I still haven't finished part 2 due to my current schedule… can't wait, having seen the beginning it seems like they're really starting to pick up on the game rules.
Thanks for posting these. I hadn't played Baba is You until I saw this thread and started playing along. It's a lot of fun to see how they tackle the puzzles.

Also, I was much more impressed with Mark in this video than I was in the previous ones. He finally seems to understand the mechanics now (being sober this time prob helped), and he even managed to solve two of the puzzles pretty much by himself this time too, which was awesome to see.

Mark's solutions are usually a lot more intuitively understandable for me, but I think that's also why I enjoy watching Simon's solves a tiny bit more, because his thought process is so different than mine. And it also helps that he is remarkably good at explaining himself too, so I tend to get a lot more "Aha!" moments watching Simon than I do with Mark.

Their individual epiphanies are just … coming really fast one after the other.
And they get hilariously stuck on really weird shit.
“Does anyone know how big this game is?” “We could be streaming this for a few hours” - yeah you fucking could. At most.

I watched the VODs of The Witness and quite enjoyed them. Simon has a way of just being amazing by clever things in a way that is really heartwarming. Add in the interesting combination of "genius puzzle solver" and "older person who doesn't quite get video games" and the series was quite enjoyable. Sometimes he was solving complex puzzles before I could even wrap my head around the rules - while others he was missing something that anyone with video game instincts would pick up very quickly.
Would highly recommend watching him play The Witness...though i will admit to putting it on at 2x speed to save time, as it is several hours long.

Someone in here questioned whether their Sudoku genius would even translate to Baba logic. Well, they just solved Tiny Pond in like 5 minutes, without even really getting stuck. That's absolutely mind-blowing. This level took me hours. I came back to it over and over again after having already solved much of the rest of the game, it seemed impossible. Don't even know what it was that was so difficult, now it seems easy, lol.
EDIT: I guess I meant a harder version of this called Tiny Isle. Curious how fast they'll do that one, I have no idea how I solved this, lol.

I thought I "finished" Baba Is You. Then I realized, I just found the "first" ending. I've now tripled my play time since that, finding more and more meta levels and I guess I'm stuck again. IMO Baba is much harder than The Witness. I'm curious if I finally see Simon being truly "stuck". But who am I kidding, he'll make me feel stupid by blasting through what took me 20 hours in 3.
I dunno. Simon strikes me, at least WRT sudokus, as being pretty "overfitted" to sudoku rules. He's good at spotting the right angle once he's very familiar with the rules. But if you show him...
I dunno. Simon strikes me, at least WRT sudokus, as being pretty "overfitted" to sudoku rules. He's good at spotting the right angle once he's very familiar with the rules. But if you show him rules that are way outside of what he expects, he's no better than the rest of us. I feel Baba Is You could seriously challenge him.
This is a great game! I might get back into it, but I got stuck on some conveyor belt level that seemed overly fiddly to me when I prefer more of the "lateral thinking" type puzzles. Pleased that...

Pleased that he got stuck on the same crab level that I did, haha. That was also my first "I'll come back to it later" level.

I think it's extremely interesting watching which levels teach you what. There's very specific assumptions the first 30 or so levels are here to break.
For example, teaching you how open/shut works, teaching you how controlling large amounts of entities works, teaching you to use baba is win, etc.
There's less filler than i think you think there is.
Given how Mark and Simon have been stuck on every level so far, it appears they aren't successfully generalizing the rules to the degree that any of them count as filler.

I think this is a fantastic example of certain types of logical thought. Simon has regularly discarded valid solutions without explaining why, because he's started to build a mental ruleset for the puzzle that's too constrained. But within Sudoku, where he has those rules really well internalized he just blazes through all but the most challenging. He's so, so good at using a ruleset he already has fleshed out, but only middling at developing a new one on the fly.
This game is crazy, you learn it's vocabulary, but a lot of the solutions are about understanding it's mechanics and thinking outside the box. But it's also a sokoban game which seems to be...

Yeah, I tuned in just as they were working on Double Moat, and their solution was absolutely inspired.

Yeah, my way of thinking is much closer to Mark's. I noticed it in his Sudoku solves too.

New stream tonight.

It's started. And they seem to have fixed all their technical issues. Both sound good, and both are also on Cam now too.

They blew through tiny isle as well.

After lots of streaming sound issues, the stream has started so I'm reposting this.
I'm genuinely excited. Baba is You is a fantastic game and exactly within his skillset IMO.
Previously, The Witness: https://tildes.net/~games/y44/simon_plays_the_witness
It's a great game that I ragequit ages ago because it absolutely broke my brain.
I should give it another go...
I thought I "finished" Baba Is You. Then I realized, I just found the "first" ending. I've now tripled my play time since that, finding more and more meta levels and I guess I'm stuck again. The game is barely starting and I think the levels are already harder. This game is pretty brutal.
I dunno. Simon strikes me, at least WRT sudokus, as being pretty "overfitted" to sudoku rules. He's good at spotting the right angle once he's very familiar with the rules. Yeah IMO a lot of the levels are filler. I would have preferred a smaller number of levels with each one employing a new lateral thinking technique.
I think it's extremely interesting watching which levels teach you what. There's very specific assumptions the first 30 or so levels are here to break.

Yeah! It's so interesting how this game is giving them a run for their money.

I'm really liking this game's humor. It's really unique. Mark's laugh is great when he realizes what's going on.
Edit: The poem was 👌.
It's back.

IMO it might be worth making a new topic once it comes out. This one is over a month old now, and not everyone uses sort by Activity - All time.
