It sounds like you've worked through a lot of the guilt and that can be the hardest part. Therapy helped me a lot. I'm still quite the people pleaser, but I'm learning to take myself into consideration. I'm 40 so it's weird, but it's good.
Good luck on your journey, friend! I'm here if you ever need an understanding stranger to talk to.

I've been having a lot of the same feelings and self doubt recently. My mom was probably borderline and/or narcissistic. I'm so afraid of becoming her. I don't want to be a mean and manipulative person like she was. But I also recognized I was raised by her and I always wonder/ am afraid that I'm going to be here.
Like you, all my therapists have said they don't see it in me.
The fact that you are so worried about being an unsafe person shows how much you care about your friends, family, and just people in general. I don't think a narcissist has those kinds of thoughts. You're a good person.

I started with the quiz at putacupinit.com to find my first cup and I've never looked back! I watched a bunch of YouTube videos on how to insert it so I felt confident I could do it. I think it took like 3 cycles for me to really get it down, so expect a few leaks and have pads or panty liners ready. It's totally worth the learning curve.

I will say, personally, I don't like to be asked how someone can help. Either I'm so bad off that I don't know or I feel like a burden answering. So it's always, "No no, I'm totally fine!" Most recently, my friend came over to hang out and she just started cleaning. She did my dishes and put away laundry. I cried for a good hour after she left. The love I felt and a bit of weight lifted was such a great feeling!

Any help with meals and chores is a big mental health relief. Can you do some dishes or laundry? Make some freezer meals and casseroles? Even just a DoorDash gift card.
Any mess and the struggle to decide what to eat exacerbates the downward spiral.

On the first full day I texted my friend a picture of the forest and told her that exact spot is what I picture as my heart space during her sound baths. I was so afraid something would have changed in the 30ish years since I'd been there but it's still as magical as I remember! My brother's and I immediately decided we're restarting the tradition and going back every summer!

My family stays at Cotillion Gardens RV park in Felton. They have little cabins too as well as RV and tent spots, and I've heard sometimes you can get a last min reservation. If you want to camp, there are companies nearby that will drop off and pick up an RV. My in-laws did that this trip and it was easy. I'm throwing this Hail Mary out there because if you can get a reservation, you'll be staying right in the middle of the forest surrounded by redwoods. You roll out of bed and go for a hike! There are also hotel options around town and it's a quick drive to the forest.
There's a river that runs through the redwoods in Felton. There's a spot called the Garden of Eden that has a sandy beach and calm water to swim in. There are other calm and shallow places to swim, but they don't have the sandy beach.
Henry Cowell State Park is a 10 min walk through the forest from the campground. It has some of the oldest and largest redwoods in the area. I thought the size would change since I haven't been there since I was about 10, but they're still just as massive, if not bigger than I remember! There are a few burned out trees that you can crawl into. It's fun to get into the middle of a living tree!
Roaring Camp and Big Trees Railroad essentially shares a parking lot with Henry Cowell, so super close. It's a cute/ fun little tourist trap. There's a general store, BBQ place, and 2 train options. We did both this trip. You can take an 1880s steam train up the mountain into the redwoods. You get an awesome view through the forest and out to the ocean. There is also a fairy circle of 9,000 year old redwoods at the top of the mountain! They also have an old diesel locomotive that will take you down to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk.
Santa Cruz is a 10 min drive or 1 hr train ride from Felton. It's a fun, chill, laid back, hippie beach town. Lots of good and local food. The roller coaster on the boardwalk turns 100 this year and it's only $1 to ride every Wednesday for the rest of the year. It's a 2 min ride and I laugh/screamed the whole time! Don't be afraid of the line; it goes fast.
You're an hour drive from Monterey. They have one of the best aquariums! If you know Steinbeck, the aquarium is in Cannery Row. It's a cool historic area where they used to can fish right at the waterfront.
Pebble Beach and Carmel are are a 5 min drive from Monterey. Two of the richest zip codes in the country. It's fun to drive around and see how the other half lives! Lol
Ok back to the redwoods. I can't think of another plant as awesomely massive. They are the tallest trees in the world and they only grow along the Oregon and northern California coast. I feel so lucky to live only 6 hours from them. It's really hard to get an actual idea of how big they really are with all the other giant trees around. The Giant in Henry Cowell is 27 stories tall. Stories! You look up and realize you probably can't see the top because of the branches and that means the thing just keeps going even higher! It is very awe inspiring. There are so many of them and the air is so fresh, that it just smells better up there.

I know there are other good spots for redwoods too, I just know Felton and the surrounding area the best. I've heard the forest around Ft Bragg is also pretty cool. They have the Skunk Train that takes you through the forest. I've never been, but it's on my list!

Oh wow. That was a lot. I just got home an hour ago and clearly I'm still on a vacation high lol. I really hope I convinced you to go. If not this trip, at least start planning for next year!

I healed some DEEP childhood wounds/ fear this week actually!
We came to this forest every year as kids. My mom would yell at me for being afraid of riding my bike in the forest with everyone, only making the fear worse and much more deep seeded. So I've been in therapy for the last 7ish years to work through my issues with my mom in general and I'm finally feeling like I'm in a good spot.
I came back to the forest with my brother this week and he brought bikes. I said no to every invitation to go for a ride until yesterday. I sucked it up, told myself that he would be supportive instead of yelling, and got on the bike. We did 5 miles! I even rode across the train trestle! I had to positive talk myself the whole ride, sometimes out loud lol, but I did it! "Just do it! Just go! You're doing great!" really helped me feel good about it. I was also proud of myself for telling him when I needed to turn around because I was done.
I realize it might sound small and silly, but I'm proud of myself for literally getting back on the bike! My whole body aches, but it was totally worth it to move past that fear!

I feel weird. Maybe y'all can help me understand or better explain it to my therapist on Thursday. I've been on 10mg of Lexapro for a month. Love it! My anxiety is pretty much gone. I have almost no nerves about leaving the house. I want to and am making plans and going out with friends. It's great!
But I have no motivation to do anything necessary to live. I'm never hungry. I have to remind myself to eat and then nothing sounds good. I shower every 2 weeks. I haven't done dishes in weeks. I haven't done laundry in longer. If I don't have anything to do, I just lay in bed scrolling or nap. I feel like a slug. I have ADHD and I feel like my executive function is at 0. My motivation is gone.
I don't know if I'm just complaining about me and this is as good as it gets, or this is a side effect of Lexapro, or this is a step in the Lexapro journey to feeling better and I just need to ride it out. But I feel better and worse at the same time and it's weird.
