In my opinion, this is a rather large deal. This isn't simply a PR skirmish, Spotify filed an anti-trust complaint to the European Commission about what they consider unfair play on Apple's part. Apple has long been a "closed ecosystem" in terms of OS integration with competing products as opposed to their own (especially in iOS).

Without needing to comb through the commits (I'm not very familiar with python), I'm curious as to how you're calculating word-count for a large number of sites. Is there an external API you're using for this? Or are you using something like beautifulsoup and guessing at html elements that contain the article's content?

Currently, we can filter posts based on topic tags, is there any chance we could get the same based upon users? Preferably for comments and topics. There are times when I might be interested in a sub-tilde group, but for one reason or another, not a specific user's content in that group. Is this a bad idea?

I'm not sure what you really mean by: Most PWAs function as "apps" that are standalone from the browser, you can actually set this with the display property in the site's manifest.json. More Info

Still requires you to have the browser open to actually receive them, but doesn't require having the tab open.

I think Deimos has said that niche subs will come with a larger user-base. The goal currently is to not have a single sub that is too niche it results in low activity.
