I'm not sore about Turtle WoW, I knew it was only a matter of time from the day I started on it, but it was better than the micro transaction laden, pay to win slop that WoW has been for ages now.

The only thing for sale so far is the new blue elves, but that's not that dissimilar from buying an xpac. Cheaper too. Much cheaper if you have no interest in them.

There'll be a sweaty playerbase, but there's also an RP realm which will probably be a lot more chill.

My interest is piqued; I've been playing WoW off and on for 22 years now via legitimate and illegitimate means and I still want to play it; it's just I've had much better experiences on private servers in the last ten years than anything Blizz has done.

That said, Forever is hitting all the items that are important to me. Like a thousand new low level quests, option for standard or enhances graphics, options for transmog or to turn it off (which I will because I want to see the clown suits). The camping, which they obviously stole from TWoW, is a great way for players to bond. The devs have so far held the line on shared tagging, and how players should talk and group up instead.

And blue elf controversy aside, being able to pay just the sub and nothing else is a good value even by the standards of 2008.

Completely ready to eat my words on November, of course! But I think at the very least you should read the features and stuff, because it's probably right up your alley (if they don't change their mind and then add the damn token again).

My friends have been all excited about it for the past day or so and been sending me stuff, as I'm the resident WoWhead.

They ended up buying it, but I've just joined the opt in to see if I can try out the beta with them. I am a patient man and my lack of trust in Blizzard and Microsoft doesn't have me chomping at the bit to throw money at them and beta their product.

We'll see. I remain skeptical and I'll keep playing other games until the opportunity comes along to try it with minimal investment.

I'm particularly keen on seeing of they take the story somewhere else. Already Dalaran is going to open while still in its original location, so that's already a huge change.

Yup, the macca keys! I'm in NZ, so I would probably be able to get it! I don't actually want beta access, because I want to play my main already 🤣

The last few years I've been playing in so many pServers that I'm used to a character being very far from permanent, so this beta is just a different pServer for me, hehe.

It's a key from the MyMaccas app which costs 1000 points. From what I know that's 10$ AUS, so you can just give your friend some money, they can buy something (maybe not even for themselves),...

If Blizzard doesn't change their approach to Forever it'll go the same route.

    * - I did actually play Mists of Pandaria but realised the levelling "experience" was not really there to be played since you were practically invunerable and it really only existed to get you to end game content as fast as possible.... which I didn't have the time or social battery to dedicate to so I gave it a miss again.

That’s the thing I missed. I loved early classic, exploring, chatting. Now I feel like this could be that, but you also have new things to explore

I'm not sure I understand how they're planning to keep it alive and active any longer than their usual runs of Classic. Since the level cap is forever locked at 60, is the plan to just keep releasing new dungeons and raids that give marginally better gear, or even the same level of gear? Will they keep releasing new zones until the map is as cluttered as in Retail, but somehow manage to have them all stay concurrently relevant forever instead of being allowed to move on from them like when a Retail expansion ends?

To answer the gear question, the plan is horizontal progression. Gear that might be better for certain scenarios, but not a straight upgrade. The way OSRS does it, and even GW2. Can it work? I'm...

Can it work? I'm not sure. WoW isn't OSRS. But that's the goal.

Too bad, honestly. I've been playing Vanilla WoW for decades now, only officially quitting when Cataclysm came out and they wiped the original world.

I love the original world and even after 22 years, I still find new things here and there, as well as I find new ways to play in it. If they just added some stuff and left it in stasis, I'd be pretty happy. I just enjoy leveling characters, going though the world, making money, doing dungeons with my friends, etc. I don't even need a drip feed of new content.
