I rarely, if ever, have found what anyone else has said to be useful/helpful to me, as I am already communicating with the subset of my team I am currently collaborating with for the task at hand. Conversely, I'm pretty sure nobody has found anything I have had to say useful as well. It all seems redundant to me.

Me too. In the 00s, it seemed appropriate. In the 10s, I was increasingly feeling frustrated with how out of date it felt and constantly hoping for better and more structured search. Now in the 20s, considering how hostile the using the internet has become, I really appreciate how little it has changed.

Comment on Widening US highways doesn't fix traffic. So why do we keep doing it? in ~transport

Instead of traffic and freeway lanes, imagine water flowing through a pipe. The cross section of a pipe is a circle. A circle is an an area. As your flow rate requirements increase, you reach a point where your current pipe diameter becomes insufficient, so you increase the pipe diameter. When you increase the diameter of the pipe, the area increases in two dimensions, and therefore, at a squared rate.
Now imagine the traffic analog of this. The solution would be to not only widen the freeway but also build up. But instead we only build out. Our flow requirements need a two dimensional solution, but instead we only address one.
Clearly we can't build up. But this is why, I imagine, building out does not solve the traffic problem. Population increase requires an exponential solution. Adding lanes is a geometric one.
Also, exits and onramps are still only one, or perhaps two lanes wide at most. This doesn't change.

there's nothing wrong with eating meat. what's wrong are modern practices like factory farming and cafos. i would say that, if you are fortune to be able to, you should be buying the highest quality, locally produced, ethically raised meat you can source. And probably be mindful about the quantity of meat you eat as well.

my partner practices it professionally and i gratefully ask her to practice on me. it's like a nudge to push you in the right direction, but it's still your job to snowball downhill. it can have varying degrees of success. it has helped me kick habits, compulsive thoughts and behavior, even forget a whitney houston song that was stuck in my head for two weeks.

Comment on France strikes: One million protest against Macron's rise in retirement age in ~society

How worthy you are of respect....I wish workers would strike like that in the US. It's ridiculous how brainwashed we are from such a young age about every aspect of work. How it defines who you are. How worthy you are of respect. How important you must be.
work = money
andmoney = good
thereforework = good
. The more money you make, the more good you are. And the harder you work, well of course the more money you'll make.Poverty is our cigarettes or asbestos. Eroding the safety net was a choice. Probably more our parents'/grandparents' choice than our choice. The greatest country in the world. What a joke.

That could mean anything in between being independently wealthy and having a bootstrapped one man saas. I'm far from either. I want the luxury to work, go to school, or travel at my discretion. I'd like to help my friend's/family/community too.
I work. I'm not in debt except for the massive mortgage on our house, but the monthly payment plus tax and insurance is probably equal to what I'd be paying on rent anywhere I'd want to live. All of our money is being dumped into our house remodel, at which point we will probably be broke by the end and still have much left to do.
I put enough into a 401k to meet my employers match, but I honestly don't believe in retirement. I think it's a scam that either won't be there for me if I/we even make it that long (as a planet/country/peoples), or won't be enough by the time I need it. I put it in the Vanguard target fund but I am still very skeptical.
The only thing I actually pour thought/time/energy into is the occasional side project that I start, and have a habit of not finishing, in the hopes of generating some income.

I have faith in Amy Adams. I don't think she'd sign on to a bad film. I think it'll be great.
