Any modded Minecraft players around here?

I personally cannot stand playing vanilla minecraft anymore and always play modded, recently ive been playing through Create: Astral and its so much fun. I love the steampunk factories of create and even though im terrible at automating its still so much fun to just mess around. I was wondering if anybody else has any other favorite modpacks they've been playing recently.

I've played Minecraft since beta 1.2, and I remember well the days of "Delete META-INF". There's a part of me that loves the simplicity of vanilla Minecraft, but modded has produced some of my favorite memories of the game. I think I'll forever return to version 1.7.3, as it has some of my favorite mods, and it doesn't fell as bogged-down by mechanics that were introduced after I stopped actively playing on a regular basis. I appreciate all the work that Mojang has put into the game, but I feel stuck in the past, so I'm satisfied staying there.

I've been playing for a long time, and since 1.7 or so have pretty much exclusively played what most people would describe as "Vanilla+".

Over the years, my collection of QOL mods has evolved quite a bit, and recently I decided to make an actual modpack out of it since friends kept asking for all my JARs and configs. Learning to make a proper modpack was actually quite a fun process, I'm glad I took the time to do that.

When I play "truly modded", I don't really have any go-to packs or anything. I do quite enjoy anything with ComputerCraft and Slotlink though.

Your comment just reminded me that I started playing Minecraft over 10 years ago. I can't believe how much of my life was absorbed by it.

I host a modded server for my group of friends once or twice per year, and have been doing so for over a decade. So I've played quite a few different packs, and created a few of my own. I've also created a couple mods myself to augment those packs.

    Prepare for links.

Looking back, Tekkit (Classic) and FTB Ultimate will always hold some nostalgia for me, being some of the first proper modpacks I played. Before that I was just throwing .class files into a .jar and duct taping it back together.

Crash Landing came a little later, but was extremely unique when it launched. There's still not very many "survival map"-type packs in a similar vein.

I've done a few runs of TerraFirmaCraft now. I enjoy the lower-tech aspects of Minecraft, so TFC's focus on farming, prospecting, and slow progression is a wholly unique experience. I have not had a chance to try the newer builds yet (TFC-TNG or TFC+).

More recently, Seablock: Rustic Waters is one of the better Skyblock-lite packs I've played. I haven't tried its sequel yet, though.

The Enigmatica series tends to produce the most polished "kitchen sink" packs, which are good when you want to set your own goals. But shoutout to Resonant Rise for accomplishing the same goal in earlier versions of Minecraft.

I hope to check out Create: Astral soon, which is novel as one of the larger Fabric modpacks. Above and Beyond is also very interesting, but as was mentioned elsewhere in this thread, is no longer on the latest version of Minecraft or Create. Not really their fault; modpacks are extremely difficult to port effectively between versions.

I have plenty of other modpacks I'd like to try: Rebirth of the Night, Vault Hunters, Gregtech: New Horizons, or even the masochistic TerraFirmaGreg. There's lots of talent going into these packs, and it's hard to find time to try them all!

Create: Astral is such a blast. I've been playing it recently, and it strikes a wonderful balance between progression and relaxation. You never feel pressured to do anything you don't really want to, and since it's based on Create you can make very complex factories using just the first chapter.

I wouldn't recommend starting now as there is a big update in the works that will bring a serve reset with it and overhaul the lategame. I'd wait for that to hit.

I used to play both vanilla and modded regularly, and have published a small food mod and a modpack.

These days I create datapacks and play them in vanilla, which is kind of like a stripped down modded vanilla+ experience that's compatible with updating your world to new Minecraft versions. I've got 70 datapacks that I'm maintaining at the moment, and my current world is using 54 of them: https://github.com/dmbuce/bucepack#readme

Oh my god yes. I got into modded mc last summer and still having a blast. If you like building insanely complex factories i can recommend Multiblock Madness and Technical Journey. TJ is gregtech focused which is just another rabbit hole when it comes to building machines. My first pack, NTC2, was also really nice to me although is still considered expert modpack. Runs like ass at times tho.

A little bit of a necropost buuut,
I've been playing Minecraft with mods since beta, when risugami's modloader was the big thing.

Since becoming more of an adult with less time, the concept of making a new Minecraft world every month or so became less and less appealing to me. I don't have that kind of time to play on a world for a week non-stop anymore.

Nowadays, I host a 24/7 GT: New Horizons server for a couple of friends and I. It has been going for about 3 years, and Im about halfway into LuV. It's nice to have such a long running world to come back to, it's like a second home.

I gave Better MC a good more recently, and that was pretty fun, but in the end I think it was a little too overwhelming for me.

