Waco was, what, 100 people? And that lasted a week?
If you want to see how effective the government works be at putting down an actual rebellion, consider the wars we have fought against citizens of their own nation who didn't want us there. We were driven out of Vietnam, and Afghanistan. We were born, as a nation, out of a rebellion. The only time we have ever actually won something like that was the civil war, and it was a bloody, horrifying slog.
I do not want to see a rebellion here, but don't pretend like it would be an automatic win for the government.
And it would be a loss for the whole country, no matter who wins.

First, it still means that my PII (personally identifying information) is in the database of some database connected to the internet, configured to provide portions of it in response to the right query. That database will be breached, and my information spread far and wide.
Second, whatever the "key" is to verify my ID, wearer it is a password, a QR code, am alphanumeric string, that thing is now my ID. If someone captures that, they can now verify themselves as me, anywhere the system is used.
Third, it brings a third party into what should be a two-party transacting. (Well, fourth into a three, if you count the government)

But more importantly, it costs money that will not produce a visible result. It's tricky to sell a certain kind of person on the idea of spending a big pile of money with the end result being "nothing happened." They fail to understand that for a huge number of situations, "nothing happens" is the good result. We should make them play the BSG board game.
And even if it was gonna cause a visible "win," most of our leaders are short-sighted, and most of our systems are designed to force them to be that way. Elections for senators are every six years. Presidents every four years. Representatives, two years. And "captains of industry" don't often look further ahead than the quarterly earnings.
Only 33 people in our whole nation's leadership expected to look as far as six years into the future. No wonder we can't get anything done.

Why don't you just refuse to work at a company that won't implement OSHA regulations? The article mentioned 4K people might lose fingers annually? That's quite unfortunate, but they could have bought a SawStop to use, or refused to work at an employer who didn't.

Not as many people would have seen that. Not as many people would be wondering what they might do, if ordered to contribute to genocide. People often say they wouldn't have helped commit the Holocaust, or any other genocidal event, but clearly some people do.
This guy didn't. It is unquestionably a tragedy, but it may have also been a heroic act of protest.
