But I disagree with your mention that Medicaid is a program for extreme poverty or is too difficult to use.
72,000,000+ Americans receive Medicaid [1] . This is over 22% of the population.
It is twice the entirety of Canada.
I agree with you that the program needs to be expanded and made easier to use, and it is in no way perfect. But I think, from time to time, it is worth celebrating that we can assist 72,000,000 real people, and take that positive message to do even more.

The biggest positive surprise when I moved to a multifamily neighborhood is that mom-and-pop shops can be sustained at this critical density. It is just not economically possible to have local shops in low density suburbs. Instead, you can drive to a strip mall that is filled with chain stores. In my medium density neighborhood, I can walk to do some of my errands and bike to do the rest.
In fact, I am going right now on foot now to buy some fruit from a local green grocer (I go every few days to keep my fruit/veg supplies abundant and fresh) and drop off library books!

I'd say that the Impossible burger is closer to a ground beef burger, while the Beyond Meat burger had a slightly unique (but enjoyable) taste that makes it fail the "beef Turing test."

I also picked up Bone (recommended by @KapteinB) and The Ballad of the Salt Sea (recommended by @vili) for the train to work next week.
Thank you for recommending McCloud's work!

Early teen years were the most awkward for me. I feel a pang when I see teens today and know how much self-consciousness so many of them suffer for no good reason.
I suppose I was bullied once or twice, but most of my bad PE experiences were minor events (minor to everyone but me). At the time, my teenage brain they felt they were giant catastrophes.

But Putnam explains how leisure among neighbors, community engagement, and civic participation are all declining in most people's lives (mine included). I think reversing this decline is one step to fixing our social malaise.

There are also other capitalist states, like France or Norway, where adults work fewer hours than in the US.
From this data I think we can say that the hustle culture are not a requirement of capitalism, but of the special breed of today's capitalism in America.

I was often unhappy during my PhD.
Assume it will take you 6-8 years to complete.
Do not date within your department.
Five years after graduation, you will probably not use, and will have forgotten, your PhD work.
If you are unhappy after two years, I strongly encourage you to cut losses and leave with a free Masters degree.
Isn't the administration of a NIT handled by the existing tax return process?
What I mean is: you file your tax return normally, and if the lowest bracket(s) are changed to have a negative rate, you obtain a larger tax refund via the IRS's current refund infrastructure.
