I don't know why... I haven't measured it, but I'd bet the pickle juice is a pH of 5ish. Maybe the salt helps?

Pickle brined chicken is nice, though. I'd strongly endorse tasting it first then asking questions later.

Hard agree. Any time I find myself back in Bojangles territory, getting a cajun filet biscuit and a sweet tea from Bojangles becomes a priority for me.

In my opinion, inserting step 0: "Submerge chicken in a brine made from pickle juice, brown sugar, salt, pepper and cayenne for one to two hours" will make your recipe even better.

I read that headline and thought (did it also show that water is wet?).

That's really sad, but the article would, IMO, be more interesting if it showed a difference between how many americans understand basic civics and, say, how many understand the germ theory of disease, how many understand the relationship between sun exposure and the probability of developing melanoma, etc.

Show up, love, be kind, and have fun. That's the bulk of it (and all of it at first).

As they get older, teaching yourself to be very consistent and reliable (i.e. make sure their behaviors and misbehaviors have consistent, reasonable consequences and don't threaten consequences you won't impose) gets to be important.

One thing that's helped me: Once they were 6 or so years old, I started to let my kids play video games or watch TV for 30-60 minutes per day. They enjoy that, and I make sure there is a selection of video games and TV that I consider apprporiate and constructive. This might sound cynical, but more importantly, this gave me a thing that they liked and that I didn't mind taking away on any specific day if that was necessary as a consequence to help address undesirable behavior. Having something like that in my pocket made it easier to (mostly) guarantee that when I say there's a consequence, I'm willing to stand by that consequence.

Thankfully, with mine that hasn't been necessary too often, and I mostly get to enjoy small amounts of video games and TV with them.

Well. So long, Unity! Thanks for all the fish.

I've been on the fence for the past few game jams I've participated in. Others have wanted to use Unity, and I haven't seen fit to fight it.

But I've wanted to try Godot.

Now I have a more serious reason to find a team that also wants to try Godot for my next game jam.

I've enjoyed Unity. This likely marks the last time I use it.

It’s been a while since I’ve visited either place, but I remember Marblehead being a nice part of the coast to see and Salem being a good (if packed with kitsch) brief stop afterward.

My mom always liked cottage cheese with a red, spicy salad dressing. I'm going to have to try this with salsa now... it sounds like just the kind of thing I'd like.

I've been using mine for about 12 years now. I replaced the old one about 3 years ago because the threads where you screw in the cylinder got worn.

I find that I can carbonate 50 or so L worth of water for about $15 worth of gas, and I tend to mostly drink it plain, so the price works out a bit in my favor, and it makes me happy not to go through so many disposable bottles. (Prior to the sodastream, I used to go through a couple dozen 1L bottles of soda bottles from the grocery store every week or two.)

I find that the water takes the gas better if it's chilled before I fizz it. I usually keep a bottle or two in the fridge, but if I've taken them out for some reason, I just chill water over ice in a pitcher on the counter for 5 minutes, then pour that into the bottles. I dump the remaining ice into the dog's water bowl after.
