    I'm late to the party, but lets do it!

    I'm drg, 36yo guy (he/him) from Brazil.

    Brief bio

    I'm an economist and a nerd, father of a young boy.

    I used to pass my time in front of a computer. Got my first one when I was 7, lived alone from 17yo to ~26yo, I didn't have a TV back then, when I got home i just sat at my desk and stayed in my computer.

    Used to have lot of online friends who I talked to using ICQ, MSN, ICQ and on forums. When I was younger, I used to play PC games, starting with Doom2, Age of Empires 2, byt got really hooked on Counter Strike, which I played a lot as a kid and as a yound adult. Used to tinker a lot with Linux and computers in general (when I was a teenager, a nice afternoon for me was to read the Gentoo handbook and to install it on my computer, for example).

    Since becoming a father, I have very little "alone time" and I just don't sit that much in front of a computer anymore outside work. And now with WhatsApp (the main form of communication here in Brazil), there are few people (at least me age) who has any kind of IM outside it. I also stopped playing games on the computer. Now, when I have some time, I sit in front of a computer and I have no idea what to do with it. I don't have online friends anymore and I have no idea how to make them, but I miss it.

    General interests

    I like music a lot, rock and metal stuff. Rock in general as in Queen, Bee Gees, Supertramp, Dire Straits, and more "strong" music as in Dream Theater, Kamelot, Nightwish and so on.

    I also enjoy reading fantasy in general. LOTR, Brandon Sanderson (I love Stormlight Archive, I just started reading the original Mistborn trilogy a few weeks ago) and similar books.

    I always wanted to try TTRPGs, D&D and stuff like that but I haven't found anyone to play with until very recently. I moved to another city and I discovered the father of one of my son's friend is also a nerd who loves D&D and was starting an AD&D campaign, and he invited me. I enjoyed it a lot, but didn't like much his friends outside of the game, more like rightwing people, and we used to play at the middle of the week, ending the sessions much later than what I'm used to go to bed, so it was difficult for me to continue it, and I dropped from the game. I have been reading a lot about TTRPGs in general and would very much like to try different ones, like Daggerheart.

    Other thins to know about me

    English is not my first language, but I can read and listen to it very well.

    More to the shy side

    I forgot how to use social websites/forums! I mainly just lurk nowadays :(

    Personally, I never took notes in classes. When I tried, I had trouble concentrating in the content being presented. I had to choose between paying attention or writing something down. For me, to pay attention always yielded better results for later retention.

    I don’t know if it is related, but I don’t highlight passages when I studied. I couldn’t imagine what to highlight, and afterwards I would reread the whole material regardless of if I highlighted something.

    Yep, but my point is that “absolute” (or something close to that) free market does not equal capitalism. Those are not synonymous. I disagree that the US is unequivocally more capitalist than other countries. Again, sorry for being pedantic, not the point of this discussion.

    I disagree. Adam Smith put it simple, the existence of well defined and enforceable rules of the game are a condition for the capitalism system. But anyway, not much relevant for the discussion here.

Capitalism has as a condition well defined rules against market failures, for example, that simply don’t exist in the US. Complete free market (or almost complete) isn’t capitalism.

    One thing that I think wasn’t mentioned here: have you tried investigating if you have sleep apneia? I had and had no ideia of it, always thought I was a light sleeper. My Apple Watch warned me my o2 was getting low during the night, so I went to a doctor, had some exams done and that was it, moderate sleep apneia. Got a surgery done and now my sleep quality is much better, finally I have deep sleep episodes during the night and now it is much harder for a sound to wake me up.

    Miranda-IM. Don’t think it is that well know, but it was a multi protocol IM client for windows with a minimalist vibe. Used for ICQ and MSN (I think) back in the day.

    I really like AutoSleep, actually it got close to the results I had after a polysomnography. I use it with my Apple Watch, and there is no Android version, though.

    Nothing much to add. Personally, I don't understand much the idea of using an app to consume a web page, I think that navigating the site on the browser is a much nicer experience than having dedicated apps to different communities and the like. But that's me and I think I'm the minority. So, thanks for your effort, and I will give your app a try to see if I'm finally able to realize why so many people seems to prefer dedicated apps.

    This is one of my worst fears. I’m easily distracted and I have a 9 months old baby. I leave him at day care everyday in the morning. What I do to minimize any risk is to call my wife everyday...

    This is one of my worst fears. I’m easily distracted and I have a 9 months old baby. I leave him at day care everyday in the morning. What I do to minimize any risk is to call my wife everyday after I drop him. I can’t imagine how it must be to live with such a tragedy.
