45 degree arrow indicating external site) it would help highlight that we might be leaving the site.

    https://ibb.co/2Ys6fgc

The link above is a screenshot of 4 links on the homepage.

URL 1: Links to tildes (internal) : It's a small thing, but browsing on mobile...

URL 2: links to bloomberg (external) : Twitter's dying. Time to drop...

URL 3: links to bbc (external) : Ocomtún: A long-lost Maya city...

URL 4: links to tildes.net (internal) : Horimiya: The Missing Pieces...

This is just a minor issue I've been wanting to point out.

The indications of whether you’ll be taken to an external link are: there isn’t a user name but a publication name (often with their logo); it says article (sometimes with word count)

That's not always true. Even for external link topics ~music and ~creative always shows the user who posted something, since they're "taste" based groups where knowing who submitted something is often more valuable to know than the site they're linking to, which are usually just YouTube/Bandcamp/Spotify/Imgur/etc.

The real indication is when you see 'Article', 'Video', or 'Link' topics, which all go to external sites since they are link topics. Whereas 'Text' and 'Ask' topics go to the comment section since they're text topics. Look for that info on the line under the topic title.

I agree this can be annoying, and I've gotten in the habit of just clicking "comments" because of it. However, that's fairly small text and I can see people with bigger hands than mine getting frustrated on mobile. And while there is an indication as others have noted, that also uses small text compared to the title.

I think one solution would be to give users a setting on whether posts with external links automatically open the link, or the post on Tildes. The post still has the link at the top anyway, so you can still open it from there.

I like this. It's better than the arrow suggestion I offered. The idea of clicking on the main link and always going to the comments page is appealing (I wonder how many users prefer to check comments first). From the comments page, launching the external url (if appropriate).

There's a comfort in knowing (muscle memory) that clicking a thing will always behave the same way.

Yeah that always annoyed me about old reddit too, it was the same problem.

It'd be nice if the header link either just opened the comments (and make the direct content link the small button instead), or just opened both at once.

I'm here for discussion, not to just click links.

I'm just learning that I guess I hold my phone differently than other people. I'm right handed but I hold my phone in my left hand. I just tried my right hand to make sure and yeah it felt really awkward. I think I do this because most of the time I hold with my right hand and click links and scroll with my right hand and swipe-to-type with only my right hand. Maybe also because if I'm going one handed its usually because I'm using my dominant hand (right) to do something else, so my phone is in my left hand.

The way you described using a phone is the way almost everyone uses a phone unless they have a small phone or big hands.

I have a small phone by most standards (Pixel 5) and I'd love all these features everyone is recommending, but that's really only because I can use my phone with one hand for virtually any phone use with ease.
