I'll definitely be checking that out; I haven't heard of it and it looks funny. There's also Leave No Trace which I really liked (but it's decidedly not funny.)

I skimmed the article, I didn't see the Father's justification for taking them in the first place. Anyone know the context? It said he didn't have custody of the children so I guess that must play...

Checking out the wikipedia article on the disappearances, it doesn't seem like we really have any sort of public statement from him that can give more light to his specific motives, other than what can be guessed from the fact that he and his wife were separated and he kidnapped the children. He apparently kidnapped the kids for three weeks back in 2021 before the proper kidnapping, and when he returned he claimed he'd "taken them on a camping trip in dense bush in an effort to clear his head." So who knows what his explanation would be for the current multiple years in the bush. I suspect his head is not particularly clear.
Sorry for taking this lightly, but as a Father with two kids around the ages of his three: Damn this dude is brave. I'm a stay at home parent and just having the two with me during Summer break is...

Damn this dude is brave. I'm a stay at home parent and just having the two with me during Summer break is exhausting; I can't imagine trying to cart my two around rugged wilderness for three years. He may deserve a medal.
...I'm not exactly sure it's a good idea to describe a man kidnapping children and cutting them off entirely from society for years as "deserving a medal". I think his standards for his children...

It's a flippant comment, I acknowledge. Made late at night, after my kids had been in bed for an hour; I'm just a Dad who's continually exhausted and can't imagine trying to cart just my two...
It's a flippant comment, I acknowledge. Made late at night, after my kids had been in bed for an hour; I'm just a Dad who's continually exhausted and can't imagine trying to cart just my two around, going for a walk in my neighborhood. The whining and complaining is just exhausting, so to be able to do something like this, never having a break without losing my damn mind seems impressive.

The fact that the challenge here is high can only imply sad things done to, or denied, the children.
Hey I have two gremlins of my own, I get it. But something tells me you're a much better parent to your kids than this guy is to his. I can't imagine a scenario where kids get whisked off to the...

This man is selfish, not brave. His kids aren't in school, don't have stable accommodation, probably haven't had adequate medical care in those 3 years, and are completely cut off from their...

This is wild! I'm assuming folks have seen Hunt for the Wilderpeople here and it sounds like he had some inspiration.
The great film hunt for the Wilder people is also based on a book, Wild Pork and Watercress by Barry crump.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople is great. I think it's probably my favorite Taika Waititi movie (maybe tied with What We Do in the Shadows).

Hey, I hope you can find some time to take a break, even a short one. It's ok to ask for help, and I hope you have a support system!
