I have self-harm scars from some twenty-years of a dark period, and it sucks covering them all of the time. Especially in the summer. They’re embarrassing and I hate them. If someone has the audacity to tell me to cover them up because it made them so stressed out they’re triggered, then they can leave. I worked really hard to break out of that mentality, these scars are badges at this point.

It won’t make it great, but it can be somewhat usable.

I was typing a comment in a gaming thread and I wanted to say something that may have been a spoiler. As I was looking through the formatting doc, I noticed it had a ton of different things you could do, but I couldn’t find a way to hide something behind a spoiler—I was wondering if there was a way to add a “spoiler” text feature.

Essentially this , but block out the word or phrase (I just wanted a reason to use one of the formatting options, honestly).

    Thanks!

However, one of my favorite Pokémon items is the Holographic Mew card from the 2001 movie release. So, like old Pokémon event collection, haha.

The Donald was fully toxic and it hid behind the guise of joking. Frat boy toxicity kind of thing.PCM had toxicity in the same way most of the subs surrounding politics had their extreme groups. However, I agree with your first point wholly and admit I was wrong there. I understand where you’re coming from.

Either way, I honestly don’t want to spend my time arguing on behalf of a subreddit. I, personally, enjoyed it and had way more good times than bad. I can live without it though. I shouldn’t have pushed it anyway. I got defensive.

Other subreddits I wouldn’t mind seeing revived would be trees, anthropology, animal crossing and hydrohomies, if it makes any difference.

    1. It’s media. It’s not a false equivalency.

    2. The argument is: the subreddit had nothing resembling anything close to political extremism nor did it promote any extreme ideologies. At no point did this happen. Therefore, any argument saying that extremist ideologies being allowed to fester and spread doesn’t apply.

In summary: the argument is moot.

Edit to add: I will agree that too much of exposure to a certain type of media may cause those susceptible to being easily swayed to fall victim to extremist ideology so my first point is flawed. It still ends when a satire page doesn’t promote any extremist ideology applicable to the original argument intended to be against it.

That only works if the place actually encourages said ideologies or pushes for any form of actions.

Again, 99% of the time it’s a meme page. And the left has just as bad echo chambers.

No place on the internet is 100% perfect. The vast majority of pcm users were liberal and mocked the other two sectors regularly. The other side joked back. The argument that media leads to behavior has already been disproven a bunch just looking at studies of video games and film.

It’s not like it was a far right or far left circle jerk. It was mostly making fun of those people so it falls into the realm of satire. So, again, anyone being swayed by things they saw in pcm were probably going to believe that onion articles are real. You’re basically arguing the same thing as conservatives. “If the people are exposed to it—it’ll change them against what I want them to think!”

It was also one of the few places around that allows for freedom of discussion as long as people were respectful. As opposed to places like r/latestagecapitalism which banned people for even engaging with pages they didn’t like (pretty authoritarian if I say so myself).

PCM truly falls into the category of most people who dislike it only dislike it because they were told to dislike it.

But that’s just my opinion. I majored in political science. I frequented pcm. Never changed my ideologies more than any other open discussion would. I’d rather have that than an echo chamber that promotes hate in either direction.

Now, it’s a bit livelier. I like that it isn’t massively overrun like Lemmy currently is—but the influx of users has definitely boosted my engagement.

Honestly, that’s all on them. Anyone who can be swayed by over the top memes was gonna do that anyway. Same thing would happen on any social media site if they had a propensity for it.
