The server operates on a soft whitelist. Anyone can log in and walk around, but you need a Tildes account to gain build access.
We recommend you install our mod web-chat so that you can chat while in your web browser. It turns the server into an old-school chat room.
You should host an event, like hide and seek or a PvP thing in the city.
Similar vibes here. I'd love to finish the Horizon Engine and have a bunch of people explore it, but its probably gonna take at least 8-12 more months I'd guess before I'm done. At least with my build I can continue working on it in creative and then quickly rebuild it in a new season when there's more server activity. I certainly enjoy checking in on your progress though TSP. Maybe I should abandon my project temporarily and help you finish your vision of Poland in the free time I do have. Then if you end up rejoining next season (I know you've been doubting it, so no pressure, but also a teeny bit of pressure cause you'd be missed) you could help me rebuild the horizon engine if you don't want to play as much.
I will definitely have to stop by and check it out soon...
To be completely honest, I was really excited to play Minecraft again when the server last came back online, but after like two days of seeing other people's builds I started feeling like an absolute moron and lost my desire to play. It's like I'm not even playing the same game as everyone else, and it doesn't make me feel particularly good.
I'm still a big fan of our little server and what you guys have all created. It just got too hard to participate myself in game with frequent deaths and the quite bad motion sickness nausea. :) browsing the Bluemap is still fun
I've started work on a tiny, unremarkable base right near the behemoths of Tildes Town. The beauty of a sandbox is the freedom to do everything and nothing. You can make a giant rocket or a simple footprint in the sand and be Neil Armstrong for all eternity.
I have heard this before from people and seeing impressive builds sure can be intimidating. However, people creating these awesome builds had to start from somewhere and often already spend many more hours in game than you did.
It is the same as any creative endeavour, it takes a lot of practice to get at a certain level. Nobody is "just good", some people might have a little bit more eye for detail than others but that is something completely different.
Building can also be a very iterative process, at least for me. Where you start out without a clear idea or just a rough idea and slowly rework it to see if you can reach it. For example, for the first weeks or so my house was just four walls, basically a squire/rectangle box. I didn't like it but was entirely sure what direction to take it. Then I decided to cut out a corner and add some detailing which gave me inspiration to continue working on it. But even then it took me a while to figure out what direction to take it. I think I initially didn't even plan for a third floor, but at some point decided I wanted a happy ghast and a place to park it. In a similar sense I at some point figured that since my house is at the edge of town I might try adding a gate. Most details around my house are the result of months of tinkering with it.
Hamsters castle is a good example as well. If I remember correctly it started with just a tower and the compound around it including the other town gate just slowly appeared over time.
The fun thing about playing on a server like this is that you can actually walk around and look for inspiration. See how other people have done stuff in detail and borrow certain elements in your own builds.
And there is no requirement for it to be grand and awe inspiring, there are plenty of people who have build smaller simple builds and homes. If you look at bluemap, certainly in town you will also see simpler homes. And again, most of the fancy ones didn't start out being that fancy either.
As long as you are having fun nobody is going to judge you for the quality of your builds. I'd honestly invite you to pick one of the plots still available and give it a go.
Finally, even though people build a lot of creative stuff this isn't a creative server. There have also been people who decided to just head of in unexplored directions and build up everything from scratch. Which is also a very valid play style.
You are not the first person to express this sentiment. I know in talking with others on this server, we have felt that being on this server has pushed us to build better, and that our best builds have been on the server. For me, there has been a few things I have done on this server to help me build better:
Lastly, I want to encourage you that those of us on the server are just happy to see the world filled out more, and do not care about the builds themselves
Echoing creesch and TSP, definitely don't feel intimidated by other builds. Everyone starts out with more or less the same skill at this game, its just a matter of putting time into whatever project you build. Even a small stone shack can become impressive if you just keep chipping away at it and adding more and more details. Reference images are also a great way to learn how to build in my opinion, just find something you like and try to replicate it with blocks.
One other thing to keep in mind is that for my city, I've been building everything twice because its a lot easier to do these complicated designs in creative with the Axiom mod and then use the Litematica mod to recreate it on the server. I'd never be able to achieve the results I have so far otherwise, and these aren't necessarily beginner friendly mods. But just like everyone else, I start with a dirt hut at the beginning of the season and work towards something better, it just so happens that I have more free time than most (until recently that is).
Edit: Oh and also, never be afraid to ask for help or advice on a build, sometimes a fresh set of eyes can help with a problem or spark inspiration on what you want to do next.
I'm sorry I haven't been over to see it in person. I haven't really explored much yet, and I admittedly still don't know my way around the server.
I did show it off to some people on the BlueMap, though. That design aesthetic appeals to some friends of mine, and they were excited by the build.
At some point, it would be nice to do a server tour event. Have a fly around and see everybody's bases. I'm sure there's lots out there I haven't seen yet.
Any chance we could see some screenshots? It's both a way to entice people and also a kind of personal record for your progress.
That's more massive than I expected!
I have always felt that the server has periods of higher and lower activity, but I do agree that the current period of inactivity has felt a bit more discouraging than other periods. It has been cool reading the child comments of this to see how many people have been lurking on us via bluemap, but now it is making me consider trying to optimize my progress for bluemap, which does not align with my projects this season
I need to try and log in again. I think I've resigned myself to the fact that the creative spirit just isn't there for me this time around, just not getting the itch to build at the moment, but I would still like to see everyone else's builds. You all are super creative and it's always really cool to see the amazing things everyone builds.
