I've never read the books but I was getting genuinely bored during the 2nd movie. They could have easily shaved 20-30 off of it by cutting so much of the "is he the prophet" rants involving Stilgar. And Walken was so miscast as the Emperor...when I first read it I thought it was going to be such an inspired casting choice and Walken breaking from his usual mold...only to be sitting there in the theater expecting him to say cowbell at some point

This has always been one of my top 2 movies of all time! One of the biggest reasons is how, much like the first movie, it's about people who are legitimately in way over their heads, against a superior. They try their best, may be overconfident, but they are getting bested because of stupid decisions and passing the idiot-ball around.

But the director's cut is a far superior film than the theatrical. The only thing they could have left on the cutting room floor was the intro with Newt's family. But the part about Ripley's daughter is a nice kick in the gut, the extended hearing, Hudson bragging, the turrets, and especially the talk about hives.

One thing I never noticed until someone pointed it out though... during the hearing with execs at the beginning, during the initial pan you can see one of them doing a crossword puzzle just highlighting how bullshit the whole thing is to them.

I first figured this out when I deployed pihole years ago. I don't use many apps/games that have these ad-based bonuses but if I'm at home and need to spin that wheel it's just as easy as turning off wifi, run the ad, then turn it back on. It's worth the minor inconvenience

I'm glad they reworked the original plan for the first season into what it became. The original pilot centered around stopping a middle eastern man with radiation/nuclear powers.

I smoked my weight in weed in high school and college, and am rather pro-legislation (within reason obviously). I'm not at the "get off my lawn" age yet but even I'm not a fan walking anywhere in public and getting a big pungent whiff of pot. And it still throws me off a tad when I got outside to take out the trash and can smell it from the porch of the renters next door.

It might have worked well if it was it's own standalone series instead of being masked with the QL title.

This just reminds me of the old reddit threads when Toys r Us when under. Dozens of stories about how upset they were they can't take their kids there anymore to play around, try the toys and just have fun...but of course they'd never buy anything or at best they'd check stuff out then just buy it off Amazon.

I watched season one as it was released back when I had Peacock. It just wasn't...good. it lacked the heart of the original while also trying to lean in way too hard on it and expand on so much. It did an ok job of answering a question or 2 that may have popped up by fans, like how people who were leapt into dealt with the experience afterwards. But it too some of the fun out of the show by trying to serialize the season and having a multi-sided story told.

I never cared to even attempt the 2nd season

That's what a lot of modern policies seem to be these days. "My body, my choice". Perfect for why you shouldn't have a mandatory vaccine, "not like that" when it comes to a woman and an abortion.

Even in private channels, you can add or remove members and the new members can see history. This is immensely useful when staff changes.

I feel the same way, and hate how modern takes on movies deal more with people making out of character dumb decisions to advance the story.

One of the best things about the first 2 Alien movies is they revolved around characters who were fully competent and capable but being out of their element or simply 1 step behind a superior foe. That's what made it scary. Not because of a couple scientists who where scared and skeptical at every turn until the giant fanged snake shows up and they said "hey let's approach this thing and touch it for no reason"

With modern schooling it seems to have gone from building a curriculum and grading papers to micromanaging every tiny aspect, up to constant communication with grades and parents via apps.

My exgf is a private school teacher in a smaller southern city. The sheer level of entitlement coming from only rich in a small town parents is staggering. Half her evenings are spent being berated by parents via email and Google classroom because their precious child (who screws around in class all day but can't get in trouble for it) got a D on a quiz yet even with middling grades has to be added to the accelerated college prep courses because they have to go to UGA... according to the mother who didn't attend. And her history teacher friend got chastised more than once because parents complained about her liberal curriculum regarding how she framed WW2...I wish I were joking.
