I think Snapchat’s just a weird company in general with really questionable practices at times. Like intentionally making it suck on Android, the Snapchat glasses that completely flopped, and from what I’ve heard the work culture is pretty messed up (not that I can link a source for the last one). Not sure what they’re thinking with this

What’s up tildorans, This is more of a thought experiment then anything else, is the impact of consuming calories more or less impactful then producing the electricity needed to power the bike? And I also understand this is extremely affected by circumstance. Let’s say you eat beef 3 times a day and live in a part of the world where power is mostly generated via nuclear or hydroelectric. At that point, would the impact via electricity be less then the one via calories? What if you flip the spectrum and you’re a vegan living somewhere that produces all its energy via coal and oil, how does that affect the equation? Thanks

My first question is what is the funding? Contrary to what others are saying, you can probably afford to be somewhat sloppy in your layout/functionality as long as the service itself is ethical. What tends to kill video platforms however is a lack of income. Hosting in itself is not a profitable service, and last time I looked into it YouTube is a net negative for Google/Alphabet. Without its’ external funding and all the ads it probably wouldn’t exist either. Vimeo managed to hang on this long by erecting a walled garden, but take a look at vid.me or any other video hopefuls, the common denominator between most of them is they couldn’t find a way to effectively monetize themselves

Personally I don’t think it’s necessarily a terrible idea to break up these companies, it just seems so improbable for names that big

Journey was a really cool game to watch. I never played it as I don't have a PS4 which I think you need but I watched some of the Roosterteeth guys play it a few years ago (Ray and Burnie I think), and I remember they got matched with this random person and spent the next like 90 minutes working with this guy to finish the story. Looked like an awesome game

I'd have to disagree, going off the principle that all content in a sub-group should be a subset of the parent, ~science just doesn't cover everything regarding space-related activity. 'ULA fires executives' (not real news) is not a science-related topic but would be desirable in a space-related group

It may seem weird but it's always been convention to start arrays (basically just a list of values) at 0, mainly because of it's relationship with the hardware implementation ('A' can be stored at 000, 'B' stored at 001, 'C' stored at 010...). Another way to think of it is like, on Sunday, zero days of the week have gone by, on Monday, one day will have gone by, and so on. If you work with that mindset for long enough you get an intuition for it, I feel like changing the convention to starting at 1 serves no purpose other then to further obfuscate what goes on behind the curtain, and confuse experienced programmers

I got this when I started play battlefield 1 about a year ago. In the bf4 servers you'd still get that one edgy teen pretty often that would say dumb racist shit for a while and then leave, but when I started playing the new game I feel like 95% of the times there's like 10 people preaching about how Trump will gas the n*****s and how all liberals are cucks, and this goes on the ENTIRE game. Like wat, I just want to enjoy the game, how did it get so edgy

I'm not really hardlining for or against this proposal, I'm just thinking about the potential applications such a feature might offer. This would certainly add that layer of complexity you talk about as to what really defines a trigger. I personally don't see myself ever using the system but I can see how it might be pretty valuable to some, I can definitely see why you might not want to come across 'Adults want to stab a 12 year old trans child at a school' if you were a trans person just trying to browse the website

In that case a trigger tag would be useful to differentiate the two then right? A violence in interrogation study could definitely be tagged with 'violence,' but more as a reference to the discussion of it, not as a post with violence necessarily in it, such as a video of police brutality. I feel like most people that wouldn't be okay with the latter would probably be okay with the former, so maybe there is, theoretically, some use case for it. How applicable that is day to day I don't know

In addition to what others have mentioned, I'm not sure all discussions about violence are necessarily triggers. The article referenced in the title could definitely be considered a trigger, but is something like say, a study on the effectiveness of violence in interrogations one? Full disclosure, I'm not the most knowledgeable on the subject and I don't know how severe something has to be to be considered a trigger, but when I think of a trigger I think of something... on the more graphic side of things I guess

Agreed, you have to be careful just how much sympathy you assign to the things around you. If you're unable to discriminate between real emotion coming from a sentient being and an audio file be played back, I think there's a real danger of manipulation there.