I definitely understand your feeling. If it makes you feel any better, I, at least, check in every couple days on your and @GravySleeve 's builds on Bluemap, but I'll try to stop by again when I get back home. I know Egypt will continue to coalesce, but I support you in whatever you choose to do!
And all art is ephemeral, that's part of what makes it beautiful.
I do play less but, for what it is worth, when I do get online I make it a point to check out Poland. I also do check things from bluemap on a regular basis.
Having said that, I totally get where your feeling comes from. Ironically one of the reasons I am probably also playing less is because there has been little activity for a while now. It's not the only reason, but it certainly does play a role.
Not sure what to do about it. Having some events certainly could help, the pvp event was a lot of fun but we could also do other stuff maybe.
Hey i check every week on bluemap too, just wanted to let you know :) i scroll past everyone's builds and marvel, but I've definitely seen the massive awe that is becoming Poland 😱❤️
P.s. my fav is the shipyard, I love the cranes so much
I went to the museum this morning so I think I'm gonna hop on for a while to do a map art sometime in the next week, I'll be excited to see what progress you've made!
I would be excited for more map art on the server. I have a lounge in the upper floor of comm. storage that would benefit with more 2x1 paintings, but the game only has 4, so I considered doing some map art but have not gotten around to it yet
Ooh I like seeing cities in Minecraft. My friends and I liked to build cities back in the day.
If I wanted to see it, how do I get to it? haven't signed-in to Tildes Minecraft since Day 1 😔
Well, the obvious answer is that this is the time to sign back into minecraft ;) But, on bluemap you can also see it
I share one of those three stats displayed with you
Anybody see the new snapshot? Were finally getting a vanilla way to sit with cushions! Between the recent shelves and these new cushions, it seems mojang is really focusing on making sure they keep builders in mind when adding new blocks.
Going on vacation so won't be able to log on to the server until early August.
Mob griefing is turned off on the server, so even if it did explode blocks would not break
If you're interested in a hacked-together version, I modified the small iron farm just west of town to do that, and used glass to allow visibility where I could. I'd definitely rework the "design" for your own use if you can - I was working with some space constraints.
I solved this in the industrial district's iron farm, although it is buried underground so hard to see without free cam. For the two different item inputs, honestly having two hopper filters is just as easy as a golem filter system
I actually had to go in and tinker with that at one point - it got choked somehow, and needed mucking out. Was this work you did roughly when it was built? If so, my revision was after, and mostly adding access for mucking the pipes and a simple filter for undesired materials going into the crafter.
I did the modifications to the farm probably two months ago when I converted the industrial district to have all the farms output to the same location. I am unsure if after my changes if it still handles other item inputs going by mistake, but the farm is pretty closed off that I doubt that would be an issue now
I thought so at home, too, but I kept getting string in my sorter until I had an appropriate number of tamed cats (5) parked in the vicinity - kept them from spawning in with the golems and immediately dying to lava blade, but it took me a while to figure out what was even happening. Is that covered?
I think so considering that the industrial district has tons of cats scattered about. It would be pretty easy to add in a chest for all the junk items to filter into though
The trick is to not completely empty the sorting chests, by locking the outbound hoppers below a certain (non-zero) signal threshold. I have a less compact version running stably in my base which might be easier to examine, but it's a bit of a hike - northern nether rail line all the way to the terminus, if you feel like exploring.
I found it helpful to think of the remnant kept as a priming cost rather than an ongoing inefficiency.
If you're in the market for new input methods, I've played Minecraft for years on a trackball like https://www.logitech.com/en-us/shop/p/ergo-m575s-wireless-trackball
The latency is not as good as a similarly-priced gaming mouse, but the benefit of traditional click buttons and scroll wheel are worth the tradeoff to me. There are cheaper and more expensive options, so maybe there exists some better value or low latency option.
That railway project would be me. We built the transit hub underneath community storage just north of you. I felt that a southern line would be a nice addition, so have been working on that recently
Edit: I have added the details to the rail bridge in your area, so that if you visit anytime soon it is not just a floating bridge
Have you tried physical therapy? I injured my wrists with a Steam Deck and PT fixed them up really quickly.
So I have completed a southern bound rail line. It currently has four stops:
I still need to add the supports for the bridges for the lines past town junction station, but I may not complete that for a while.I have finished this. The southern end station could use some decorating, but I currently do not have any ideas for that one@creesch for bluemap it has a few different height changes, so the best way to add it would be to have you ride it with your coords logging mod.
Ha, the praise for the house/area makes me feel kind of guilty for disappearing.
When I was building the sulfur farm, I travelled via boat up the rivers to comm. storage, and I quite enjoyed seeing your house peeking over the trees. Your build style fits really well for that area, it is a fun vibe
One thing I have always wanted as part of the hotel facade of community storage is to fill the various hotel rooms full of easter eggs. I have since added hallways to access the rooms on the southern end, with the hallway entrance being on the second floor (up the water elevators near the bulk storage section, then go up the stairs to the quartz dome, then go through the entrance on the right). If you want and have ideas, feel free to take over and redecorate a hotel room or several. The one thing I would encourage is to try and not go overboard with armour stands, to prevent the area from being too laggy if several people spam a hundred armour stands into their respective rooms.
Edit: I have been informed that if you lock the armour stands, they have very minimal performance impact
