But first Black man to win Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series? That feels a bit late.

Astounding performance. Very glad he earned the award.

Agreed. He has so much range in that show. I was glad he won. There was a lot of competition in that category.

Agreed, I really appreciated Tramell Tillman especially in season 2, and he did a marvelous job in a multifaceted role. Britt Lower was also so deserving, and I'm delighted that she won - while all of the actors playing severed employees needed to act for two, she was precise to the point where Helly and Helena even walked noticeably differently. Amazing!

I was also so happy to see Jeff Hiller win - Joel was the soul of Somebody Somewhere for me, and I'm delighted to see him (and the show) get some acknowledgement.

Watching this reminded me that I haven’t really watched a lot of TV since the pandemic.

The only show I’ve seen in full is The Studio, and that’s because I appreciate it as an insider baseball thing (not that I work in the industry I’m just uber familiar with it). I’ve seen some of The Pitt and some of The Penguin. I haven’t seen Hacks since its first season back in 2021, I only watched a few episodes of The Bear and Severance’s first seasons. I think I’ve maybe seen Only Murders in the Building’s third season but I’m mostly checked out of that series.

The only thing I was sort of rooting for was last week during the Creative Arts Emmys where Rebel Ridge won for TV movie a year after its release, because that film is unreal.

I am so detached from TV as a medium now and I don’t know why.

I'm someone that enjoys a lot of classic TV (The Dick Van Dyke Show and Columbo are some of my favorites), so I appreciate The Pitt's more classical structure rather than the late 2010's model of prestige dreck we've gotten. I'm sure I'll get around to watching it in full one day.

What does classical structure mean here? Like it’s episodic rather than season arc, or?

Probably the wrong thing to use with The Pitt specifically because it's borrowing 24's structure (which even then at this point that's from a bygone era). But in terms of pacing and drama it moves at a pace closer to how TV used to, whereas I think a lot of more modern Dramas tend to take everything slower and drawn out. Like if they were stretching the material of a film over the course of like 8 episodes. Whereas The Pitt actually feels like a television show.

That's fair. I suppose it helps if you like realism in your TV viewing. Either way, I hope you enjoy the rest when you get back to it!

TV had a bit of a lull for a few years compared to the highs of 2013-2015 but I feel like it's starting to come back. There's a lot of B+ stuff out there, but we're still missing a water cooler show. I think The Pitt has the best chance to be that show when it returns.

There are a lot of things worth watching, but of all the winners and nominees tonight, I think Adolescents is the one mandatory watch. The performances are excellent, the story is gut wrenching, and it's a British show so there isn't any filler. You can knock it out in a few hours and have plenty of time left over for therapy!

Also, if you appreciate the comedy in The Studio, you might enjoy Platonic. Like The Studio, it has a continuous plot, but it does have some of that old school TV vibe where each episode has its own thing. I wouldn't be surprised if Rose Byrne got a nomination for her role in it next year.

My guess is that i watch about an hour of all media after dinner before bed, ans theres way too much colbert / fantastic anime / not nearly enough time, and society is dark enough right now i have nearly no toletance for fictional worlds in trouble filled with injustice and hurt.

Surprised I'm not seeing more discussion about Adolescence. As much as I loved some of the other big winners like The Studio and Severance, Adolescence is the show that will stick with me for years to come. It's heavy and gut wrenching, particularly if you have young children, but the performances are phenomenal and the cinematography is low-key amazing: it's no surprise it took best limited series, won 3 of the 4 acting awards, and won best cinematography. It's truly an amazing piece of work.

IMDB has it at 8.1/10 which yeah, that's up there, but for example Andor sits at 8.6 and The Pitt sits at 8.9. Approaching a 9/10 score on IMDB is very rare meanwhile ~8/10 is really quite common for tv shows.

I quite liked it. But this is one of those things where the industry is awarding something about the industry. The characters are heavily based on real well-known film executives. Rogen’s character is heavily based on Tom Rothman and Steve Asbell. And Catherine O’Hara’s character is just Amy Pascal.

      It’s very very insidery.

I am Luke warm on Seth Rogen, but this felt like a passion project where he got a big blank check to make something he loved with a bunch of friends and it was ambitious and came out great.
