Great recommendations but man does it hurt even pulling someone else into the world of Kvothe. Rothfuss and Martin are why I abjectly REFUSE to start an unfinished series no matter how good it is...

Just finished the Broken earth series by N.K. Jemisin and really enjoyed it. Main character was a case study in how your environment shapes how you view yourself and how your personality develops when dealing with those society considers "normal".

Also ran through the first few books of the Red Rising sage before I got tired of the Mary Sue main character being an idiot despite being the best at everything.

Now I'm working my way through the Unhewn Throne trilogy and it's been good thus far, but some of the plot-demanded stupidity of the main three characters has been annoying. Might take a break and get back into my run through of Discworld after this book (the 2nd in the trilogy)

Iron Eagle was my shit. I used to emulate the main character by throwing on headphones to "get into the zone" for video games lol

I had a Samsung smartwatch that went belly up after less than 6 months of gentle wear so I'm sticking with the tried and true, nigh indestructible Casio that (imo) looks great and performs even better.

WEC, IMSA, DTM, and WRC could always use your love, too! None of them are perfect, but it seems like the top fuckery is reserved for the "top" of the sport.

Center of the US here and our winters are a joke compared to the past, but the summers have gotten longer and hotter. Weeks and weeks in a row of 38°C/100°F+. It's essentially in the 80s to 100s from mid-May through the end of September. Spring and Fall are about a week each now. It's absolutely miserable. If it were economically feasible, I'd head north just for the climate. (not to mention the politics lol.)

For my choice of bingeable (and I usually do a annual run through of both) I'd recommend W.E.B. Griffin's The Brotherhood of War series and The Corps series. Both are historical fiction and absolutely nail the vibe of the military. His characters are almost always landed gentry of America, independently wealthy, and in the service by choice but they're never unlikeable. Both are great series and I'd recommend them to anyone.

I admit the scale intimidated me away. Feels like a proper commit rather than something I can pick up and put down as life dictates.

Loved the series. I was amped to try his other work but it didn't feel the same and I gave up after one book. Seriously, though, Codex Alera is a great popcorn series.

That said, we almost never make it out of Costco with less than a cart-full and it's easier for us to just get it done at a manned register.

At the end of the day, someone is going to have to try and salvage the sanctity and purity of the sport in the face of bottomless bank accounts, and that seems almost impossible.

I'm alternating books between The Bone Ships trilogy (by RJ Barker) and the Power Mage trilogy (by Brian McClellan). Both are excellent, I'd say the Power Mage series is a little more "action-movie" but both have very well written characters and are almost like historical-fiction fantasy as both tie into different bygone eras.

Also read the first Dresden Files book, Storm Front by Jim Butcher. Not sure if we have any MSTies in the crowd, but the book REALLY reminded me of Demon Squad and that made it hard for me to take seriously. Nothing bad about it, just not as good as the Codex Alera books (so far, the later books may be a bit better.)

Started Homeland by R.A. Salvatore, but found out I missed the window to enjoy it enough to finish it by some decades, so I gave it up.

Now I'm halfway through Lonesome Dove for the first time and, man, I don't know why I put it off for so long.
