You're far more likely to come down with a respiratory infection from airborne/droplet transmission than fomites (surfaces) and food/drink. Before Covid I feel like there was maybe a 25% chance I'd come down with a cold after a long flight especially in the winter. Now I feel like even if Covid were eradicated I'd still wear a mask on planes - I haven't gotten sick on a flight since before 2020.

For example, pretty much everyone is constantly exposed to small amounts of benzene from car exhaust and other sources, but at a low enough level that most of us will not get benzene-related cancers in our lifetimes.

Oat milk is the best tasting in coffee IMO, and macadamia milk gives a nice nutty flavor that really goes well in chocolate milk or chai.

Nils Frahm - Spaces - or any Nils Frahm album really (classical/electronic crossover, mainly piano-driven)
Leon Vynehall - Nothing is Still - this one does have some occasional vocal "effects / ambience" but no lyrics (downtempo House)
Clarice Jensen - Esthesis and The Experience of Repetition as Death - these are probably the most actually ambient of the selections I have here, especially "Repetition". Clarice Jensen is classically trained cellist but both albums are also largely synth-driven
Ben Lukas Boysen - Mirage - downtempo electronic
Philip Glass - Koyaanisqatsi - Glass is one of the defining composers of the Minimalism movement. OST for a fantastic non-narrative 1982 film. I may be in the minority of this one but to listen to it as a piece of music I prefer the 1998 re-recording
Steve Reich - Music for 18 Musicians (here is the original 1978 recording) and Sextet. Reich (along with Glass) is the other defining Minimalism composer. Sextet has been recorded multiple times but I think this recording by Yale Percussion Group is the best which is available only as a YouTube video as far as I know. One of the YT comments describes it as "ambient music on speed" which I think is kind of the perfect description of this piece. Music for 18 is slightly more relaxed in effect but still features Reich's characterisic "pulsing energy"

A kid being overstimulated because the day care is too small or a family being unable to have a kid because they can't afford it?
This might be controversial, but given our lack of meaningful progress against climate change and the 8 billion (and counting) world population, I think the kid being overstimulated is the worse outcome. Now if your hypothetical were about kids that are already born being sent to an overcrowded daycare vs their families not being able to afford daycare at all (and maybe having to forego a second income stream since one parent has to be fulltime caretaker), then that's a different conversation.
If it's a deficit of kids you're worried about, I think the best way to solve that is to make adoption easier for qualified parents who want to, and welcome more immigrants to keep a demographic balance.

- 1/3 cup cashews
- few tablespoons of nutritional yeast (use more or less to taste)
- salt, onion powder, and garlic powder to taste
- roughly 1/2 tsp lactic acid powder (to taste)
- splash of soy milk
- Blend all the above ingredients in blender until smooth
We use this sauce on "mac-n-cheez" pasta, with whole wheat pasta, a can of chickpeas, and some frozen green peas cooked with the pasta. Also it's good in casseroles.

There's an additive called Opti-Red that is yeast-derived polysaccharides that is supposed to help mouthfeel, or yeast strains like BM 4x4 that are supposed to release a lot of polysaccharides during fermentation to accomplish the same goal.

I used 2 oz chips for 5 gallons. This time with the blackberry wine is my first time using the cubes, which supposedly are smoother than the chips but it takes longer, suggested 2-3 month minimum contact time. I'm using just under 1 oz for the 3 gallons. Just added the cubes last week so I've got awhile to go but I'll be curious to see how it compares.

I have 3 gal of blackberry wine aging on oak cubes in a carboy right now. Relatively new to the hobby but my best so far have been elderberry wine (full bodied and tannic, kind of like a Cabernet), and apple wine from store-bought juice (dry and crisp). This fall I'm planning on sourcing some locally grown Pinot Noir and trying my hand at making a "real" wine for the first time.

I believe that the "self" or ego is an illusion, and being able to realize that your thoughts aren't YOU, they just pop into your head, can alleviate a lot of mental suffering. I think nothing happens after you die. There's no afterlife, no reincarnation, it's just like it was before you were born ie nothing - nonexistence. I think life is special and mysterious and the closest thing to a "meaning" of life is to appreciate the wonder of existence and the world. The fact that we are here at all is a sort of "miracle".

Music of the 60s and 70s is always a huge influence of theirs; this album draws heavily from Simon and Garfunkel and the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds era.
Not this week, but several months ago I was listening a bunch to Dan Deacon's Mystic Familiar which IMO is a masterpiece of electronic neo-psychedelia.

Our go-to quick, lazy recipe at home is whole wheat + lentil pasta (they cook for different times, so throw the longer-cooking one in first) with store-bought Classico sauce, and if we're feeling a little less lazy we often add sauteed onions, garlic, and/or kale. Or make a side salad to go with it. Topped with nooch, pepper, and Italian seasoning.

Most ultra-processed foods are extremely low in fiber, and reduced fiber intake is causally linked to colon cancer, higher post-prandial glucose spikes and crashes - which over time contributes to T2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome, and several other conditions. Plus, micronutrients are lacking in processed white grains, compared to their whole grain versions, and ultra-processed foods lack polyphenols and other beneficial phytonutrients in fresh fruits and veggies.

Right now I have Navidrome running on an Intel NUC with a USB external drive, and Jellyfin on my desktop PC which I do shut off from time to time. I'm in the process of building a DIY NAS/server with a J5040-ITX board and two 14TB drives (planning on doing ZFS pool) and once that's complete I'll move both services and all the data to that machine.
Websites, on the other hand, in a lot of cases feel slower and more bloated then ever.