For now I just play Tears of the Kingdom, hah! But I'd love to find another well-curated, well-planned modpack experience.

that said, i would totally recommend create: astral if you want a more updated version, it follows a very similar progression as above and beyond but a bit more streamlined i feel

FYI, I just released version 0.0.7 for that pack. It is a beta and missing some things. Keep an eye out for the .8 release which should be a full release.

I've been playing Minecraft since about 1.0, and I used to play modded a fair bit back in the day. My favorite modpacks are the tech-focused ones like Tekkit - I love automating and programming stuff. I also enjoy packs with additions for exploration and decoration.

However, I haven't found any modern modpacks that interest me. I've tried a few, but a lot of modpacks seem to be way too large in their scope - I don't want to have to deal with ten different types of copper ingots.

As such, I've been playing vanilla these days. I'm going to keep an eye on this thread though - I'd love to try and get back into modded Minecraft with a modern modpack that won't fry my computer.

Dealing with 10 diffirent types of copper is no longer the norm for large packs. Good unification is the standard these days and we even have a mod that does it more or less automatically.

I've played Minecraft since beta 1.5 and went into modding with Risugami's Modloader. Tekkit Classic was the first real modpack I played and made vanilla unplayable for me. I've played custom modpacks and hosted servers with friends in the past. We stick to tech and build packs so we float between 1.7.10 and 1.12.2 (with a bit of 1.16.5).

I'm currently going through nomifactory-ceu (not recommended for anyone new to modding) which is the first Gregtech-adjacent modpack I've played. Normally I try to balance function and form by distributing industry around the town where individual buildings and complexes revolve around one function, but it's very challenging in nomifactory since every item I want seem to naturally form into assembly lines.

I also have my own custom build pack and world if I don't feel like grinding, but it's been a while since I've fired it up. I usually play other games nowadays.

I too hated myself enough to have picked up Omnifactory 2 years ago, and have since switched to Nomi. Every time I set out to create a new world, I tell myself that I'm going to make this one look nice and neat, I'm going to build in the city, using and restoring the buildings around me, but by the time I lose interest in that playthrough, I've demolished my surroundings and am building my lines out in the open.

I haven’t played for a while, but I miss the days before there was a standard energy system. It was a lot of fun figuring out strange ways to get mods to interact through item and fluid outputs and inputs, like feeding Thaumcraft Alumentum to Railcraft boilers to get steam, then pumping that fluid into a reactor turbine.

Oh yeah I've recently gotten back into minecraft.

I've been doing a vanilla+ playthrough with my little brother.

I love create but it seems too time investive and complicated for him, plus I wanted to use 1.20.

So for automation I'm now using:
Carpet: autocrafting by making crafting tables tile entities, moveable tile entities, etc.
Omnihoppers: hoppers that transfer in any direction
Linkart: use chains on minecarts to make trains and trains will chunk load.
Highspeed Railway: placing copper and iron blocks under powered rails increases minecart max speed to 40bps and 78bps respectively (boosted rails don't work with trains unfortunately, they break apart)

This allows a lot of automation without any new systems that change vanilla gameplay much, and all mods but omnihoppers can be safely removed and added again since they don't add new items.

When create presumably gets updated to 1.20 I'll definitely add it though.

I used to like using immersive portals, it's just amazing and you can do so many cool things with it but it's got an incompatibility list a mile long and the incompatibilities almost feel random.

I was an alpha player and beta 1.7 was the best release. I have the strongest attachment to Better Than Wolves, IC2, BuildCraft, Forestry, and Thaumcraft. With modpacks I eventually became a very satisfied FTB user, but most recently I tried a more minimal modding experience with Fabric, and a handful of small open source mods I liked.

That went pretty great (anyone nostalgic for Forge outside of polished modpacks is crazy) but I think there was some sort of drama with curseforge not long after, so I'm not sure what the status of things is. Hopefully multimc is functional and I can get into modding again.

The Prism launcher supports searching for, and installing from FTB still. At least in the version I have, 6.3. https://prismlauncher.org/

I know they have also been contacted by the FTB team and have been asked to remove that functionality, but it is there for now.

Prism is a spin-off from MultiMC after some internal differences of opinions I believe, and looks pretty much exactly as MMC.

I have a potato laptop that needs to run as little background programs as possible to run modded, and I love modded minecraft. The Overwold app that runs in the background of both the Curseforge app and the official FTB launcher app makes it slow down so much :(

While I do love modded minecraft, I am horribly bad at the technical aspects of setting up automation and all of that. As long as I still have fun, I am okay with never getting very far. I have tried going back to vanilla Minecraft, but I just can't get into it.

I also don't like how they changed iron to spawn more frequently in higher elevations instead of lower now, and I prefer modpacks that have resource generation that removes the need to go hunting for iron.

I have tried my hand at TerraFirmaCraft modpacks, but hoo boy... Beautiful mod! So punishing though!
