My apartment gets really hot, especially in the late afternoon. When it’s too much, I just take a quick cold-ish shower, cool down completely, and I’m good for 1-2 hours. Showers, a couple of fans, shades to block the sun, windows shut tight during the day, then wide open at night and early morning when it’s cooler, that’s it. Why would I need an AC sucking up tons of energy for hours?

I used to go to Ikea for homeware, but now I just search for the item on Kleinanzeigen and usually get several matches. If not, I just save the search and get notified as soon as something new pops up. A little patience goes a long way... I literally furnished my entire apartment this way. Furniture, kitchen tools, repair tools, electronics, clothes, training equipment, plants... you name it. I like expensive, high-quality stuff, but I would’ve spent a crazy amount if I’d bought everything brand new. High-quality used stuff beats cheaper brand new stuff any day!

It’ll probably be impossible to avoid completely, but learning a trade can reduce how much you rely on digital tech in your daily work, and with a bit of luck, you might go days or even weeks without having to deal with GenAI or to think about it. I recommend the book “Shop Class as Soulcraft” by Matthew B. Crawford.

It wouldn’t occur to me to recommend going to the NTS YouTube channel though. I’d just recommend @Kiwibird to download the app or go to their website and start to listen. NTS is an independent web radio with two live channels, a 24/7 schedule, and a huge archive of past shows. Each show is curated by pros, musicians, DJs, composers, journalists, and artists worldwide. Everything you hear is handpicked by a human, there are no algorithms involved. They don't just play the music, they often talk about it too. There are interviews, live jam sessions, album previews, and banter. There are no ads. There is an engaged community on discord that interacts in real time with the hosts. It’s pretty much the soundtrack of my life, and I’ve built an amazing playlist just by shazamming tracks I like. I've been an NTS supporter for years.
Bandcamp also has a radio show called Bandcamp Weekly that showcases new music from the platform. They've been doing it for ages and the quality is consistently top-notch.
I also follow some publications like Pitchfork and Needle Drop, but radio and shows are my main source for new music. They’re easy to put on, listen to, and note down whatever I vibe with.

Previously I was using a half-baked script on my machine that just SSHed in and pulled the latest changes from origin (I was the only one editing the wiki).
Now it’s a bit more solid — a bare repo with an external worktree, the Synology as external remote, and a nightly script that commits and pushes web edits back to origin. Nothing fancy, but fun to set up.
The wiki is a customized, self-hosted version of w2wiki, which is pretty phenomenal. Simple, small, and easily hackable.

It’s a list of easy, healthy meals I like, sorted into three categories (Carbs, Proteins, and Veggies). Whenever I come across a quick recipe that works for me, I add it to the list. When I’m at the store and need inspiration, I just scroll through and pick the first thing that sounds good.
Also, I live alone and I usually cook 2–4 portions at once. That way I have leftovers in the fridge for the next days or something to bring to the office. I almost never use food delivery and rarely eat out.

It's always active, adds no latency whatsoever (none that I could notice anyways), works seamlessly on all my Apple devices requiring no additional software, and it's included in my iCloud+ subscription, which I need anyway. Of course it only works in Safari, but that suits me perfectly since I only use Safari and don't need IP-masking anywhere else.
I might be worth mentioning that I no longer torrent locally and happily pay for my put.io subscription. I could not imagine going back to local torrenting after using put.io... it's just that good.
Thanks and sorry!
