I will admit that I didn't scald the milk like he says we should due to time pressure, and didn't notice anything go particularly wrong. So if you have a go and do follow that step I'd be interested in how it works for you.

I had a go a making donuts the other day. I mostly followed a recipe from Brian Lagerstrom. I didn't have time to make the jam and fill the donuts, but they were delicious unfilled.

Next time I'm going to make the donuts smaller, the suggested size was way to large for my tastes, so instead of cutting the dought into 9, I'll try cutting into 12 and see how they come out.

We use our bread maker a lot. A few of the replies are suggesting that you could learn to make bread by hand. Which isn't bad advice, but I've found that I use bread maker bread for different things Vs hand made bread. So to cut that long story short - why not do both!

As for advice for bread maker recipes:

    1. We've settled on a 50:50 wholemeal / white loaf, which for me really is the best of both. 200g white, 200g wholemeal, 5g salt (1tsp), 300ml water, 15g (1 tbsp) oil, 3g (3/4 tsp) instant yeast.
    2. If your bread machine recipe tells you to add sugar to the mix, try leaving it out. On our machine it makes no difference to how the bread rises, and you can avoid a little processed sugar, and the weird sweet bread flavour.
    3. If yout machine has a delay function, use it. Waking up to freshly baked bread is just wonderful. Prep the machine before going to bed, go to sleep, wake up, eat fresh bread. No effort, no fuss, just wonderful.
    4. You can get a slightly more developed crust on the bread for leaving the bread in the machine for 30mins after it tells you that it's done. Much longer than this and the bread gets wet and leathery. It will never rival a hand made sourdough crust, but it's something.

The EM drive has been independent tested a couple of times. And noone has been able to definitely prove a force greater than the margin of experimental error (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/EmDrive).

I remember when I first heard about this, I was extremely sceptical, and at the same time really excited. If the claims were true, it would have been truly revolutionary.

I've been trying to up my game with sauces. However, I'm still quite a long way from where I want to be. I've managed to get basic pan sauces nailed, but I struggle to take it much beyond that. I find that I lack the imagination to build an interesting sauce beyond a really good gravy.

If anyone has some good recommendations for resources that could help with imagination prompts I'd really appreciate some pointers.

A very simple solution could be to buy a few felt pads that you'd put on the bottom of chair legs and stick them inside the water bottle holder so the bottle and hard plastic don't make contact any more.
They are really cheap and are easily available from places like Amazon.
Depending on how much of a gap you have between the weather bottle and the holder, you could even layer them up to get a 'perfect' fit between the bottle and holder.

It sounds like you either need a stainless steel pan or a carbon steel pan.

Stainless (with an aluminium core) will conduct heat really well which will mitigate the hot spot problem. But they are not very non-stick (which can be a good thing if you're cooking meats).

Carbon steel will let you build up a non stick surface and will conduct heat better than a cast iron, but not as well as a stainless steel pan.

Both will be much lighter than cast iron.

I can't say anything about people wanting to bite babies... But I can offer a comment focusing on the emotional response aspect.

When I see parents with young children it reminds me of the time I had with my own. It's a very emotionally charged period, so it's possible that some of that energy just leaks out. I'm definitely more open about that energy with people that I know well, but will keep it contained with strangers.
