Known to be a well received game.
This is a largely unknown franchise for kids nowadays, so there's a fresh addressable audience (particularly after Fox's appearance in the new Mario movie).
At the same time, as someone who played this to death on the N64, it's disappointing that it's not a new game. A whole new rail / open area space shooter done in the flashy visual style of Fox's introduction in the Mario movie would have been so cool!
If the rumours about the Ocarina of Time remake are true, I'll likely feel the same way about that too.

The FF7 remake was great (haven't played the new one yet), and I've wanted to try Ocarina of Time for some time now (and it's available on Switch) but I just might see how the shiny new version is.

I don't have any interest in a Starfox remake. When I was watching the video, I remembered most of the gameplay that was shown and I remembered that the game wasn't very fun to me. I liked it fine at the time, but for whatever reason I'm just not interested in how it controls and I'm not interested in those cut scenes or the banter. "COCKY LITTLE FREAK!".
I hadn't heard of a remake of Ocarina of Time though. That I would play and would hope that they mostly remaster it without adding a lot of new content so that it is a focused experience.
When I realized that it was a remake my heart sank a bit, I won’t lie, but I’ve been warming up to the game and some new elements that they’re introducing ever since. I also played the N64 entry...
When I realized that it was a remake my heart sank a bit, I won’t lie, but I’ve been warming up to the game and some new elements that they’re introducing ever since.
I also played the N64 entry to death, so this will be a nostalgia trip mostly, but hey... I want them to give me that open area space shooter someday, so I’ll vote with my wallet here and cross my fingers.
I’m also concerned about that Ocarina of Time remake now, but that one I would buy regardless. I really didn’t expect Star Fox to be a remake. That was a totally unexpected and mixed surprise.
I think a fourth point on that list would be the tempting price point of $49.99 digital. Were this game 59.99 or higher, then I would feel far less inclined to get it. I think they’re aware that this is a remake... although, they also sold the Super Mario Galaxies at 39.99 a pop or whatever that was, so who knows what they’re thinking?

lmfao, trying again, again? I don't get why Star Fox is so difficult for them. Don't make it into an action adventure game or the WiiU pad or other gimmicks. Just make a different Star Fox game,...

It's even funnier, because there were all sorts of cool ideas that were planned for 64 that they ran out of time to include (like most games).
So if you're going to do a remaster, why not say "and guess what, we're adding the REST of the content!"
I get it won't always be perfect but take a swing. When you look at classics like FFVI and hear that they're great because oops the game got an extra year of development, I don't see why someone hasn't decided "yeah we didn't know how to top that, so we just decided to go back and dive in with a ton more paths/endings/bosses/secrets"

After getting Metroid Dread and Metroid Prime 4 out, Nintendo does have the chops to make a new game in a series even after a decades-long gap. Weirdly enough they decided to play it safe this time.
you would not believe (you probably could) how often people at summer camps, classes, etc would end up just calling me starfox, star, or fox everywhere I went in the early to mid 2000s, the moat...

This is the second time they've done a one-to-one remake of Star Fox, and the fourth time they've effectively retold the original SNES game. No new content aside from extended scripted pre-mission cutscenes which are likely longer than the stages themselves, plus challenge missions which finally add some form of stage select to the game. And what is up with the new more realistic designs?
Don't get me wrong, the game looks decent graphically, but I think Star Fox deserves a lot better than another graphical upgrade to its N64 release.
I also don't understand why they're giving us Star Fox avatars for Switch 2's voice chat mode. All of this face rigging technology feels like a waste on a voice chat app that is both locked behind an online paywall and operates at single digit framerates at the best of times. Nintendo should've instead used that tech to make some Live2D fursona maker and make absolute bank from the furry community.
Yeah, it's moves like this and the awful overworld in Prime 4 that make me wonder how committed Nintendo is to making good with their B and C tier franchises. Both examples are safe bets on lazy...

Both examples are safe bets on lazy industry conventions of the day and it runs counter to their reputation for creating excellent, fun, original titles.
We'll see how she plays, but if it fails, I wouldn't blame the consumer this time, Nintendo. This one is on you.
This is basically a simple version of that but with Nintendo IP, no? Tomodachi Life is already doing numbers with furries. Especially in Japan, vtubers are huge, so this seems like an easy include...

I’d kinda be a little curious in those particular circles if these Star Fox designs are too uncanny valley in a fashion. Fox in particular gives me looks a little too much like Ugly Sonic for me...

Normally with Nintendo Directs, they like to give a little bit of a heads up, like a day or two. Today, though, they announced it mere minutes before going live.

Seems that’s their new strategy for their B and C tier franchises: Shadow drop the announcement. Launch the next month. Keep the hype train running hot and fast.

Obviously they're making an entire SF64 remake so the future Arwings stuck in the OoT Remake code are authentic.
This had me go lol. Thanks for that.

"Star Fox 64 is the Skyrim of Nintendo"
You would talk it up like that wouldn't you, FOX Macleod

Were you secretly sad they weren't making Highlander references or were you happier than a pig in plop? ;)
Apparently there can be more than one.
Kid Icarus: Uprising was a fantastic on-rails shooter! Sakurai is chained to Smash Bros though.
I wonder if they'll unlock his shackles now after Ultimate. He seemed pretty done.
Wow. Didn’t expect to find this comment here, but yes, we need a Kid Icarus: Uprising remake (or sequel) much more than this Star Fox 64 remake.
I'm actually pretty disappointed.
