Why would you assume this port will be horrible? The switch has enough power to match a 360 game and enable its users to play an older game portably, which is its main draw. I'd assume it will be...

Sure it'll be adequate. "Adequate" isn't enough to justify a $50 price tag. Considering you can already play Red Dead on XBOX series for $8 with backwards compatibility, there is almost no draw here.

I guess I separate the quality of a port with its price, as the latter is bound to go lower in the future, but I understand that argument. As for me, I can not install Xbox backwards compatibility...

As for me, I can not install Xbox backwards compatibility on my Nintendo, so I'll wait for a sale sometimes. In all the years that game has been out, I've never played it. I can wait a bit longer.
Rockstar's track record with porting older games to newer consoles is pretty awful. For example, the GTA trilogy somehow managees to get worse with each new re-release.

I should've clarified this would be a sub-par port for current gen consoles barring the switch. They ported it for the switch and were most likely like "eh, we could sell this on other consoles too". I was looking for a reason to play this game again and was anticipating a PS5 port that incorporated some modern functionality like 60 fps. I wouldn't of even commented originally if this was only a switch release. My gripe is that they did the work for a port and didn't do anything extra for the PS5, just a random release for PS4.
Like, no PC? Can't watch the video yet but the comments under it seem equally depressed by that. Maybe the Switch version will emulate well? Edit: Yep, no PC, Steam, or even Epic logos at the end...

I'm hopeful it will emulate it well. I've seen a lot of doom and gloom about that because of how the GTA ports went, but I think it's generally accepted that the problems with those came from Grove St, who apparently isn't involved in this, trying and failing to remaster it, whereas this is just a straight port. The Switch has far more than enough power to run a 360 game, so unless they really butcher it I have to imagine it'll run okay.
It's a real shame since I've played RDR2 most on my Steam Deck over anything else. I just expected they'd do a PC version as well so I wouldn't need to have my 360...

The best thing that I saw was using the RDR2 PC engine to play RDR assets taken from the Xbox 360... Until the project was locked down with CnD. I think a legal case should have been raised...

I think a legal case should have been raised against it though because the project itself required that the user had both the PC game and the Xbox 360 disc.
As someone who 100% the game on PS3 originally, and never played Undead Nightmare, I feel I am maybe the only person excited for this release. I don't have an Xbox, so the game pass excuse doesn't...

I don't have an Xbox, so the game pass excuse doesn't apply to me; I no longer have my PS3 or the game for it; and there's not really a good emulation solution to play this game. I played it at 30fps originally and wasn't bothered by it, can't imagine why I would be now. Hell, I'd be surprised if most PS4 titles ran at 60fps, I doubt they did.
I'm fine paying $50 for the game, it was probably $60 originally and was worth every cent. Just because it's older doesn't mean it isn't a content rich game. The value to me personally has not diminished.
My only reservation about it is how well it will perform. We all remember how the GTA Trilogy remaster was. If the game runs great on switch and has the same fidelity as the PS4 version I'll definitely be getting it on switch. If the switch port is worse than the PS4 port, I'll get it there.
This package has been selling for $10-20 for the past decade. I bought it for $10 on the PlayStation Store back in 2016. The MSRP of this package has been naturally lower for a long time. This...

This sudden jump back to $50 strikes me as a cynical realization that they can simply reset the naturally degrading value of entertainment media with an effortless re-release, and there will be people who will gladly accept that. And then it can (and likely will) be normalized all because there are people with enough disposable income who will show that there is a market for double dipping.
While people are free to pay what they want for whatever they want, this strikes me the same as when companies decide design their games to target for whales, and therefore big paydays, instead of seeking to genuinely provide a good value or experience for consumers.
On top of it all, this might actually be the single laziest port job of an older title ever, and that includes the failed attempts like the GTA Trilogy. It's ingenious if they get away with this, and depressing that there are so many people who will let them.

And in 4k with better texture filtering and no framerate dips (also plays this way on Xbox One X, just not the original Xbox One).

They're beating the dead horse until it gets back up.
So, Undead Nightmare is the most appropriate pack-in ever?

To this point it handled Skyrim pretty well, I don't see RD being a problem for the Switch

So, I imagine PC emulation will remain the best way to play the game.

I don’t think I will be paying $50 for this game… maybe 25 when it goes on sale

I haven't done it myself, but plenty of people online are claiming to have emulated it well. Just a thought!
I tried and it runs somewhere between good and okay depending on what you're doing in game. Visually it's pretty unappealing.
This is fantastic news for me. My PS3 bricked after an update and this was the only thing I missed about losing it.

The level of snark in the comments is making my day, I love it.
