As a massive, massive fan of the original two, I'm pretty okay with this. I didn't have much faith that the remake would be A) particularly faithful to the mechanics of the original or that it would B) make pretty sweeping story changes in order to service some deeper plan in the star wars universe, which just isn't needed.
The originals are great and still playable for reasons besides nostalgia but the mechanics are fairly dated by now so people going into them without rosy glasses should be aware of that.

What, did they try to just reuse the voice files and Embracer got cold feet when they realized it would actually cost them money?

I'm not sure this holds water. You can't copyright the function the code performs, only the actual code as you wrote it -- this is well-established and why reverse-engineered emulators are legal....
I'm not sure this holds water. You can't copyright the function the code performs, only the actual code as you wrote it -- this is well-established and why reverse-engineered emulators are legal. The game studio could easily write their own code to do the same task and the mod authord wouldn't have any copyright claim. And tbh even if they did have some claim, I think it's rather unlikely that they'd exercise it to an extent that the whole DLC would be called off for it.
It seems far more likely that someone with legal rights to the content itself that would be added to the game opposed the move. They would have a lot more power to prevent the release of the DLC than modders would because in addition to whatever copyright they hold over the content, they were probably in some sort of contractual relationship with the developers back in the day and that contract may have terms that interfere with the new studio's ability to just use the content since it wasn't in the original game.

A class action complaint over a Star Wars video game's missing content should be dismissed in part because the lead plaintiff already got a rebate, the game's developer has argued in court.
Supposedly they were going to update the mechanics to the modern day and change the story a bit to make it fit into the new canon. At that point idk why they wouldn't just make a new game heavily...

Yeah, I don't know why Disney or the companies that are allowed to make Star War games has such a aversion to making things that involve the Old Republic, the MMO doesn't really count because that was made before Disney acquired the IP. Dispute the fact that before I had left the Star Wars community, that was what the community was asking for, more things that is set in the Old Republic era, that has nothing to do with the Skywalker family.
As someone who is very much not a part of the Star Wars fan community, the Skywalkers are, perhaps, the worst part of the universe. I’m sure they have their fans, but personally, I find them as...
As someone who is very much not a part of the Star Wars fan community, the Skywalkers are, perhaps, the worst part of the universe. I’m sure they have their fans, but personally, I find them as boring as can be, with the most white bread of personalities. Pretty much everyone else in the universe has much more charisma and an interesting backstory. I felt that Ray being told that she was not a Skywalker was a turn that made the sequel series much more interesting to me, because it gave her a lot more room to have an interesting personality of her own. It was really disappointing when they pulled that 180.
I’ve been told that Rogue One was a much more interesting movie because it features outside of that canon, but I haven’t got a chance to see it.

Luke is arguably the best Skywalker out there. Mostly because he came from a backwater planet (despite what Disney thinks) that was thrust into becoming a rebel and one of the more important people in the Rebel Alliance and becoming the last Jedi in the galaxy.
And there is Rey, who literally has the same backstory of Luke. The only difference is that Luke had built up his abilities over the course of the movies. While Ray was good at everything from the get go.
Spoilers for the last Star Wars movie
Rey became a Skywalker at the end of the movie, despite the fact that she was a daughter of one of Palpatine's clones, she literally forces herself into that family because why the hell not, everyone in that family is dead. And for me, Rey had the personality of dry wall (see above), even before then. She was really boring to watch because she had no growth as a character, and the one character that had an once of personality (and arguably the better backstory than Ray), was Finn, and they took that away and made that character the comedy relief sidekick of Rey. Also because of episode 8, the last movie had to scramble to get a story out there, mostly due to the fact that there was no planning for the trilogy.
Part of the reason that I don't like what Disney is doing with Star Wars is that, for them, if the story does not have any thing to do with the Skywalkers, there is no point in making it.
They've been expanding on the High Republic era recently (namely in Jedi Survivor) and honestly I'd absolutely love a KOTOR style game in that setting.

I’ve been playing the original on my Steam Deck of late, and I mostly concur. There are a few minor things they could add, like e.g. there’s a bunch of dialogue about swoop bike upgrades, but no one sells em, etc. The big one for me would be porting the Xbox controls to the Steam version, as it’s a bit of a pain to play on the Deck, and you can’t really remap your way out of not having a mouse. Probably not enough to justify my third or fourth purchase of the thing tho.

"Your praise is accepted, meatbag. When I finally get around to killing you, it will be marginally less painful than for everyone else."

Unfortunately I can only assume that. They didn't elaborate when they announced it.

Also fan of the original two. Not sure what a remake would bring to the table except arguably better graphics?. Cash grab anyone?
