Views on over-posting?
Hi Tildians,
As a chronic over thinker, I just realized I have held off of sharing a number of cool space articles to ~space because I didn't want to spam posts and couldn't decide which one was cooler.
So, I figure I should ask: what's our consensus on over-posting? Is there such a thing? Should I just let my adhd loose and share all the cool space news I see?
I wouldn't sweat it. This community wouldn't exist in its current form without awesome people posting what they wanted to share. And I'll always be up for some space news!
If you ever feel like there's too much to post, you could make a weekly megathread for yourself, maybe. Something like "The Aerrol Hour, available on-demand every week!" lol
Personally I prefer if it's posted as separate threads. But weekly is still good. Imho ~space is already there to group them and if they are high quality they deserve their own space* and attention.
*Believe it or not, no pun intended.
Looking at ~space, there are definitely not too many topics. We don't even have an article every day!
Personally, I think even ten a day would not be too many, if they're high quality. (Except that it's doubtful that there is that much interesting space news in a day.)
I agree. I wouldn't be offended by a little more volume.
OP: some of us don't have the time or energy to source and post great content. I wouldn't dream of being annoyed at someone else taking that initiative.
Mr. Brian of Sky for example is a sign post along the road of quality content. I get excited to see his name on posts.
just post and we'll tell you if/when its too much. After a few days you'll get an idea of how many posts and which topics are getting the best response / interest from the community. My guess is that it'll be two or three a day, but it could be more... and it might get others into posting more frequently, too.
Space!!
Try a Cool Aerrol Weekly Space (CAWS) thread ? Then you can spam top level comments on as many as you want for each cool thing you want to share. Weekly is most definitely NOT too many, and it'll be extremely easy for the odd space hating person to hit Ignore once a week.
I'd like to submit my subscription application for your space newsletter
Seconded to the newsletter subscriptions!
Depending on how technical you want to get, Moon Monday is an incredible free blog on all-things Lunar. Jatan is almost impossibly up to speed on global Lunar research and I am so appreciative of the work he does.
Not gonna lie, if not for this post, I wouldn't have even realized that those posts are all from the same person and would've thought "wow, there are a lot of space news lately". I usually don't look at who posted or wrote something, and either way there are only like 5 usernames at most I recognize here (and half of them are admins)
Please do, that way it dilutes the activity feed with how often I post. In fact, more of us should be doing this to dilute the share of posts I make on here. Please, I beg of you, this would make me feel so much better. This is a win-win for both of us @Aerrol.
I don't think any (or at least not many) people would care about 2 or 3 in a short period unless you're doing it constantly. Much more than that and it's probably going to be a bit much given the overall level of activity here. I don't think it's even necessarily a "spam" thing as much as you'd just get fewer people engaging on each thread.
Okay, thanks for the encouragement everyone! Expect a wave of posts soon!
(...oh God I appear to have set the false expectation that I'll do this regularly instead of sporadically as the mood strikes me...)
No worries, we have an extremely high percentage of people here who cant do regular commitments, only sporadic bursts. You'll fit right in
I don't believe that you are, but if you feel like you are posting too much adding lots of accurate tags is a way to help people filter it out.
Please post them!! I love that I get insight into different Tildeans' hobbies from what they post to the different boards (e.g. @cloud_loud's movie news posts)
Moar Space please!
I read a lot of space exploration and rocket tech articles ... I should be sharing more of it here, as well.
Just at a glance, I see we had 6 space articles in the entire month of November (to date). That seems (to me, at least) extremely low. I would like to be an average of at least one-a-day.
Pretty sure you get rate limited if you truly go overboard. Even then please do and try to get rate limited. The site can always use volume.
