After reading far too many reddit adhd memes that seemed way too personal, I went and got diagnosed about six months ago. I think I have processed all the loss and grieving and could-have-beens, and now I am trying to make some growth happen. I have had a lot of success with meds with dealing with adhd paralysis and anxiety, so now I am trying to start addressing behavior and making healthy patterns.

I think it’s valid to question why someone can, and whether they should, spend 5-7 years of an average person’s income on an 2-3 day adventure. It’s good to ask: Is this kind of ability and choice to spend so much money on this moral and ethical? So I wouldn’t chalk that up to envy, but rather philosophical frustration.

I’d recommend a cast iron pan or three, have you ever used one? More even heat distribution, resilient, and non-stick. You can get a lodge cast iron pan for 35-50 bucks and try it out.

I found Baby-led weaning to be a lesser known idea (at least here in the US) and learned it's a healthy and inexpensive way to feed baby. It's more sustainable too. You don't need expensive pureed baby foods, or need to take time to make them at home. Basically, once baby is ready for solids, you give age-appropriate foods that you are already cooking in the home. Think avocado, scrambled eggs, banana, yogurt etc. for first foods, then gradually include more variety as baby grows. This gives baby lots of textures, they learn lots of new vitamin rich tastes, and helps them with coordination because baby learns to feed themselves. Check it out, highly recommend!

As far as registries go, you need half as much as society tells you, maybe less. Hand me downs are amazing for messy, fast-growing kiddos. Babies love simple toys, there's lots of info in RIE parenting groups (a respectful infant care perspective) about simple play areas for babies and toddlers that you can set up, these worked great for my kids.

Best of luck and sleep now, sleep you fool! For you will never truly know a sleep like that again once baby comes.

The beauty of each of us getting invites is that we can approach it in an individual way. I never said "tildes is too white", or too male, or too anything, but you heard that, and are having a negative reaction to my choice to intentionally seek out diverse voices because of your associations with diversity and identity. I disagree with your notion of what seeking diversity means for white men in the community and tilde as a whole, and despite my clarifications and those of other commenters, you are holding fast, and that's ok. I'm not stopping anyone from joining Tildes, and I'm not skipping over men or cis gendered, or white folks simply because of their identity. I am taking positive action to include other demographics with my invitations.

Ultimately, separating the identity and experiences from a person is impossible, and can trying to can cause valuable perspectives to be missed. The more diverse community we have, the richer the experience. We have people here who understand what life is like as a man, as an American, as a white person, and those experiences are important and needed. We also need other voices who know other lives, as those are equally important.

I think you are seeing this as positive discrimination but it is a positive action.

To be fair, of my first five invites, two were white, male 30-50. Three were women, I think, two of which were from the UK. I don’t know their race and didn’t ask. One frequented an lgbt-affirming subreddit I also frequent.

If I hadn’t looked at these aspects of invitees, I probably would have invited all or mostly men, as this is the overwhelming demographic on Reddit.

Seeking out diverse invitees does not take away from the ability of the majority demographic from taking part in Tildes. People want a community that represents them, and adding diversity to tildes seems like a positive for us all.

I’ve been looking at requests from reddit posts and looking for long term accounts who miss old Reddit, with quality comments, who aren’t assholes. I’m also trying to pick more diverse people like lgbt+, bipoc, women and non-US people when I can. I’m also sending people a link to the tildes docs when I invite them so they can learn the philosophy.

I was banned from Reddit for posting something pro-lgbt in the “wrong” sub. I appealed it and was reinstated. Then about every four months or so I was being banned again for the most basic and innocuous comments. It was so weird and periodic that I started to think I was on some mods shit list and was getting a ban hammer arbitrarily. I appealed and was reinstated I think 4 times. So weird. But then I did fuck up and got banned, maybe even by the same mod.

(I made a reference to a poem with the phrase “punch nazis” in thread about the clash in NYC between drag queens and far right extremists and was banned permanently for that though, appeal denied. I get it, I did break the rules that time. I’m not violent and don’t advocate violence. The only thing I won’t tolerate is intolerance.) anyway I’m rambling sorry your post got me thinking!
